There things about yourself you like and why?

I like my smile, because it is always welcoming and inviting. My personality because I can connect with anyone and be comfortable. I like my hair, because it is all mine.

What is your OMG moment?

I was one of the Digicel cheerleaders for just three days of the recently completed CPL T20 Cricket Tournament and I was also in the TV commercial promoting the event, as one of the girls coming off the plane in Carnival costume. When I saw myself in the big screens at the Oval and on TV it was like OMG, that’s me Outfit Courtesy

I always use the handicapped stall in the bathroom even though I’m not handicapped I always like the extra space, so why not? Obviously if there was a person in a wheelchair I would let them use it.

I love being an asshole Not sure where I’m going with this but I have a very abrasive personality. I love being a dickhead. I try not to say mean/hurtful things to people but I think people need to chill out. I’m extremely judgmental and I don’t think people should be offended by what I say unless they know the person I’m bagging on. Generally when I say dumb, terrible or offensive shit it’s to be funny. My friends think most of it is but there are people who think I’m a complete asshole and I’m not sure that I care... I love jokes and I don’t care whose expense it’s at so long as they don’t hear. So long as no one gets hurt I don’t think I’m an asshole but some people have a problem with me making fun of random f..ked up shit that will never affect them anyway. Not sure why I’m even posting this. I love having fun and most of the time that means acting/talking like a complete dickhead and enjoying whatever situation I may be in.

I’m afraid to go to sleep I am scared. I drink nothing but coffee to keep me awake. It’s killing me. I have fainted many times. I’m 23 years old and I don’t want to sound like I’m five. But I have horrible nightmares, ones where mutated people come after me and I’m stuck in one place and I can’t do anything and I wake up sweating and screaming. I can’t do this anymore. My friends say I’m acting like a child. But I dream about blood and flesh and all this gore. I’m being constantly chased. Sometimes, when I’m in my university classes, my eyelids feel heavy and when I close them, I hear these screeching voices like in my dreams. I take those Advil caffeine pills and I don’t know what to do anymore. I can’t do this, someone has to help me.

I am throwing I pretended he it all away was still here Hi, sorry for the throwaway. I am a 40- year-old wife and mom, make good money at a job I despise and I am an alcoholic gambler. I have stood my kids and husband up, sometimes not coming home from work because I gambled too much family money, then started drinking to deal with that and then gambled more to try to get the money back. I am a mess and I am likely to lose my job. I decided to reduce the harm to my kids by moving out of the family house this weekend, into a rooming house. I cannot even begin to describe how shitty I feel about myself at this point. I have a suicide plan, but I can’t get past the damage it would do to my kids. They don’t deserve more horror. I am trapped in this misery.

with me...

Last night I was lying in bed trying to sleep. My mind racing with thoughts of my ex. We still talk. We do not hang out though. I miss him so much...so to try to fall asleep I laid belly down...put my hand over his imaginary chest, placed my head on his imaginary shoulder, and my leg wrapped over his imaginary legs. Just like we used to do when we cuddled together. For one moment it felt real and I smiled with relief. Then I came back down to reality. I felt so pathetic...so crazy for doing something like that.. Has anyone else ever done something like this before? Or am I the only one...

How to make the best decisions (once and for all)

For any one of the 70 decisions you make daily (especially the biggies), these 8 research-backed strategies take you way beyond the old pros-and-cons list. By Jena Pincott www.oprah.com Throw Yourself a Red Herring

Two minutes—that's how long to distract yourself when mulling over your options. It worked for decision makers in a Carnegie Mellon study who went on to make better choices—picking the best car in a set, for instance—after being sidetracked by a brief number-sequence-memorizing exercise. (Any light two-minute diversion—poetry recitation, music, even Angry Birds—may do.) Brain scans revealed that while the conscious mind focuses on the distraction, the unconscious mind continues to weigh options. The tiny break may freshen your perspective and prevent overthinking, which leads to bad choices.

Remember Those Kegels

Drink five cups of water before making a big decision, then hold it in for at least 45 minutes. If you can resist a bathroom break, you might make better, less impulsive decisions than if you had an empty bladder—just like the volunteers in a study at the University of Twente. The explanation: The effort triggers an "unintentional increase" in control in other areas, including impulse control, which leads to less-hasty decisions. (Oddly, even thinking about words such as urine, toilet and bladder triggered the same impulse-inhibiting effect.)

Restrain Yourself to 7 Shades of Gray

Limit your options (for an apartment, toilet paper, anything) to seven, tops—the average number of units most of us can juggle in working memory. Add more and you'll feel paralyzed—like those now-famous study participants who were asked to choose between six types of jam versus 24 (30 versus 3 percent bought a jar), investment funds (more options, less participation) and speed dates (too many was a turnoff). In choice-overload mode, decisions made are also riskier, finds a gambling study at the University of Warwick—because information-gathering skills weaken and we lose our sense of probability.

