Class Propheq As I sit in this crowded train station with the clang of an engine, the shputs of a red cap, taxi horns and the murmuring of hundreds of voices, m y thoughts are not disturbed, for they ar.e of the people themselves and how they got to be what they are. I see people of every occupation and vocation hurr ying to carry out their duties and obligations, and I can't help but wonder how many trials and tribulations they have survived in the journey of their life. Their facial expressions reflect the many hardships which are borne by all people who attempt to climb the ladder of success in life. Some have reached their peak by leaps and bounds while others . have progressed slowly but with determination and a strong foothold. It couldn't have been an easy task, for this life of experience contains many hardships and sacrifices which must be met with boldness and determination. But, along with these obstructions, there are also immeasurable rewards and satisfactions which come as a result of hard work and perseverance. These thoughts return and brinâ‚Ź( alive once again the warm fellowship of my classmates in the class of 1952. Each of the members of that class was gifted with the power and ability to stick with anything he undertook and seeing so many different types of people who represent every phase and wal k of life, the personal characteristics of many of these classmates flash clearly through my thoughts.

/

There, that lady going toward the ticket window, how she reminds me of my former classmates; and over there, that carefree boy wearing his athletic letter, Oh, how I long for the shouting crowds who were present for our ball games; those two girls besidemewhoarelaughing and describing some happy experiences together like the ones we enjoyed while presenting our senior play--all these thoughts bring back fond memories of my dear old school days and the companionship of my classmates. They make me wish that I might be able to see them and renew our old ¡f riendships. I know not where they are or what they may be doing, but I a:m certain that as long as they place their trusts in the Divine Spirit, they will be guided onward with high hopes and clear ideals through life's journey . My, how time does fly, for my train's departure is being sounded over the public address system, and I must journey on, taking my place as a spoke in the great wheel of life.

Class History '52

Mr. the roll. HazelGH which inc entertain Anotl practice. the appla been a ht We e Presiden

Tim~ flies so quickly! It seems only yesterday that a group Of noisy children entered the first grade to start their long journey of success. Of our group of twentythree, only eight were present that first day: Vernon Anderson, Charles Witt, Pat.sy Baber, Betty Garwood, Winnie Louhoff, Joan Napier, Betty Pugh, and Mildred Tomlin. Under the careful direction of Miss Durrer, we were able to accustom ourselves to school life.

During the years beginning September, 1942 through May, 1948, we acquired seven permanent students to add to Gur happy group. These members, Meredith Woodson, Virginia Graves, Marvin Dollens, Mary Elizabeth Cook, Peggy Mawyer, Mabelle Tomlin, and Grace Patterson, proved to be a great asset to our class. September, 1948 found us, shy and timid freshmen, entering four of the most significant years of our life, Although we were shy and backward, we. were eager to adjust to the high school activities. Our freshman year found us with Mrs. Marcia Snook as sponsor and Betty Pugh as President, Patsy Baber as Vice-President, Charles Witt as Secretary-Treasurer, and Winnie Louhoff as Reporter. We were joined by Mac Wade, Genevieve Kirby, Susie Harris, and Louise Sullivan. We especially enjoyed the science class taught by Mr. Woodard in which we had many experiences. In the early spring of '49, the halls trembled with shrill cries and yells. T h is happened to be the day when a science experiment got beyond control and almost caught the freshman room on fire. In September, 1949, we turned the second leaf in our high school ca-reer--as sophomores. Our class officers were: Winnie Louhoff-President; Betty Jean PughVice-President; Patsy Baber-Secretary, Treasurer; and Vernon Anderson-Reporter. An outstanding event for us, as sophomores, was our annual picnic. Our planned trip to Gypsy Hill Park was canceled because of rain, but, by the kindness of Miss Mary Reid, we were able to hold our picnic in her cabin at Buffalo Gap.

Mr. Beddow opened our junior year by securing the names of the students for the roll. We learned then that ..we had two new members added to the former roll-Hazel Gibson and Bucky Smith. The spotlight of the year wa:s the Junior Senior 'Party which included a picnic, outdoor games, and a movie. To provide the money for the entertainment of the seniors, we sold candy during the year. Another high light of the year was our MINSTREL, which required many hours of practice. This was given as· an assembly program before the entire school. From the applause and the compliments after the program, we concluded th.a t it must have been a huge success. We elected for our class officers~ Charles Witt-President; Mac Wade-VicePresident; and Winnie Louhoff-Secretary -Treasurer.

CRACK! BANG! We found ourselves beginning THE y ear. Our first move was to elect class officers. They were: Betty Jean Garwood- Pres i dem; Winme LouhoffVice- President; Joan Napier-Secret ary; Betty Jean Pugh-Treasurer;and Patsy BaberReporter. Bringing with us ideas from the junior y ear, we decided t o give a radio show as an assembly program. This included songs, piano solos and duets, monologues, and commercials. We soon found ourselves starting work on the "ECHOLITE". Joan Napier was elected Editor and with her guidance and suggestions we decided to dedicate the annual to Mr. Frank Beddow. He was our home room teacher during our Junior year, and this year he has always been willing to help us w ith any of our problems. The most entertaining highlights of the y ear included our trip to Washington, the Junior-Senior Party, and, last but not least, the senior play, "Too Sw eet For Sixteen. " This play, a mixture of comedy and romance, was centered around Judy Prudy, a sweet sixteen, wh o would move heaven and earth t o get her own way. We shall always remember the many hours spent working on the play. As May 31 approaches, we, the seniors of 1 9 52, look back upon the many enjoyable and memorable events with happy and reminiscent hearts. We are thankful to those, teachers, parents and principal, who have guided and encouraged us along the difficult journey to success. And, so with fond memories and loving hearts, we turn the last page of our high school iife.

TOGETHER

Together Together Together Together

we've practiced the golden rule, we've spent happy days at school, we've shared and worked and played, many foundations welve laid,

As children of six we played with toys _ (As will all normal girls and boys.) We built our castles in the air And dreamed of a future bright and fair.

Through our Senior year we gaily skimmed. None of our past will ever be dimmed By hate, or greed or even false pride. We'll stay together in our stride. What have we come to know of life? Some joy, some sorrow, and some strife. Some hours that humbled our troubled souls Into a sacrament which heaven holds.

We learned to spell, to write and read, We passed along at a rapid speed. Geography brought continents before our eyes-Sent us on journeys through the skies.

A life fully lived, but in review We see what staying together can do, Our past is so precisely measured. Each memory of it will forever be treasured.

Others joined us on the way-We liked them; invited them to stay. We drew and wrote and sang for fun Until our grade school days were done.

As men and women of tomorrow We'll share with the world in joy and sorrow. And as we in our robes depart Dear Greenwood remains in our heart.

Our high school days were full of fun. For us a new life had begun, There were years of history, English, and math As we paved this upward path.

But now the time has come to say "Farewell, Dear Greenwood, this is the day That we shall all take in mind The knowledge obtained and friendships kind;

Our bodies we trained, to healthy be As we worked and played so merrily. Never a minute was spent in vain. We performed our duties--sunshine or rain.

To enter in life's outward school To be the wise man--not the fool Who lost his way years before Who dropped the anchor, then the oar.

Our minds we trained to understand The problems we face in our homeland, To think for ourselves; to wisely act To obtain proper knowledge of every fact.

But we the Seniors of '52 Are equipped to see the future through; To sail the seas in .stormy weather In faith and love we'll stay TOGETHER.
