springdance 2011 Wij zijn in beweging. We lopen, rennen, dansen, rijden, vliegen – mobiliteitskwesties nemen in het leven van mensen een centrale plaats in. Meer dan ooit te voren vormt mobiliteit de sleutel tot ons begrip van de wereld waarin we leven. Onze cultuur is niet langer plaatsgebonden maar is dynamisch geworden; cultuur verplaatst ideeën, mensen, artistieke producten en diensten over de wereldbol. Maar de medaille heeft twee kanten; dit belooft vooruitgang, vrijheid, verandering en betere kansen, maar het vormt ook een bedreiging voor het menselijke instinct om een thuis te creëren en onszelf te wortelen in een lokale gemeenschap en stabiele relaties. We worden geconfronteerd met de ecologische en politieke consequenties van de schijnbaar eindeloze mogelijkheden die we hebben en het confronteert ons met onze eigen vooroordelen. Misschien kunnen we alleen via mobiliteit iets begrijpen van de veelheid aan contexten in onze hedendaagse wereld. SPRINGDANCE 2011 biedt vernieuwende en avontuurlijke dansvoorstellingen van choreografen uit de hele wereld, van Japan tot IJsland en van Israël tot België. Nieuwe en bekende toptalenten presenteren hun werk op persoonlijke en verrassende wijze. In deze 27e editie van SPRINGDANCE volgen we het idee van fysieke mobiliteit in verschillende richtingen, bij verschillende snelheden en op verschillende schalen. Tijdens het festival wordt mobiliteit gevangen op haar reis door het bewegende lichaam en door veranderende persoonlijke identiteiten; snel en langzaam, verticaal en horizontaal, lineair en rond, repetitief en non-repetitief, stil en luid, zacht en heftig, van beweging naar bewogenheid. We are on the move. Walking, running, dancing, driving, flying – issues of movement are central to people’s lives. Mobility is more important to understanding the world we live in than ever before. Our culture no longer sits in places, but has become dynamic; it moves ideas, people, artistic goods and services around the globe. But there are two sides to the coin; it promises progress, freedom, changes and better opportunities, but it threatens our human instinct to build homes and become rooted in local communities and stable relationships. It confronts us with the ecological and political consequences of our seemingly unlimited possibilities and with our own prejudices as well. Perhaps it is only through mobility that we can understand the multiple contexts of our world today. SPRINGDANCE 2011 offers innovative and adventurous dance performances by choreographers from everywhere around the world, from Japan to Iceland and from Israel to Belgium. New talents as well as more established artists will be presenting their work in their own personal and surprising ways. This 27th edition of SPRINGDANCE tracks the idea of physical mobility over a number of possible outlooks, at a variety of different speeds and on a range of different scales. In the festival, mobility is captured as it travels in the movement of bodies, through shifting personal identities, fast and slow, vertical and horizontal, linear and circular, repetitive and non-repetitive, silent and loud, tender and violent, from motion to emotion. Ze vallen, ze staan weer op. Ze kruipen, rennen, rollen, lopen en verdwijnen. Een onzichtbare kracht trekt hen voort, van links naar rechts, naar onbekende plekken. SPRINGDANCE 2011 opent met een choreografisch hoogstandje. Vijftien topdansers van het Zwitserse gezelschap Alias, opgericht door de Braziliaan Guilherme Botelho, geven zich onvermoeibaar over aan een hypnotiserend groepswerk. Daarbinnen zijn het stuk voor stuk individuen opgaand in de stroom van het leven. Toegankelijk en tegelijkertijd complex verbeeldt Sideways Rain de oneindige evolutie van dier naar mens, als een beweging die er was, er is en er altijd zal zijn. Een voorstelling, zo magnifiek in haar eenvoud, dat je alleen maar meer wilt zien.

