VERONA

The identity of the city of Verona lies right underneath its Marble flo ors, the city has been evolving through time as a new city builds on top of the old one, and in some cases there are reveals of the past cities. Such layering creates a strata of different moments in time and each layer is just as important as the new one. The layers chosen for this projects are the Roman layer, as it represents the very beginnings of the city, the Renaissance Layer , which had a major presence in the city as it represented a change and oportunity, and the actual city layer, which represent the actual conditions. The layers are taken in a more metaphorically way as they represent the condition of interrelationship between old and new and how these layer start to weave into each other and having reveals of one layer on the other.

CasaCapas

Casa Capas - “Layered House | The interface, the interaction space; not an inert enclosure, but rather a transfer,a device for relationship and interchange with the city. A place for enjoyment and stimulus, not only for shelter. A landscape to inhabit.” -Manuel Gausa San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the US and the second largest in Texas. The Riverwalk is a vibrant and important part of the city’s urban fabric. The Riverwalk winds its way through the city connecting restaurants, shops, and major tourists attractions. The success of the Riverwalk has spawned expansion plans for areas of the river to the north and south of downtown. The La Villita corridor features a strong art community comprised of high end art shops/galleries and restaurants.

Expressions

Explorations

The following study explores how digital media and physical material are used interchangeably as instruments in a design environment. The computer is introduced as a to ol that enables the study of modeling, light, shade, shadow, color, transparency, translucency, reflectivity, and texture.

Poetics

The study uses a systematic approach inspired by Bauhaus principles of craftsmanship and visual perception. A series of exercises stimulate intuition, experimentation, and analytic observation. The methodology explores the tactics and techniques of space making with a particular emphasis on experiential factors.

Sequence Strips

Sequence Strips

Digital Schemas

Developed by taking cues from the underlying source images (sequence strips)and by emphasizing and articulating the joints and connections of overlapping, interlocking or interpenetrating elements.

Digital Relief: The digital relief is a transitional study between two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds.

Perspectival Exploration: This exercise is the expression of the idea carried through out the project. The exercise uses a process of composing an image out of rendered views from the digital relief model, to develop a perspectival image. Each of the images used express a strong sense of solid and void, projection and depression, positive and negative space, etc., to facilitate the development of new space.

Photography

An interpretation of my reality. How I see it in my mind, and not necessarily how reality appears to everybody else. A medium that allows me to perceive a parallel universe, a hidden reality that is only revealed through the lens of a camera .

The photograph itself doesn’t interest me. I want only to capture a minute part of reality. - Henri Cartier Bresson
