We aim to provide a foundational understanding of the Bible and theology so that you can be faithful to God in your particular calling, grow in grace, glorify God by loving Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and be prepared to enter a lifetime of joyful and sacrificial ministry toward others.

We focus on developing relationships with you as we help guide you in your academic pursuit as well as your spiritual and personal growth.


CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES CONCENTRATIONS MISSIONS (INTERCULTURAL STUDIES) Students interested in serving others in a missions capacity or in a mission organization upon graduation will find this concentration helps them understand cross-cultural ministry, world religions, leadership and the Holy Spirit.

URBAN MINISTRY Students who want to serve in the inner city, both in the U.S. and abroad, will focus on learning about urban leadership, cross-cultural ministry and global urbanization. Graduates in this concentration will be prepared to work in churches and parachurch ministries.

WORSHIP LEADERSHIP Worship leadership is for those who have a servant’s heart and want to help others worship in a meaningful way. Combining classes from the music department with the study of worship trends and theology, worship leadership will prepare you for guiding others in a quest for honoring God in spirit and in truth.

CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES

BIBLICAL STUDIES

YOUTH Students who want to lead work with junior high and high school students in a variety of capacities will benefit from this concentration. Classes in adolescent culture and gospel, gender and ethnic issues, youth and family ministry, and spiritual formation of youth will prepare you to work with young people in churches, boys and girls clubs, after school programs and many other venues.

BIBLICAL STUDIES CONCENTRATIONS OLD TESTAMENT A concentration in Old Testament studies will expose you to the genre and teachings of the Old Testament. You will learn to apply principles on how to interpret this ancient literary corpus, including the prophets, wisdom literature and poetry.

NEW TESTAMENT The New Testament concentration includes a second year of Biblical Greek and classes on Johannine and Pauline literature. You will be equipped with exegetical tools to excavate the riches of the New Testament and apply them to your life. You will be prepared to succeed in graduate studies or seminary upon completion of this concentration.

With Christian ministries, we understand that you bring a variety of skills and gifts to your studies, and we want to help you develop in the area of ministry that fits your abilities. All students begin with a core set of classes to establish your faith and give you the foundational principles necessary for ministry. You can then choose one or more concentrations that will best fill your calling. Biblical studies includes Biblical Greek and a core group of classes focusing on topics such as church history, Jesus and the Gospels and Christian apologetics. Students will then choose to focus on the Old Testament or New Testament.



DIVERSE FACULTY We offer students the ability to learn from faculty with diverse backgrounds. Our professors who have studied in many different regions of the country, in different denominations and served in various forms of ministry. We can truly give you a worldview that is substantive and conditioned by real-world encounters. We believe that the Great Commission was a global call to ministry and we work to give our students a practical and applicable view of what ministry looks like in the world today.


HERE ARE JUST TWO OF... OUR FACULTY MEMBERS

THOMAS BRONLEEWE, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF THEOLOGY AND MINISTRY Thomas Bronleewe is a published author in conflict management, cult awareness and a Christian perspective on war. He is published in numerous articles and the book The Cross and the Crossroads ed. by Dr. Craig Smith. Bronleewe has conducted seminars for churches and youth groups, managed his family farm, and has worked as a commercial pilot and a cult deprogrammer. He holds a B.S. in Secondary Education: Biology and Physical Education from Kansas University. He studied at Dallas Theological Seminary and completed his M.A. in Theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. JEFF DARNAUER, INSTRUCTOR OF THEOLOGY AND MINISTRY Jeff Darnauer came to Sterling College after 11 years of serving in youth ministry. His ministry has allowed him to lead mission trips and speak at retreats and camps. His passion is to reach and disciple a new generation to be authentic, passionate, thoughtful and Christ-like followers of Jesus. He is ordained in the Nazarene Church and the United Methodist Church. Darnauer holds a B.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies and Christian Education and Ministry from Wheaton College and an M.Div. from Nazarene Theological Seminary.
