By The Star SUMMERFIELD - A Summerfield land dispute between two neighbors has now made front page news in the Greensboro News & Record daily newspaper and has also been run by the Winston-Salem Journal online. The paper recently ran a story titled “Court Approves Of Fence, But Would Robert Frost?” written by reporter Robert C. Lopez. In the article, Lopez details the disputes between neighbors Rich Lipinski and Stuart Smith. Recently, the government of the Town of Summerfield became involved when Lipinski erected an ugly fence that was made of tarps and told

Lipinski that he had to take them down as it violated zoning rules. However, the NC Court of Appeals ruled his fence is legal, so he was allowed to keep them up. Lipinski, an attorney, said in the article that he put up the fence to block his view of his neighbor’s property. He alleged that he had to put up the fence after Smith built a dog pen, a chicken coop and made a woodpile and has outdoor lights on at night. During his recent unsuccessful run for Summerfield Town Council, Lipinski made the property dispute a campaign issue. At a Summerfield candidates forum, Lipinski said he hoped that no one in the audience had to go through what he had to go through with his neighbor, although he did not go into

detail at the meeting. Lipinski also said he would not have been in favor of recently approved plans for a shopping center on Highway 150 in Summerfield since it would affect neighbors in the area. He said if he was on the council, he would have voted against the shopping center plans. In the News & Record article, Lopez reported that Smith has also complained about Lipinski as a neighbor as well. Smith alleged that Lipinski put up pink flamingos, piled manure, and put trash along the property line. The dispute between the neighbors also involved the criminal courts as well. “The feud escalated to the point where Lipinski was arrested in 2012 on charges of pointing a gun at Smith,” said the News & Record article. “Lipinski denied the accusation, and the case was dismissed earlier this year.” The Town of Summerfield told the News & Record that after losing in court they were not sure if they would try to take further action against Lipinski regarding his fence. In addition to appearing on the front page of the News & Record, the article also appeared on the WinstonSalem Journal’s website. Both newspapers are now owned by Warren Buffet’s Berkeshire Hathaway media arm and frequently share stories both online and in print. The article is still online and can be read at the following URL: http://tinyurl.com/landdispute

Stokesdale Looks For New Town Council Member Replacement By The Star STOKESDALE - The Town of Stokesdale is looking for one good man or woman to take a place on the Stokesdale Town Council. When council member Randy Braswell was elected to the position of mayor in the last election, the need arose for the town council to appoint someone to take his council seat when he is sworn in as mayor in December. The Stokesdale council has not decided yet how they will choose the new council member, but those who are interested in filling the seat are encouraged to contact Town Clerk Carolyn Joyner to fill out an application. Statutorily speaking, the town council may legally select anyone by using pretty much any means, but they have not discussed any replacements yet in open session. The council is expected to discuss the selection at their December meeting. Whoever is appointed to the position would serve the remainder of Braswell’s term as council member for another two years. The Stokesdale Town Council is losing two experienced members as Randy Jones is stepping down as mayor and has also served as a council member for the past 22 years. Also, council member Mickie Holbrook is leaving the board after 10 years as service as well (see photos on page 8 of this newspaper issue. ::

STOKESDALE - One of Stokesdale’s most recognizable structures has a new owner. The red brick building on Highway 158 dates back to 1935 and has served as a local doctor’s office as well as a mortuary. One local resident joked that theoretically you could have been born there and prepared for burial there. The 4,000 square foot building is zoned commercial and was most recently the office for A New Dawn Realty before they moved over to the Stokesdale Business Center. According to a source close to the deal, the building was sold to Niko Anthony, Inc. who is advertising the building for lease as an office. The building sold for much less than it was valued at a few years ago and reputedly sold for only $125,000 in this sale. ::
