Deputy Chief Troy Stantliff Honored For 50 Years Of Service Photo & Stories By Kevin Stantliff, Special To The Star SUMMERFIELD – On December 2nd at the annual Family Christmas Dinner, the Summerfield Fire Department met in the fire station to honor those who had served at the department. On behalf of the department, Summerfield Fire Chief Chris Johnson honored Troy Stantliff, Jr. for his 50 years of dedication and service in the fire district. He was also honored by the board of directors as well as his family for his commitment. During the event, Chief Johnson announced the training facility at Station 9 would be named after Troy for all of his years of hard work. During the ceremony, the Stantliffs were shown the plaque that would be hanging in the training area and were also presented with a special painting from the department. Troy joined the fire department on January 28th, 1964, following in his father’s footsteps. After returning from his time in the Army during Vietnam, Troy was then made training captain. He would then go on to become assistant chief at Station 9 and now serves as the deputy chief. When he joined in Summerfield, the department consisted of one fire station with only three trucks, which were housed in a small building across the street from the current fire station. Today, the Summerfield Fire District consists of three stations and 13 plus pieces of modern equipment. Troy has also served as a board of directors member for over 36 years, 33 of which have been as president of the board. He and the other dedicated members of the community have helped build a fire department over the years that is a cornerstone of the community. Not only do they strive to protect life and property but also to provide education at local schools and other services. When asked how he felt about serving Summerfield all these years Troy said he was glad to be there for his neighbors. “The main satisfaction I’ve taken from all these years of service is that I’ve hopefully impacted people’s lives positively in a time of need,” he said. The community thanks Troy for his half century of service of saving lives and helping out others in Summerfield. ::