Let Out the Gas

Open a window. Go for a walk. Even a tiny increase in indoor levels of carbon dioxide gas (CO2)—exhaled by each of us in every breath—impairs decision making, found a study published in Environmental Health Perspectives. Volunteers in a role-playing exercise made moderately worse decisions when CO2 levels were 1,000 ppm (an average crowded room) and dramatically worse ones at 2,500 ppm (a stuffier room in which we might smell others), while outdoor levels are about 350 ppm. Note: The more people in a space, the higher the CO2, which casts some doubt on whether we make our best decisions in meeting rooms. (CO2 meters cost $200 or less online.)

Do What You'd Do Before Buying a Blender

Base your decision (at least partly) on the opinions (and yes, wisdom) of in-the-know strangers—just as you would when Googling a sushi spot, say Chip and Dan Heath in their guide, Decisive: How to Make Better Choices in Life and Work. For instance, if you're deciding whether to accept a job, consult with people who have held that position there. Or, before you make a Great Gatsby–inspired relocation, find out what locals say about life on Long Island. Most of us don't seek it, but the outside view— "how things generally unfold in situations like ours"—is usually more accurate than a gut feeling. (The rare exception: intuition based on lots of clear feedback in a predictable environment—like chess or a video game.)

Push Your Fast-Forward Buttons

Think through each option and its consequences 10 minutes, 10 months, and 10 years down the road. This way, says Suzy Welch in her book The 10-10-10 Rule, you'll gain emotional distance, or "deliberation where there is only instinct." Stay in your flawed relationship or leave it? Have another baby? Eat a cheeseburger? Compare the implications with your innermost values, dreams and goals, Welch writes. Then ask yourself the burning question: "Which decision will best help me create a life of my own making?"

Allow Your Inner Scrooge to Weigh In

If you want good decisions to become default decisions (to exercise, eat better, enlighten yourself, anything), consider "sunk costs"—money spent that you can't get back, advises the Harvard philosopher Robert Nozick in his book The Nature of Rationality. For instance, buy a use-it-or-lose-it yoga class pack, prepaid weekly deliveries of organic veggies or—Nozick's example—season opera tickets. Your aversion to losing money helps you follow through on your best self's intentions—even on lazy, down days when you'd normally choose otherwise.

Apply "One-Stop Shopping"

Consider all your options at once (simultaneously) rather than one by one (sequentially), says Sheena Iyengar in The Art of Choosing. In one example, her research team asked judges to pick their favorite of five chocolates. Those who saw their options all at once were more satisfied with their choice than those who tasted them one at a time—they never knew what was coming and always hoped for better. The lesson (which applies to sandals, red wine, online-dating profiles, almost anything): Make a decision with all your options in front of you—"one-stop shopping"—and, at least for now, don't dwell on what else could possibly trump them.

Gary Zukav: Why painful things happen to good people Oprah.com

The author of The Seat of Soul and co-founder of the Seat of the Soul Institute explains. Let's say you usually shout when you become angry. Shouting in anger pushes people away, because they are intimidated, and so you become isolated. The more isolated you become, the angrier you become, the more you shout, and the more isolated and lonely you become, even if you are surrounded by people. This is because the people who surround you will absorb your energy. They will also be angry, and judgmental. They will find faults with others and live their lives as righteous victims. They will try to convince others of the wrongs and injustices they see and of their own superiority. When they succeed, they will bond with those people. Their group

will become larger and always in conflict with any group that doesn't include them. If you are an angry person, is this what you want to create? If so, continue to act in anger, and you will. Here is another example. Some people feel good about helping others, and they do so often. They do not realize that their good deeds have a second agenda. They want to be appreciated. When caretakers give and give and do not receive appreciation, thanks or even acknowledgement, they become resentful. That resentment grows over time and eventually turns to anger, and then explodes at the people who are not thankful or appreciative. People at first enjoy the caretaking, but after a while, they avoid it unless they desperately need it, because it feels "sticky." It comes with strings attached and unspoken obligations. The more people resist it, the more unappreciated and resentful and angry the caretaker feels. Is this what you want to create? If so, continue to caretake, and you will. Caretaking is different from caregiving. Caregiving has no second agendas or hidden motives. The care is given from love for the joy of giving without expectation, no strings attached. It cannot be manipulated or discouraged, because love cannot be manipulated or discouraged. Caregivers attract caregivers and live in a community of love. They are energized by their caring and fulfilled. Caretakers attract caretakers and live in the company of resentful victims who see themselves as misused and are fatigued from constant giving with no return. Caregiving requires the intention of love; caretaking requires the intention of fear. Not acting in anger when you are angry requires the intention of love. Shouting when you are angry requires the intention of fear—the intention to manipulate, control others, and pursue external power. When you know your intention, you are in a position to choose the consequences that you will create for yourself. If you choose an intention that creates consequences for which you are willing to be responsible, that is a responsible choice. Further, when the intention you choose is love, you create authentic power.

