Mozart: The Man Revealed

Mozart In Focus

It is a universal wisdom passed down through the generations that Mozart was a genius. But hang on a minute – why? Julian Horton, Professor of Music at Durham University, has some answers and with help from members of Ensemble 360 he will illustrate them with live excerpts from the Clarinet Quintet.

Mozart’s story is well-known: Austrian born, with a tyrant of a father who drove him relentlessly, an unhappy marriage to a spendthrift wife, a childlike character ill at ease amid the pomp of the Viennese court and an early death that robbed the world of genius. Yet only the last is true. John Suchet sheds new light on the man behind the many myths. John will be signing copies of his book Mozart: The Man Revealed at the end of the talk.

Tickets: £5

Bring & Sing with Simon Berridge

The beauty of Mozart’s music is at its most poignant in apparently simple pieces such as the motet Ave Verum Corpus. We warmly invite all enthusiastic singers to join this session led by Simon Berridge, choral animateur and member of the acclaimed ensemble The Sixteen, and explore this choral masterpiece alongside popular and traditional songs. The Bring & Sing choir will give an informal performance of Ave Verum Corpus with Ensemble 360 as part of its evening concert. Please contact education@stables.org if you’d like to take part in this event. Tickets: £12 (includes ticket for evening Ensemble 360 concert)