Een studio, in 1983. De befaamde Duitse choreograaf Gerhard Bohner werkt, nadat zijn ideeën voor een groepschoreografie zijn afgewezen, aan een solo. Met de reconstructie Schwarz Weiß Zeigen (Showing Black and White) doet de Spaanse Gelabert de minimalistische dans van dertig jaar geleden herleven. De rollen van de dansers worden, net als in 1983, ingenomen door een zwarte sculptuur en een levensgrote pop. Het worden mensen met wie Celabert zijn bewegingen deelt. In een zwart-witte wereld rakelt hij vol passie en virtuositeit het artistieke onderzoek van Bohner naar de essentie van beweging op.
They fall down, they get back up again. They crawl, run, roll, walk, and disappear. An invisible force is pulling them on, from left to right, to unknown places. SPRINGDANCE 2011 is opening with a choreographic tour de force. Fifteen top dancers from the Swiss company Alias, founded by the Brazilian Guilherme Botelho, tirelessly surrender to a mesmerising group piece. Within this framework they are each individuals wrapped up in the stream of life. Sideways Rain depicts the endless evolution from animal to man in an accessible, yet complex work, like a movement that is, that has been and always will be. A performance so magnificent in its simplicity that you will only want to see more.
A studio, in 1983. The renowned German choreographer Gerhard Bohner is demonstrating his steps to his dancers. His ideas for a group choreography have been rejected so he creates a solo. With his reconstruction Schwarz Weiß Zeigen (Showing Black and White), the Spanish Gelabert is resurrecting the minimalist dance of thirty years ago. The parts of the dancers have been taken, just as in 1983, by a black sculpture and a life-size doll. They become people with whom Celabert shares his movements. In a black and white world he passionately and masterfully rekindles Bohner’s research into the essence of movement.

SPRINGDANCE verwelkomt choreograaf Jonathan Burrows en componist Matteo Fargion terug op het toneel, deze keer met hun nieuwste double bill Cheap Lecture en The Cow Piece. Cheap Lecture is een ritmische gesproken performance op muziek waarin ze een tirade afsteken over lege handen, publiek, tijd, herhaling en dansen. Heen en weer laverend tussen filosofie en humor onthullen de twee kunstenaars in Cheap Lecture voorzichtig hoe ze te werk gaan, terwijl ze ons tegelijkertijd ook meeslepen in hun steeds onverwachtere zijsprongen. In The Cow Piece nemen ze ons mee naar de wildere regionen van hun fantasie terwijl ze verhalen verzinnen rondom 12 modelkoeien. Het resulteert in een chaotische meditatie op de dans, muziek en sterfelijkheid. Dit is een double-bill waarvan de geest gaat dansen. Choreographer Jonathan Burrows and composer Matteo Fargion make a welcome return to the stage at SPRINGDANCE with their latest double-bill Cheap Lecture and The Cow Piece. Cheap Lecture is a rhythmic spoken performance set to music in which they rant about empty hands, audience, time, repetition and dancing. Veering from the philosophical to the humorous and back, Cheap Lecture gently reveals how the two artists work while drawing us into ever more unexpected digressions. In The Cow Piece they take us into the wilder ranges of their imagination, while weaving stories around 12 model cows. The result is a chaotic meditation upon dance, music and mortality. This is a double-bill that will set the mind dancing.

De energieke Savion Glover debuteerde op zijn twaalfde op Broadway, werkte met de grootste dansers ter wereld en werd een Amerikaanse kinderheld door zijn rol in het Amerikaanse Sesamstraat. Hij is nog steeds jong, maar is inmiddels uitgegroeid tot een ware danslegende. In zijn virtuoze voorstellingen vindt hij de tapdans opnieuw uit en wil hij het ontdoen van zijn ouderwetse imago. Zijn trio brengt Caribische beats, hiphop, jazz en zelfs Bach tot leven. Glover spreekt met zijn lichaam en voeten en creÍert zo een verbindende roes tussen de dansers en het publiek. Streetwise en subliem staat hij garant voor een aanstekelijk spektakel. The energetic Savion Glover made his Broadway debut when he was twelve, has worked with some of the greatest dancers in the world, and became a children’s hero in the US thanks to his role on American Sesame Street. Still quite young, he is already a true dance legend. In his masterful performances he reinvents tap dance, intending to free it from its outmoded image. His trio brings to life Caribbean beats, hip hop, jazz, and even Bach. Expressing himself using his body and feet, Glover whirls both dancers and audience into a shared state of intoxication. Streetwise and sublime he guarantees an infectious performance.

