2013 Youth Poetry Contest Only the Beginning Boom! Like a flash of before my eyes, This is the beginning of sadness. I say to myself The whole idea makes me feel Like I’m coming down with something And it must be treated as a powerful stranger. Together we will nto get through it, But nobody can make it out of her alone. Apparently you could Eyes bemused‐ A disconnect Lifeless, laying there. The slight glimpse of hope tumbled down upon us. It angers and saddens me This is the storm cloud hanging over me Dampening me day. You’re gone you left us… Searching for answers That no one can seem to find. This is not bitter sweet. This is the kind of reality That can shatter mirrors And cut deep within our souls. Between you and your life A silence was coming. Yet, I’m left helpless and scared Like a toddler whose missing their parents. I continue to hide behind closed doors Concealing my emotions. I feel as light as a feather Nothing weighing me down, Except my heavy heart. But most of all‐‐ I don’t know who I am Without you. And now I’ll never be the same Again… Please pardon my problems and I. Now, let me be myself This is the beginning of my sadness. Tori Fricker Grade 9, Perry High School