How to know if that person truly loves you

OMG Magazine | Thursday 5th September, 2013 • PAGE 9

There’s no guaranteed way to know if a person truly loves you, but there are more than a few ways to read the signs to figure out what is on the mind of your loved one. If you’d like to know if the person you love really loves you, then you have to pay attention to how the person acts, what he says, and what he does when you’re together. Though love may mean something different to every person, there are many ways to tell if a person truly loves you instead of just having a crush on you, liking you a lot, or just being momentarily infatuated with you. If you want to know if that person truly loves you, just follow these steps. Step 1

See if the person talks about your future together like it’s a given. If the person really loves you, then the idea of you being in his or her future is an absolute given, not something that he or she would ever have anxiety or uncertainty about. If the person routinely talks about what you’re going to do in the future, about what your lives will look like one, two, or even ten years in the future together, then he’s probably in love with you. True love means seeing a forever with another person. If the person talks about the future and always includes you in it, then there’s a good chance he truly loves you. If the person talks about what your kids will look like, where you’ll retire together, or where you’ll go for your honeymoon, then he may really love you.

Step 2

See if the person gives you meaningful compliments. There’s a difference between saying, “I like your new haircut” and “You have the ability to make me feel better no matter what.” If the person gives you compliments that show that he really appreciates the important aspects of your character and personality, then there’s a good chance he really loves you.

Your loved one doesn’t have to shower you will compliments all the time -- it’s the quality, not the quantity that makes a difference.

Step 3

See if the person says “I love you” and means it. Remember that there’s a big difference between “Love ya!” and “I love you.” If your special someone really loves you and tells you this much while looking into your eyes, sounding earnest, and not wanting anything from you, then it’s likely that he really means it. If the person really loves you, then he’ll say it for no reason at all, not just because he needs a favour or because it feels like the right thing to say.

Step 4

See if the person really opens up to you. If your loved one really loves you, then she’ll really open up to you and tell you what she’s thinking, feeling, fearing, and longing for. If she really opens up about her childhood, greatest regrets, most painful moments, or most romantic dreams for the future, then it’s likely that she likes you because she’s so comfortable telling you anything.

If the person tells you, “I’ve never told anyone this before...” then there’s a good chance that he really loves and trusts you.

Step 5

See if your loved one tells you how much she misses you when you’re apart. If you and your loved one are apart, but she still texts you, calls you, or emails you to let you know how much she misses you, then it means she can’t imagine her life without you. If you go on a three-week vacation and don’t hear a word from her, then it may not be love. She doesn’t have to call you constantly to let you know if she misses you.

Step 6

See if the person is comfortable with pointing out your mistakes. If that person truly loves you, then he doesn’t have an idealised picture of you in his mind. If it’s truly love, then that person will be comfortable with telling you when you’ve made a mistake, said something illogical, or acted badly. Though the person shouldn’t criticise you all the time, giving you a healthy amount of criticism just means that the person really knows you in and out and accepts your mistakes as well as your best qualities. If the person never argues with you or never criticizes you, then you should be on the look out. Make sure that the person truly loves you instead of an ideal version of who you are.

Step 7

See if the person truly values your opinion. If the person truly loves you, then he’ll care about what you think -- whether it’s about his new pair of shoes or the political situation in your country. If he really loves you, he’ll ask for your advice and opinions, whether it’s on matters big or small. He may feel self-conscious about asking for your opinion, but he’ll do it because he loves you.

How to get up in the morning Getting up is a drag without a plan. Anticipate your day by outmanoeuvring your first impulses to stay under the covers.

HOW STEP 1 - Set a daily routine

Make a long-term plan to discipline yourself to get up early. Set the alarm to wake up earlier than needed at first. Then set the clock across the room with a new rule: once up, no going back.

STEP 2 - Get to bed earlier than normal

Go to bed earlier than usual, even if only to read for an hour before dozing off. Use a fan for “white noise” so that sleep will be uninterrupted and deeper.

STEP 3 - Train yourself with water

Train bodily habits to accommodate sleep and quick waking by reducing water intake at night. Keep a tall glass by the bed for morning and drink it when you wake up -- this will help wake you up and get you out of bed more quickly.

STEP 4 - Reward yourself

Reward yourself for getting up with your favourite breakfast foods. Sitting quietly to reflect or to read before starting the day may be reward enough. Create a life with purpose and daily goals that excite you.

STEP 5 - Create objectives

Create tasks that must be done right away in the morning before the actual work day starts, whether exercise, cleaning, or fixing something around the house.

STEP 6 - Eat sensibly

Eat for waking up by ingesting the greatest amount of your daily calories in the morning and during the day and eating a smaller meal at night, so that instead of digesting a heavy meal, the body can repair and rejuvenate while you sleep. Wake rested -- and a little hungry -- which will give you the added oomph you need to get up.

