St. Joseph’s Villa is an officially registered, licensed, certified and accredited nonprofit, nonsectarian charitable organization. The Villa was awarded nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization status by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and is also certified tax exempt by the Virginia Department of Taxation per Code of Virginia Section 58.1609.11. As such, donations to the Villa are tax deductible as allowed by law. The Villa is licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services,Virginia Department of Education and Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
The Villa is also certified by the national Council on Accreditation for children and family services and registered with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services-Charitable Registration Office, per the Code of Virginia Section 57-49, as a Virginia charitable organization. The Villa is an approved Medicaid provider for many of its services.
The Villa is a member of the ChamberRVA and is recognized as an Accredited Charity by the Better Business Bureau of Central Virginia. As the saying goes, the only constant in life is change – and this year was surely no exception. At the Villa, these times of change inspire us to reimagine how our programs can address the immediate and long-term challenges of our community. With help from our dedicated supporters, we’ve moved quickly to create new tools, resources, and meaningful touchpoints for our families as they navigate some of the most difficult times of their lives. And while we keep a sharp eye on meeting the critical needs of today, we continue looking ahead to prepare for a future of steadfast service. We celebrated a historic Villa milestone when we opened the doors to our brand new, state-of-the-art Sarah Dooley Center for Autism to start the 2021-22 school year. With a community investment of $9.5 million, the repurposed 24,000 sq. ft. school building is expertly customized to meet our students’ unique needs, and will reinvent how we deliver life-changing services to this rapidly growing population educated in public schools. Through partnerships in research and teacher training, we have the opportunity to model best practices in autism education and impact thousands of lives across Virginia. It is truly an exceptional space for both students and faculty. With housing instability on the rise, our Flagler Housing & Homeless Services successfully led a community-wide effort to end chronic veteran homelessness in Virginia’s Crater Region. Flagler and partner providers collaborated at an unprecedented level to reinvent intake and data collection systems, in order to gain insight into each veteran’s needs and promptly target solutions. Today, fewer veterans in the region are experiencing homelessness than can be routinely housed in a month. Flagler and its partners are now working to scale this victory to end chronic homelessness for youth and families. While the pandemic has led us to invest resources in telehealth and virtual learning technologies, this year we introduced Outpatient Behavioral Therapy as a new campus-based program. The program builds on our in-home services to allow for more family flexibility, as well as staff observation, coaching, and training to improve the depth of treatment. Wherever our families need us to be, the Villa is there. Since 1834, St. Joseph’s Villa has been a place where children and families can turn for safety, stability, and an opportunity for a brighter future. The Villa is uniquely positioned to take a collaborative approach to serving the whole child and their family by providing integrated, trauma-informed programs in partnership with our community. Education Services Career and Transition Services Dooley Center for Alternative Education (Grades 6 -12) Dooley School at St. Joseph’s Villa (K-12) Developmental Disabilities Services Day Support for Adults Day Support for Children In-Home Behavioral Treatment Sarah Dooley Center for Autism NEW Outpatient Behavioral Therapy An expansion of In-Home Behavioral Treatment services, this clinic-based model uses Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to create individualized service plans for each child, and operates on the Villa campus to give families an option for service delivery outside of the home.
Outcomes Our clinician team provided 367 individual sessions and 725 group sessions for Dooley School students. 92% of students sustained or improved their grades.
95% of children who received Intensive In-Home Services avoided out-of-home placement. 89% of children served by the Crisis Stabilization Unit were diverted from hospitalization. 4
