Title : Soil volunteer: A good assistance of farmer Researcher : Mrs. Sansanee Sayasondhi1), Dr.Varataya Thammakittipob2) Office : 1) Kanchanaburi College of Agriculture and Technology 2) Department of Vocational Education, Faculty of Education, Kasetsart University, Bangkhen Campus Abstract The purpose of this research is to describe the background and development of soil volunteer who success in self development. It is focusing on the self improving process in his career and how to transfer his knowledge as a model to enhance the local farmer’s development. The data collection is making through two approaches. One is the interview with a soil volunteer, the official of Supanburi station of land development and 5 framers who live in Nong Ratchawatra Sub-district. Then, the observation technique is conduct to provide data concerning his performance of working and the village context. The research result concludes that the route of being soil volunteer begins with the official’s persuasion who understands tasks, characteristics as well as a devotion of soil volunteer. On the route of devotion, he continuous develop himself from his occupational performance until he success. Obviously, he loves to learn through do by himself first, from mistakes, finding way to solve problem and then he gives advices other farmers. These make him be accepted and promoted be the province soil volunteer of Supanburi. In addition, the findings would be helpful to those who are responsible for selecting or developing soil volunteer who have high capacity and experience in agriculture in order to help farmers in their community. Research Objectives To describe the background and development of soil volunteer who success in self development Research design The study was qualitative research, carried out Nong Ratchawatra Sub-district, Nongyhasi District, Supanburi Province. Sample and sample selection; samples consisted of the province level soil volunteer of Supanburi province through use of purposive sampling, because he is richness of data, credibility member and he can help the research access (gate keeper) the second target population, that is farmer. The 5 farmers who live in Nong Ratchwatre Sub-district by snowball sampling technique, because during the day, they work in their farm or other places, someone were free and willing to give the information. Someone were not free and not willing, so the research had to move to another. The official of Supanburi station of land development by purposive sampling in order to get the data correctly.


Data for this study were colleted from December, 2006 to March of 2007. Researcher prepared before getting in to field as follows. To study from documents and researches related to soil volunteer. Select site and the soil volunteer in consideration of information diversity and for reasons of convenience and suitability. The data collection is making through two approaches. One is the face to face interview with a soil volunteer, the official of Supanburi station of land development and 5 framers who live in Nong Ratchawatra Sub-District. Then, the observation technique is conduct to provide data concerning his performance of working and the village context. The data elicited from farmer included their opinion toward the provincial soil volunteer. The primary data consists of the personal background characteristics, attitudes, his opinion and the route of being the provincial soil volunteer. Data analysis; data were transcribed into text and type, also take our own note while interview. Classify text document transcribed from recording tape by similar wording. Analyze relations and compare to note similarity and difference from each group providing information. Make analysis from phrase relationship and concept map Conclusion He was born in poor farmer family, and sees all step of farming, knew farming problems but didn’t know the way to solve them. Then he went to the agricultural college of Supanburi, and he earns the diploma in agriculture. His ambitious lead him to earn the Bachelor of Science, majoring in Agricultural Technology. He collected knowledge and experience for farming by himself before he earned degree. He failed in doing farm many times, but he didn’t give up. The route of being soil volunteer; begin with the official’s persuasion who understands tasks, characteristics as well as a devotion of soil volunteer. When he became the village soil volunteer, he started study about roles and duties of soil volunteer. After he knows, he services and helps farmers in everyway. Moreover, his education, experience in agriculture, kindness, love to help others and continuous self development make him be accepted from farmer and be voted from the other soil volunteers promoted to be the sub-district, the district and the provincial soil volunteer of Supanburi province. In correspond with Broom Theory categorizing into 6 levels. Memorizing knowledge is at bottom level before developing to physical skill such as imitation, acting what they have been told, or doing naturally. On the route of devotion, he continuous develop himself from his occupational performance until he success. Obviously, he loves to learn through do by himself first, from mistakes, finding way to solve problem and then he gives advices other farmers. These make him be accepted and promoted be the province soil volunteer of Supanburi. In addition, the findings would be helpful to those who are responsible for