Self-financing your startup Once you have decided on the type of venture you want to start, the next step on the road to business success is figuring out where the money will come from to fund it. Where do you start? The best place to begin is by looking in the mirror. Self-financing is the number-one form of financing used by most business startups. In addition, when you approach other financing sources such as bankers, venture capitalists or the government, they will want to know exactly how much of your own money you are putting into the venture. After all, if you don’t have enough faith in your business to risk your own money, why should anyone else risk theirs? Begin by doing a thorough inventory of your assets. You are likely to uncover resources you didn’t even know you had. Assets include savings accounts, equity in real estate, retirement accounts, vehicles, recreational equipment and collections. You may decide to sell some assets for cash or to use them as collateral for a loan. If you have investments, you may be able to use them as a resource. Low-interest-margin loans against stocks and securities can be arranged through your brokerage accounts. The downside here is that if the market should fall and your securities are your loan collateral, you’ll get a margin call from your broker, requesting you to supply more collateral. If you can’t do that within a certain time, you’ll be asked to sell some of your securities to shore up the collateral. Also take a look at your personal line of credit. Some businesses have successfully been started on credit cards, although this is one of the most expensive ways to finance yourself.

If you own a home, consider getting a home equity loan on the part of the mortgage that you have already paid off. The bank will either provide a lump-sum loan payment or extend a line of credit based on the equity in your home. Depending on the value of your home, a home-equity loan could become a substantial line of credit. If you have $50,000 in equity, you could possibly set up a line of credit of up to $40,000. Home-equity loans carry relatively low interest rates, and all interest paid on a loan of up to $100,000 is tax-deductible. But be sure you can repay the loan--you can lose your home if you do not repay. Consider borrowing against cash-value life insurance. You can use the value built up in a cash-value life insurance policy as a ready source of cash. The interest rates are reasonable because the insurance companies always get their money back. You don’t even have to make payments if you do not want to. Neither the amount you borrow nor the interest that accrues has to be repaid. The only loss is that if you die and the debt hasn’t been repaid, that money is deducted from the amount your beneficiary will receive. If you have a retirement plan through your employer and are starting a part-time business while you keep your full-time job, consider borrowing against the plan. It’s very common for such plans to allow you to borrow up to 50 per cent of your vested account balance up to a maximum of $50,000. The interest rate is usually 1 to 2 percent above prime rate with a specified repayment schedule. The downside of borrowing from your pension plan is that if you lose your job, the loan has to be repaid in a short period of time--often 60 days. Consult the plan’s documentation to see if this is an option for you.

Another option is to use the funds in your individual retirement account (IRA). Within the laws governing IRAs, you can actually withdraw money from an IRA as long as you replace it within 60 days. This is not a loan, so you don’t pay interest. This is a withdrawal that you’re allowed to keep for 60 days. It’s possible for a highly organized entrepreneur to juggle funds among several IRAs. But if you’re one day late--for any reason--you’ll be hit with a 10 percent premature-withdrawal fee, and the money you haven’t returned becomes taxable. If you are employed, another way to finance your business is by squirreling away money from your current salary until you have enough to launch the business. If you don’t want to wait, consider moonlighting or cutting your full-time job back to part time. This ensures you’ll have some steady funds rolling in until your business starts to soar. People generally have more assets than they realize. Use as much of your own money as possible to get started; remember, the larger your own investment, the easier it will be for you to acquire capital from other sources.

Why your business should be under constant renovation BY JIM JOSEPH

I was in Washington for the July Fourth holiday and decided to check out the National Museum of American History. The place was packed, and a lot of the area was under construction. I was surprised because I assumed a history museum wouldn’t need to change all that much, yet the place was a beehive of renovation. Everyone was whining about it, including me. I then overheard a mom talking to her kid: “That’s America, Honey. We are always under renovation.” We are always under renovation as well we should be. We can’t sit on our laurels or let things slide because they’ve already been built. Standing still means falling behind and that’s just not American. It’s also not how I’ve managed my career. Renovation has been a constant as I’ve adapted the craft of marketing from brand strategy to advertising to promotion to digital to PR to social media -- constantly learning and renovating.

This is true for entrepreneurs. We are all constantly looking for new opportunities to see what we can make of them. And it’s true for any brand. We must continually innovate and keep up with pop culture and our customers’ needs and wants because they are constantly changing with time. Take a look at Restoration Hardware, or RH as it is now also branded. The brand started out featuring retro versions of personal and home accessories like nobs and other hardware, then evolved to include complete lines of furniture for all rooms of the house. Today the brand has expanded even more to become a curator of fine architectural pieces for the home -- a completely different line of products that includes sculptural pieces, functional furniture, and lighting fixtures that fit a particular RH aesthetic. The brand is completely different than it was even a few years ago, evolving from hardware and accessories to an identifiable look and style for the home. The lesson for entrepreneurs? Don’t be afraid to renovate. It might feel annoying at the time, even to your customers. But if you don’t constantly keep up, you’ll rest yourself into stagnancy. That’s not what being an entrepreneur is about.