Net voordat Hitler aan de macht kwam en het fascisme in alle hevigheid losbarstte ging de legendarische De Groene Tafel van Kurt Jooss in première. Deze voorstelling, met politici en diplomaten die met veel bombarie beslissingen over oorlogen namen, was een indrukwekkend manifest tegen de vernietigingsdrift van de mens. De Soto toont in deze lecture performance interviews met bezoekers en dansers van de anti-oorlog choreografie. Welke sporen liet de voorstelling achter, niet alleen in de geschiedenis, maar vooral in de herinneringen van de dansers en het publiek? Een voorstelling over een iconisch stuk uit de dansgeschiedenis, maar ook over de kracht en broosheid van het geheugen. Right before Hitler’s rise to power and the violent eruption of fascism, Kurt Jooss premiered his legendary performance The Green Table. This show, featuring politicians and diplomats noisily taking decisions about wars, was an impressive manifesto against the human urge for destruction. In this lecture performance De Soto presents interviews with those who visited or danced in this anti-war choreography. What kinds of traces has the performance left, not just in history, but especially in the memories of the dancers and the audience? A performance about an iconic piece of dance history, but also about the power and the frail nature of memory.

In 2009 was de Israëlische Yasmeen Godder al op SPRINGDANCE te zien met Singular Sensation. Dit jaar keert ze terug met het al even verontrustende storm end come. We volgen zes dansers op een onvoorspelbare reis. Ze worden aangetrokken door de mogelijkheid te verdwijnen in het collectief, maar tegelijkertijd zijn ze bang om hun eigen identiteit te verliezen. Er ontvouwt zich een grimmige wereld die om onderwerping vraagt. Via kleine climaxen bezweren de dansers de angst en proberen ze op intieme wijze hun eigen ‘ik’ te tonen. Met theatrale en fysiek heftige bewegingen creëert Godder een kwetsbare en heroïsche voorstelling vol onderhuidse spanningen. In 2009 the Israeli Yasmeen Godder presented her Singular Sensation at SPRINGDANCE. This year she will be returning with the equally disturbing storm end come. We follow six dancers on an unpredictable journey. They are drawn by the opportunity to disappear into the collective, but at the same time they are afraid of losing their own identity. A forbidding world unfolds that demands submission. Through a series of short climactic moments the dancers ward off their fears and make an intimate attempt to present their own ‘selves’. Using theatrical and physically fierce movements Godder creates a vulnerable and heroic performance brimming with hidden tension.

De Franse Julie Nioche droomt ervan te kunnen vliegen, verlangt ernaar gewichtloos te zijn. In Nos Solitudes probeert ze haar droom te vangen, maar dan blijken er ook scherpe randjes aan te zitten. In een installatie van touwen en gewichten zweeft een danser boven onze hoofden. Gewichtloos, lijkt het. Maar het volgende moment is de illusie verbroken en wordt langzaam duidelijk dat ook hij de zwaartekracht niet kan trotseren. Als een machteloze marionet worden zijn bewegingen gemanipuleerd en beperkt. Met het gitaarspel van Alexandre Mayer als metgezel valt hij en herrijst hij weer. Het resultaat is een intrigerende droomwereld die nog lang beklijft. The French Julie Nioche dreams of being able to fly; she longs for weightlessness. In Nos Solitudes she has tried to capture this dream, but the dream turns out to have some sharp edges to it. In an installation made with ropes and weights a dancer is suspended over our heads. Weightlessly, it seems. But the very next moment the enchantment is broken and it becomes clear that he, too, is unable to defy gravity. Like a powerless puppet his movements are being manipulated and constrained. With Alexandre Mayer’s guitar-playing for a companion he falls and rises, resulting in an intriguing dream world that will make a lasting impression.

