2016 HATTERS FOOTBALL COACHES Roger Hughes - Head Coach
in the history of Ivy League football to improve his team’s win total by two games in three consecutive seasons. In addition to his myriad responsibilities as head coach, Hughes serves as the Hatters’ Offensive Coordinator and works directly with the quarterbacks. Hughes and his wife, Laura, have one daughter, Maddison, who is a junior, and a member of the golf team at Doane University.
Jacob Behrns - Receivers
holds degrees from both the Arizona Culinary Institute and Wayne State, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management in 2014. He started his career as a student coach at Nebraska-Omaha while also working as the team video coordinator. Behrns and his wife, Jill, a Creighton University grad and registered nurse, reside in DeLand.
Nolan Behrns - Director of Ops
recruiting calendar. Behrns got his start in football as an undergrad at Nebraska-Omaha as a student assistant coach. He worked with the receivers and defensive scout team as well as taking responsibility for video operations and communications with UNO sports information. Upon graduation from UNO in August 2010, he officially joined the staff there as Director of Football Operations.
Brian Boerboom - Offensive Line
A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Boerboom played for legendary coach Tom Osborne at the University of Nebraska, where he earned All-Big Eight honors in 1991. He played in the Fiesta and Orange Bowls. He and his wife, Stacy, are the parents of six children -- Zach, Jake, Sarah, Jared, Mary and Nathan. Jake is a member of the Stetson football program.
Matt Diniak - Running Backs

Diniak played at Grand Valley State for current Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly and started his coaching career on Kelly’s staff at his alma mater. He spent time on the staff at USF and as an intern with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He and his wife, Angela, have two children, son Braylon and daughter Liliana.
Hughes led Stetson Football into its reinauguration in 2013, 57 years after the Hatters last took to the gridiron. He continues to work tirelessly to build the program as the Hatters enter into their fourth season of competition as members of the Pioneer Football League. Hughes came to Stetson after 10 seasons as head coach at Princeton, where he won the 2006 Ivy League championship and was the only coach Behrns came to Stetson from Wayne State College in Nebraska and is in his third season with the Hatters. He coaches the Hatters’ receivers after coaching tight ends during his first year in 2014. Behrns, who is the cousin of Director of Football Operations Nolan Behrns,
Behrns joined the Stetson staff as Director of Football Operations in August 2011. He plans, coordinates and supervises all aspects of the administrative and operational activities of the football program, as well as any other duties assigned by Coach Hughes. He oversees the video operations and exchange program and also coordinates the Boerboom is in his second season at Stetson as offensive line coach and run game coordinator. He came to Stetson after eight seasons as line coach at Southeast Missouri State. During his time at SEMO, he had two first-team All-Americans, including one who was the top offensive lineman in all FCS football. Diniak is in his third season as a member of the Stetson coaching staff. He mentors the Hatters’ running backs and also works with kickoff coverage and return teams. He came to Stetson from Saint Stephens Episcopal School in Bradenton, Fla., where he served as offensive coordinator during the 2013 season. He previously served as an offensive quality

head equipment manager and the facility manager and oversaw team travel. A 2013 graduate of Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss., Johnson was a defensive end for the Blazers after starting his career as an offensive lineman. He served as an assistant defensive line coach as a student at Belhaven before becoming assistant offensive line/tight ends coach as a graduate assistant there in 2013
Bob Majeski - Linebackers
as a defensive coordinator, offensive line coach, quarterbacks and running backs coach, offensive coordinator and head coach. He played for coach Jim Dickey at Kansas State, where he also ran on the track team. He and wife, Cheryl, have two daughters, Mandy and Maddison. He also has two stepchildren and five grandchildren.
Clay Mazza - Tight Ends
Commissioner’s Honor Roll and helped the Bears to three conference titles and a berth in the national championship game. As a senior, he turned to coaching, assisting on offense while also working with special teams and coordinating video efforts. A native of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Mazza is the older brother of Hatters’ senior running back Cole Mazza.
Kiwaukee Thomas - Defensive Backs
selection and was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. Thomas spent eight seasons in the NFL, playing for the Jags, Dolphins and Bills. He retired following the 2008 season after playing for the Montreal Alouettes. A native of Warner Robins, Ga., Thomas and his wife, Tanessa, have four children – Bryce, Kris, Kiera and Bria.
Brian Young - Defensive Coordinator
a successful tenure as a high school football and basketball coach. Young spent five seasons on the coaching staff at Mississippi College, where he helped develop a pair of AllConference defensive backs and helped guide the team to a conference title. He moved on to Cornell in 2010, helping the Big Red rank second in the Ivy League in pass defense. Young spent two seasons playing arena football before starting his coaching career.
The newest member of the Stetson football family, Johnson joined the coaching staff in March, after a twoyear stint as an assistant coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Wiggins, Miss. While at MGCCC, in addition to coaching the offensive line, tight ends and fullbacks, he also served as the

He is a 30-year veteran of the coaching profession, and came to Stetson after two seasons as Assistant Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach at Highland Community College in Kansas. He is in his fifth season as the Hatters’ defensive coordinator and also coaches the Dawg safeties. He is a native of Savannah, Ga., and a product of Georgia Southern, where he played defensive back. Items Prohibited From Stadium: The following items are prohibited inside Spec Martin Memorial Stadium. All guests are subject to search before being admitted into the stadium. Items left outside the stadium by guests will be disposed of by stadium staff. Prohibited items are subject to change. 1. Alcohol or illegal drugs of any kind (Flasks) 2. Animals 3. Banners / Signs 4. Artificial noisemaking devices (whistles, air horns, bullhorns, musical instruments, cowbells, thunder sticks, sirens, boomboxes, etc.) 5. Balls or other projectiles (sports equipment of any kind) 6. Weapons or hand cuffs 7. Hard fruit or vegetables (unless cut into small pieces) 8. Glass or Metal Bottles, Cans 9. Sticks / Poles 10.