3 Questions to get your

business

unstuck BY GWEN MORAN

Running a business can come with a lot of problems, and sometimes, things just aren’t working right. You may have a recurring problem in your business or an uptick in mistakes or problems. You may feel unsure of what’s coming next or how to get out of the rut that seems to have deepened around you. Glenda Eoyang is the co-founder of Human Systems Dynamics Institute, a nonprofit human resource consultancy that helps leaders make sense of the patterns around them, and co-author of Adaptive Action: Leveraging Uncertainty in Your Organization (Stanford University Press, 2013). She says that to bring order from chaos and get yourself back on a forward-thinking track, you need to ask yourself questions about what is going on.

sense of “So what does this mean?” and “So what can we do about it?” In some cases, you may find that analyzing things you thought were important aren’t while details that were ignored may be root causes of your rut. For example, if you’re feeling burned out because you’re constantly correcting employees who feel that they’re not getting adequate communication, “so what” questioning might reveal how you can be more clear or it may reveal that employees need better training and clarity about what is expected of them. Either way, you have a plan of action to help you get unstuck from an undesirable situation.

3. Now what

do you do?

1. What is going on

Once you have an understanding of what is going on around you and what it means for the organization, you can ask “Now what?” to piece together a game plan. At this stage, you have the facts and you understand why they’re important, and you need to decide what are you going to do with that information. Figure out your next steps, but “hold onto them lightly,” Eoyang says. In other words, be ready to pivot if you see the new plan isn’t working.

This question relates to your current state of affairs. Stay awake and be mindful of the details in your business. What’s going on in various departments? What is surprising here? What is happening on the competitive landscape? Everywhere you look, ask a question that starts with “What?” This helps you focus on the actions that are being taken and the conditions of your business.

“Entrepreneurs are typically good at the ‘now what’ phase,” she says. “They’re full of ideas and ready to make a new plan for their businesses, especially when they have an understanding of where things are going wrong in the first place.”

Here are her three suggestions of what to ask yourself to get unstuck. around you?

2. So what does

this mean?

While asking “what” keeps you in tune with the facts around you, “So what?” makes you focus on why those facts and details are important. It should be applied both in the

One of the hardest things to do is to trust your creative nature and act upon it. Conrad Parris, however, has gone past the uncertainty of trust issues and delved straight into fields where he can exhibit his creativity. Such fields include theatre arts, acting in films, co-hosting and even singing in commercials. This guy is very talented and with 18 years of experience under his belt he has been described as dynamic, superb and talented. Conrad’s first production was ‘Coloured Girls’ by the Trinidad Theatre Workshop. Another production he was involved in at the start of his career was ‘Santa Claus, Mixed Nuts and Fruitcake,’ where his role involved him being a suicidal caller attempting to speak to someone on the hotline. However, due to a bad connection he shot himself in the head. He described it as an interesting; it provided him with a different experience which he welcomed. Conrad’s first big production was ‘Do You Take This Woman?’ in 2005. He explained that it was his first leading role and he was privileged to work with the veterans of theatre including Raymond Choo Kong, Nicki Crosby and Penelope Spencer. The production, he said, was hard work but it was all worthwhile. Impressed with Conrad already? There is more to him. Conrad has worked on the, film ‘Home Again’ which had a Trini cast and on the ‘The Brand New Lucky Diamond Horse Shoe Club’ where he, with the addition of an international cast, performed for an audience at the Indiana State University. He was the co-host of the cooking show ‘Taste’ produced by CNC3 and also was in the theatrical production ‘The King and I’, earlier this year. Conrad recently worked on a show that is being produced by CTV, ‘The Whiz Within Us.’ The show is based on a book which teaches children about etiquette, morals and values via exercise and storytelling. It will be on air soon. He is currently working on another production called ‘Pan,’ which I am sure will be no different to all his previous work – exceptional.

Those who saw ‘Do You Take This Woman?’ on its opening night at the Central Bank auditorium would agree that it was an amazing production. But do you know that the opening night of the production was Conrad’s OMG moment? When the actor chatted with OMG magazine, he told us that night at approximately a half hour before going on stage the director, Raymond Choo Kong, realised that there was a scene in the play they never rehearsed on stage. So while patrons were gathering in the lobby, the ushers kept the doors closed while the cast ran through their steps on the stage. Despite, that early major panic, the entire performance went well and the audience had a blast. OMG!

