IN-SITU-CTCLIMATE GAIN AN INSIGHT UNDER REALISTIC ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Industrial computed tomography (CT) is established as a non-destructive tool supporting material development. It allows to link characteristic values to the actual structure of the particular specimen, as a result of material and process. In the same manner, the behavior of materials under various stress conditions is of interest, either mechanical, thermal, chemical etc. In order to fulfill the recurring requirement of applying extrinsic thermal load, while running a CT-inspection diondo developed the in-situ-CT climate.

As an example for high safety requirements the In-situ-CT can provide a high resolution sight into li-ion batteries. Due to their high material density and relative large dimensions the system is equipped with a powerful 600 kV X-ray tube in combination with a line detector.

A high volume climate chamber has been optimized for CT-suitability. It keeps high or low temperature or generates predefined temperature and humidity profiles, while CT inspection is executed automatically to ease long testing cycles.

HIGHLIGHTS

For this configuration numerous gas- and thermal-sensors are monitoring the system and battery and in case of e.g. an exothermic reaction, the complete climatic chamber will be flooded by foam by an external extinguishing device.