De Israëlische choreograaf Emanuel Gat doet SPRINGDANCE voor het eerst aan en brengt gelijk twee voorstellingen met zich mee. In de kale omgeving van Silent Ballet vormen het geluid van de stilte en de dans een dynamische melodie. De acht dansers beginnen als losse onderdelen in de ruimte maar ontvouwen langzamerhand de logica van de beweging. Na dit groepsstuk volgt een uniek duet van Gat zelf met danser Roy Assaf. Zij lijken telepathisch met elkaar verbonden. In Winter Variations speelt muziek juist een cruciale rol. Mahler en The Beatles gaan de dialoog aan met deze complexe choreografie. In een intieme context wordt menselijk drama in een reeks van bewegingen gevat. The Israeli choreographer Emanuel Gat will be appearing at SPRINGDANCE for the first time, and he is bringing two performances. In the bare surroundings of his Silent Ballet the sound of silence and the dancing form a dynamic melody. The eight dancers start out as separate elements in the space but slowly begin to unfold the logic behind the movement. This group piece is followed by a duet danced by Gat himself with dancer Roy Assaf. They appear to have a telepathic connection. In Winter Variations music plays a crucial role, by contrast. Mahler and The Beatles engage in a dialogue with this complex choreography. In an intimate context, human drama is captured in a series of movements.

In 1986, de hele wereld was in de greep van aids, ging THEM in première in New York. THEM ging niet over letterlijk over aids, maar kon er in die tijd ook niet los van worden gezien. De reconstructie bekijken we nu met andere ogen, maar de zeggingskracht van de voorstelling is nog lang niet verouderd. De tekst van Dennis Cooper en de muziek van Chris Cochrane, beiden op het podium, stuwen de jonge mannelijke dansers op. Ze improviseren, verstrengelen zich in elkaar en worstelen met hun lichamen. Vierentwintig dansers, vijfentwintig bewegingen. De bewegingen worden als in een canon aan elkaar doorgegeven en in een continue stroom uitgevoerd. Maar er ontbreekt er altijd één. Zo vormen de talloze lichamen een ondoordringbaar ademend organisme. Vorig jaar stond de installatie expo zéro in SPRINGDANCE en dit jaar kunnen we wederom genieten van de eigenzinnige stijl van deze Franse choreograaf. Aan de ogenschijnlijke chaos ligt een ingenieus mathematisch principe ten grondslag dat zijn meditatieve uitwerking niet mist. We zien een levend sculptuur dat minimalistisch en tegelijk vol van leven is. Een energieke, hypnotiserende trance neemt bezit van de dansers én de toeschouwers.
In 1986, when the whole world was seized by fear of AIDS, THEM premiered in New York. THEM was not literally about AIDS, but at the time it was impossible to see it separately from it. We now view the reconstruction in a different light, but the show is certainly still as cogent as ever. Dennis Cooper’s text and the music by Chris Cochrane, both present on the stage, pushes the young male dancers on. They improvise, become entangled and struggle with their bodies. Death, loss and innocence all take turns in this disturbing yet poetic performance.
Twenty-four dancers, twenty-five movements. The movements are passed on as in a round and executed in a continuous stream. But there is always one missing. Thus the countless bodies form one impenetrable, breathing organism. Last year the installation expo zéro was part of the SPRINGDANCE programme, and this year you can once again enjoy this French choreographer’s idiosyncratic style. Underlying the apparent chaos is an ingenious mathematical principle that is bound to have a meditative effect. We see a living sculpture that is at the same time minimalist and full of life. An energetic, hypnotising trance seizes the dancers as well as the audience.

