As we celebrate warmer weather, we also look forward to new and exciting opportunities for continued lifelong learning. I believe that we have a wonderful lineup of enrichment classes – something for everyone in our community.

We have an array of new offerings. In addition, we’ll continue to offer favorites such as nature, wellness, technology, food, and art classes. It is an excellent time to try something new or take a favorite class. I look forward to seeing you there!

This class provides an evening full of food, fun and friends. Enjoy the night socializing and eating pizza while watching a recent PG or PG-13 movie. Tuition includes food costs. Enter door 1.

Karaoke & Root Beer Floats

You’ll have the opportunity to showcase your singing skills at this interactive class. A karaoke machine will be set up just for your moment in the spotlight. Bring musical CDs or choose from the Project Challenge collection. Dancing shoes are optional. Afterward, singers will enjoy a root beer float. Enter door 1.

Baseball Bowling

Take me out to the bowling ballgame! Bowl your way around the “bases” with strikes and spares to score as many runs as you can for a chance at a prize. Have fun enjoying this activity with your friends. Tuition includes games of bowling, rental shoes, and prizes.

This class also provides a fun opportunity to practice skills you can use in daily life including math and money management, taking turns, sportsmanship and teamwork. Go bowling cross country with bowling terms from your game. Each player will receive a card with bowling terms from around the country. Complete all the circles on the path and earn a prize. Tuition includes two games of bowling, shoes and prizes.

There is nothing better than relaxing on a Saturday morning with a cup of special blended coffee or hot chocolate! Add a pastry and a few friendly games of UNO with friends to complete the day. Tuition includes pastry and a hot drink. Enter door 3.

Bingo

Join friends for a lucky and exciting evening of socializing, laughter and great bingo prizes! You may play two cards to increase your chances of winning. Class meets at Tech High School. Enter door 1.

Bowling Bingo

Participants will enjoy an evening of fun in a class combining bowling with bingo! At the beginning of each game, participants receive a bingo card marked with bowling terms. As they bowl, items are crossed off the bingo card. A winning bingo card receives a prize. Tuition includes two games of bowling, shoes and prizes.

Stay fit while visiting with friends and enjoying the warm evenings. Meet at the Whitney Recreation Center and walk the path outside. Participants walk inside at Whitney Recreation Center in the event of inclement weather. Wheelchair accessible.

Chair Fitness is a comprehensive chair exercise program for those who want a seated workout. This program is designed to deliver a FUN and interactive workout that uplifts people while providing a total body workout. Equipment is provided.

Summer Dance

Project Challenge Staff

Spend a memorable summer evening outside! Join friends for a night of great music and dancing with music provided by a DJ. Pre-registration is preferred. Walk-ins must be accompanied by staff with full name, address, phone number and class fee to register on site. The Summer Dance is generously co-sponsored by Arc Minnesota and the Bette Pollreis Memorial Fund. Tuition includes pizza, beverage and entertainment.

Minnesota Twins Game Field Trip

Project Challenge Staff

Are you a fan of the great American sport of baseball? Travel to Target Field in Minneapolis via bus to see the Minnesota Twins Major League Baseball (MLB) team play the Oakland Athletics. Tuition includes ticket, transportation, lunch, and beverages. After the game, you’ll return via bus to North Junior High for pickup. Please indicate if you need wheelchair seating at the time of registration. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: May 24, 2024, so tickets can be purchased.

Music in the Gardens

Project Challenge Staff

Participants will enjoy a relaxing Sunday afternoon with friends, listening to live music at Munsinger Gardens located on the banks of the beautiful Mississippi River. Meet at the gazebo in the lower park of Munsinger Gardens. Participants should be picked up at the gazebo following the concert. NOTE: getting to the gazebo may be difficult for people with mobility issues. Bring to class: chair or blanket for seating and money if you choose to purchase a root beer float!

Learn how to become a powerful, confident and kind leader with this fun BINGO twist. Join other self-advocates as they support you with learning about self-advocacy, how to make positive change and live your best life. Snacks and prizes included! Enter door 1.

We’re headed back to the rodeo! See events such as calf roping, bull riding, saddle bronco riding, steer wrestling, steer roping and barrel racing. WHEN TO REGISTER

Registration for classes is open upon receipt of the catalog. Online registration announcements will be made available at www.isd742.org/CommunityEd.

CLASS CONFIRMATION

Unless we contact you, assume the course is held at the time and place indicated and that you are registered.

CANCELLATIONS

• Complete refund is given if a class is canceled or filled.

• A $5 cancellation fee plus direct expenses (materials, transportation, ticket and/or other class costs) will be charged if participants cancel a class within five working days and up to 24 hours prior to class.

• Classes canceled less than 24 hours in advance will not be refunded.

• A $5/15 minute late pick-up fee is due upon pick-up.

SATISFACTION GUARANTEED

If participants are not 100% satisfied with a class, they can contact the Community Education Main Office at 320-370-8200 and we will gladly address your concerns.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS

If school closes during the day due to bad weather, Community Education will cancel all activities. Announcements are made on the District 742 website and local radio stations.

District 742 Community Education instructors are employed because they have a special skill or expertise they are willing to share with the community. District 742 Community Education does not endorse the opinions or business affiliation of instructors.

TRIPS & OUTINGS

All pick up times listed indicate the time the bus/van leaves that location. It takes some time to board the bus and secure wheelchairs so we ask that you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the departure time.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

If you are eligible to receive financial assistance, it will consist of 50% of each class fee up to $20 per catalog. You must be a resident of District 742 to qualify. Verification required. If you are a member of UCare Minnesota, contact Community Education for information regarding partial fee reimbursement.