Interview Stephen Doobal | Story Amelia C. Ramjarrie

The sky is not the limit if there are footprints on the moon! Gillian Roberts is one who has faced many obstacles and overcome them with class and courage. She was born into humble circumstances but time proved that God had a purpose for her and he equipped her with the tools to accomplish it – through the skill of hairdressing. Gillian grew up in a home with only her father present – from only three months until she was 18. Her dad’s meagre income did not allow him to give her a formal academic education so he sent her to learn numerous practical skills. When she encountered hairstyling fell in love with it. At age 15, Gillian began working as a hairstylist at a salon where she developed and showcased her skills. At 18, she ran away from home for she no longer felt comfortable, saying her stepmother illtreated her. Although Gillian abandoned her home and the abuse, she didn’t abandon her tools and skills and she continued her hairstyling work. At 26, when she felt she had enough experience and skills to open her own business, she did just that in Chaguanas. Her salon was a success as it attracted many who were impressed with her skills, professionalism and personality. The following year she opened her second salon in Chaguanas. Both business places were teeming with people in need of new and fresh styles. Many of her clients would even describe their “do’s” as empowering at times, and at other times they said her handiwork would make them both feel and look different. Gillian has closed her two salons to concentrate on her daughter who is preparing for her examinations. She says being there to morally support her child is essential in this crucial time in her life. Gillian hasn’t forsaken her hairstyling business however. In fact, her working base is now the studio she set up at her home. She also does house calls. She describes her new schedule as being more convenient, saying it gives her more control over her time. Gillian also has future aspirations involving her hairstyling skills. She wants to build a bigger name for herself based on great work and satisfied customers. She wants to be known as one of the best hairstylists in Trinidad and Tobago. She wants to create new and fresh looks for Trinidad and Tobago’s women.

CHECK OUT HER FACE BOOK PAGE HAIR BY GILLIAN

It isn’t surprising that Gillian’s OMG moment has to do with hair. Her OMG moment was the day she was asked by our OMG Magazine to do hairstyling. She stated that she was never given the opportunity to do something like this for she is always in the back scene, so it was amazing to be asked to do that for OMG Magazine.

Think yourself healthy!

Garlic

The many health benefits

Hot mind-body trick

To get to the gym

Your powers of make-believe can help you control cravings, get motivated to work out, and even improve your vision, according to several recent studies.

Envision your workout Taking a few minutes to conjure up what your sweat session will feel like (pounding heart and all) may make you more likely to get off the couch.

“If you imagine an experience, the brain stimulates itself in the same way as if you were doing it,” says Joachim Vosgerau, co-director of the Center for Behavioral Decision Research at Carnegie Mellon University. Try these techniques to harness your mind’s superpowers.

To boost confidence

To curb cravings

Distract yourself In one study, volunteers were able to reduce food hankerings by imagining a rainbow or the smell of eucalyptus.

Stand like a rock star Researchers found that striking a confident stance actually stimulates a hormonal response that can make you feel more self-assured in minutes.

To improve your eyesight

Pretend you’ve got 20/20 vision Study participants who took on roles associated with perfect eyesight, such as a pilot, showed marked improvement in vision tests compared to those who didn’t. Who knew pretending could be so powerful?

1. Garlic has been found to assist babies to gain weight while they are in the womb. Next time you have a baby prepare to have garlic breath. Except if you have a history of large babies in which case maybe you want to skip the extra doses! 2. Garlic strengthens the immune system as well as helps to fight chest infections, coughs and congestion. In the winter months garlic is a great food to boost your immune system and ward off colds and flu. An old folk remedy is to eat a clove of garlic that has been dipped in honey at the first sign of a cold. Why not try it and see if it works for you? 3. Garlic contains high levels of iodine which makes it a very effective treatment for hyperthyroid conditions. Treatment with garlic has been shown to greatly improve this condition. 4. Scurvy is treated by vitamin C and garlic contains good levels of vitamin C too. 5. Popular folklore says that garlic is good for more than scaring hungry vampires away! Impotency has long been thought to benefit from doses of garlic, and treatment continues in many communities to this day. Why not try treating yourself with garlic for several months before you head off to the doctor for that Viagra prescription? 6. Cardiovascular disease can be reduced by ingesting garlic. LDL cholesterol is no friend of garlic and the aortic plaque deposits that gather on the walls of your body’s veins can be reduced with the use of garlic too. Studies have shown the amazing benefits of taking garlic in relation to heart disease. 7. Fungal and bacterial vaginal infections are toast when treated with garlic! When crushed or

bruised, garlic releases Allicin which is a sulphuric compound that is a natural antibiotic. WWI soldiers even apparently used crushed garlic on infected wounds suffered in battle. If you decide to take garlic in tablet form be sure to use powdered capsules. The processes used to create garlic tablets destroy the Allicin that is present. 8. Garlic is a great source of vitamin B6 which is needed for a healthy immune system and the efficient growth of new cells. Vitamin B6 can also assist with mood swings and improve your cheery disposition! 9. Garlic can aid in the prevention of multiple types of cancer. Bladder cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer and stomach cancer have all been shown to have their tumors reduced when treated with garlic. Vitamin B6 is said to have cancer fighting abilities. 10. Garlic regulates blood sugar as it enhances the level of insulin in the blood. This may assist in the control of diabetes. Seek medical advice if you believe the use of garlic could help your condition.

Bombay High Court rejects stay on Zanjeer 2.0 release by Namrata Thakker

Apoorva Lakhia and his team can finally heave a sigh of relief Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, who wrote the script of original Zanjeer, moved to the High Court claiming that they hold the copyright over the script, dialogues and the story of Amitabh Bachchan starrer and also demanded compensation. Since writer duo Salim-Javed had the rights of the script, they claimed it could be used only once which Prakash Mehra did while making the original Zanjeer. Hence to remake the film, it would require their consent which is why they asked the court to put a stay on the film’s release.

In fact, Puneet and Sumeet Mehra, sons of late Prakash Mehra, who are producing the remake, agreed to pay Rs 6 crore as compensation if the court ruled in SalimJaved’s favour. This was observed by the court while rejecting the stay on the release ofPriyanka Chopra and Ram Charan Teja starrer Zanjeer 2.0 which will hit the screens on September 6. While Bombay High Court has rejected their plea, Salim-Javed are now planning to appeal to the apex court. Looks like these two veteran from film fraternity aren’t going to give up so easily.

Wife boils husband in pressure cooker A woman in China who allegedly murdered her husband and boiled his corpse in a pressure cooker has reportedly handed herself into police.

Miley Cyrus

It only took Miley Cyrus two days to get ‘twerking’ into the dictionary

The man was allegedly drugged and tortured by his wife for three days in June, according to a report on government-backed news portal Anhui News. The woman, who he had reportedly abused, then dismembered her husband’s body with a

saw and boiled the parts in a pressure cooker to cover her tracks, the report claimed. It did not detail how she supposedly disposed of his cooked flesh. The woman reportedly turned herself into police due to the psychological stress of the alleged crime, which saw her lose more than 6kg in weight. A police officer in Anhui province’s Lu’an City, where the man died, confirmed the case to the AFP news agency but declined to give further details.

Ariana Grande, “Piano”:

This one will certainly play on the radio

In 2000, the Ying Yang Twins released “Whistle While You Twurk,” and the word didn’t end up in the dictionary. In 2002, the duo bragged, “she like to twerk and that’s for certain,” and the word didn’t end up in the dictionary. In 2006, Timbaland assured listeners, “You see what you’re twerking with,” and the word didn’t end up in the dictionary.

In 2011, Waka Flocka Flame told the nation to “shake it like the twerk team,” and the word didn’t end up in the dictionary. In 2012, French Montana asked us, “What you twerking with?” and the word didn’t end up in the dictionary. In 2013, Miley Cyrus danced at the VMAs, and two days later the word is now in the dictionary. Only the Oxford Dictionary Online and not the OED, but still, the example is illustrative.

“I’d rather make a song that could play on the radio,” Ariana Grande sings in her new track “Piano.” Well, mission accomplished. Not satisfied with simply basking in the glory of her song-of-the-summer contender “The Way,” Grande has released a new track from upcoming album Yours Truly, and it’s got serious hit potential. “Piano” is bouncy,

catchy, and bright like the hypothetical opening track of a Disney Channel Original Movie she might star in, but it has “radiofriendly” written all over it. Her “Mariah Carey 2.0 status is only getting stronger. Give it a listen!

Diana Nyad

completes Cuba to Florida swim at age 64 Diana Nyad

KEY WEST, Fla. -- Looking dazed and sunburned, U.S. endurance swimmer Diana Nyad walked on to the shore Monday, becoming the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without the help of a shark cage. Nyad swam up to the beach just before 2 p.m. EDT, about 53 hours after she began her journey in Havana on Saturday. As she approached, spectators waded into waist-high water and surrounded her, taking pictures and cheering her on. “I have three messages. One is, we should never, ever give up. Two is, you’re never too old to chase your dream. Three is, it looks like a solitary sport, but it is a team,” she said on the beach. “I have to say, I’m a little bit out of it right now,” Nyad said. She gestured toward her swollen lips, and simply said “seawater.” Her team said she had been slurring her words while she was out in the water. She was on a stretcher on the beach and received an IV before she was taken by ambulance to a hospital. “I just wanted to get out of the sun,” she said. It was Nyad’s fifth try to complete the approximately 110-mile swim. She tried three times in 2011 and 2012. Her first attempt was in 1978. “It’s historic, marvellous,” said Jose Miguel Diaz Escrich, the Hemingway Marina commodore who helped organise the Cuba side of Nyad’s multiple attempts. “I always thought she could do it given her internal energy, her mental and physical strength, her will of iron,” said Diaz Escrich, whom Nyad has described as a longtime friend.

jumped from the seawall of the Hemingway Marina into the warm waters off Havana. She stopped from time to time for nourishment, but she never left the water. The support team accompanying her had equipment that generated a faint electrical field around her, which was designed to keep sharks at bay. A boat also dragged a line in the water to help keep her on course. Sumaya Haddin, of Miami, had been tracking Nyad’s swim before her family’s trip to Key West this weekend. She was surprised to see Nyad’s flotilla from a parasail off Smather’s Beach on Monday morning. She thought Nyad wasn’t due for another day. “You couldn’t see her, you could just see the boats. It was very exciting,” she said. Haddin said Nyad still had her fighting spirit when she got to the beach. “Getting into the ambulance, she had her peace sign up, her fist up. She was still fired up.” Australian Susie Maroney successfully swam the Strait in 1997 with a shark cage, which besides protection from the predators, has a drafting effect that pulls a swimmer along. In 2012, Australian Penny Palfrey swam 79 miles toward Florida without a cage before strong currents forced her to abandon the attempt. This June, her countrywoman Chloe McCardel made it 11 hours and 14 miles before jellyfish stings ended her bid. In 1978, Walter Poenisch, an Ohio baker, claimed to have made the swim using flippers and a snorkel. Critics say there was insufficient independent documentation to verify his claim.

“More than the athletic feat, she wants to send a message of peace, love, friendship and happiness ... between the people of the United States and Cuba,” he said.

Nyad first came to national attention in 1975 when she swam the 28 miles around the island of Manhattan in just under eight hours. In 1979 she swam the 102 miles from North Bimini, Bahamas, to Juno Beach, Fla., in 27.5 hours.

Her last try was cut short amid boat trouble, storms, unfavorable currents and jellyfish stings that left her face puffy and swollen.

Nyad is also an author of three books, a motivational speaker and has been a reporter and commentator for NPR.

This time, she wore a full bodysuit, gloves, booties and a mask at night, when jellyfish rise to the surface. The new silicone mask caused bruises inside her mouth, making it difficult for her to talk, she told her team when she was about 2 miles from land. Doctors travelling with Nyad were worried about her slurred speech and her breathing, but they didn’t intervene, according to Nyad’s website. Nyad’s journey began Saturday morning when she

Mariah Carey is a loving,

supportive wife - NOT! What do you think it’s like to be married to Mariah Carey? Do you think she’s one of those sweet, doting spouses who’s always right by your side, supporting you in everything you do and believing in you every step of the way? If so, then you’re correct! And by “correct,” obviously I mean “have you ever even heard of Mariah Carey, get out of here with this, she’s pretty much bananas.” Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon

(???) enough to be in a life partnership with Mariah at her seasoned pop diva best, accidentally let us in on what it means to be Mr. Mariah Carey. And it’s not that awesome: “She thinks my music is a big joke, but so do I so it doesn’t matter. My music is silly, you know what I mean, she makes anthems that changes people’s lives. I make songs about shaking ya a--.” And yeah, Nick doesn’t sound that sad, but isn’t that kind of sad? Nick is an adorable dude, and he always, always goes on and on about how wonderful Mariah is. Even if he’s not changing the world with his music, would it kill her to be a little supportive about it?

David Wayne Jordan allegedly shoots arrow wrapped with marijuana at jail window The Huffington Post | By Andy Campbell

Maybe one day, David Wayne Jordan will be a straight shooter. But not on this day. The 36-year-old Bellingham, Washington man was arrested on Tuesday morning after he allegedly fired an arrow -- wrapped with a package of marijuana -- at the second-floor recreation area of Whatcom County Jail. Police say he intended to gift the weed to inmates, but Jordan claims he was hunting squirrels, according to The Bellingham Herald. A civilian employee with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office allegedly spotted Jordan getting out of his Ford pickup at about 8:40 a.m. on the south side of the jail. He witnessed Jordan firing the weed-laced arrow at a mesh screen near the top of the second floor, and

called the sheriff’s office. He reportedly shot too high, and his arrow landed on the roof, the Associated Press reports. Sheriff Bill Elfo said that at the right angle, he may have succeeded. Still, “He had no explanation as to why squirrel hunting requires attaching marijuana to an arrow,” Elfo told the Herald. The baggie on the arrow contained a few grams of weed and an unknown substance, the New York Daily News reports. Officials obtained a search warrant and forced their way into Jordan’s home after he wouldn’t let them in. Earlier this month, he served a 20-day jail sentence for two counts of assault and one of resisting arrest. He was rebooked Tuesday evening on suspicion of introducing contraband to a corrections facility, resisting arrest and obstructing law enforcement.

Sean Kingston gang rape allegations torpedo concert Sean Kingston learned a hard Canadian lesson -- the whole “innocent until proven guilty thing” doesn’t fly north of the border ... because a university pulled the plug on his appearance in the wake of gang rape allegations.

SEAN KINGSTON

Sean was scheduled to perform at the University of Western Ontario on September 7 for the school’s Orientation week -- but the school pulled the plug Friday, saying, “Having

Mr. Kingston perform could cloud the values surrounding O-Week,” adding the school has “zero tolerance for sexual assault.” TMZ broke the story ... Kingston was sued by a 22-year-old woman who claimed he, his bodyguard and a member of his band forced her to have sex with them back in 2010 inside Sean’s hotel room. Sean settled the suit but is adamant the sex was consensual. Apparently prosecutors felt the same way because they rejected a criminal case because they doubted the woman’s cred.