Van het jonge danscollectief Busy Rocks, opgericht door vijf oud-studenten van P.A.R.T.S, was in 2009 al een proeve op SPRINGDANCE te zien. Dit jaar keren ze terug met Studium. De lichamen zijn onlosmakelijk verbonden en gezamenlijk bewegen ze zich voort als één grote machine. Zeer precies, maar zonder doel of reden, vinden ze hun weg. Het publiek wordt uitgenodigd op hun lichamen in te zoomen om zo elk detail in zich op te nemen. Een ontwapenende voorstelling vol absurdisme en humor, gemaakt met veel aandacht en oog voor minutieuze details en compositie waardoor je je weerloos overgeeft.
Dieren vermommen zich, gaan op in hun omgeving of nemen een angstaanjagend danwel oninteressant uiterlijk aan. Zo proberen ze te overleven. Welke technieken gebruiken mensen in de sociale wildernis? We horen een verleidelijke en tegelijkertijd angstaanjagende stem die teksten uit internetspam prevelt. Een danseres, die opgaat in de ruimte maar ook contact probeert te maken. Onze blik bepaalt haar identiteit, maar we worden gemanipuleerd. Het atmosferische Soft Target toont hoe het hedendaagse spel met identiteiten het beeld van het ‘zelf’ ontwricht. Met deze gedetailleerde voorstelling neemt Guðjónsdóttir je mee op een hypnotiserende trip.
The young dance collective Busy Rocks, founded by five former students from P.A.R.T.S, presented a taste of their work at SPRINGDANCE 2009. This year they will be returning with Studium. Animals disguise themselves, blend into their environment, or take on either a frightening or an uninteresting appearance. This is how they try to survive. What techniques do humans use in the social wilderness? We hear a seductive and at the same time frightening voice murmuring texts taken from internet spam. A dancer, blending into the space while at the same time trying to make contact. Our gaze determines her identity, but we are being manipulated. The atmospheric Soft Target demonstrates how today’s play with identities disrupts the image of the ‘self’. With this detailed performance Guðjónsdóttir takes you on a mesmerising trip.

Een beweging verdwijnt, een nieuwe ontrolt zich tegelijkertijd voor de ogen van het publiek. Ongrijpbaar, maar vol zeggingskracht. De kleinste impuls van het lichaam houdt een grote belofte voor de volgende actie in. Zo trekt Unmüßig de toeschouwer van Ast im Auge (Branch in the Eye) langzaam binnen in een ingenieus spel waarin de tijd verdwijnt. Aandacht en concentratie is wat er ongemerkt over blijft. The young German choreographer Jana Unmüßig is fascinated with the visible and the invisible. Like a Turkish rug with its tucked-away ends, Unmüßig weaves her choreographies together. Five dancers are moving. One movement disappears, while another one unfolds before the audience’s eyes. Intangibly, yet with great power of expression. The tiniest impulse from the body holds great promise for the next action. And so Unmüßig slowly draws the spectator of Ast im Auge (Branch in the Eye) into an ingenious game in which time slips away, imperceptibly leaving him only rapt and concentrated.

The Japanese group Contact Gonzo has given a completely new meaning to the words contact improvisation. They give a little push here and there and climb on top of each other. Then, things start to escalate. The boundaries between reality and fiction are blurred, and we witness an impressive live event. Accompanied by a restless drum solo they physically engage each other, drawing strength and enjoyment from their bodies. Full of adrenalin they try to get a grip on the world. They create a raw reality that produces an intense and unforgettable experience in the audience.

Ze zet al haar verbeeldingskracht, en de rondingen van haar lichaam, in om de harten van het publiek te veroveren. Komisch en treurig, met een mix van dans, zang en tekst heeft de jonge Eugénie Rebetez een humorvolle eerste voorstelling gecreëerd. Gina oogt luchtig, maar langzaamaan zien we het gevecht dat ze aangaat met haar angsten en illusies. Ze is niemand, ze is alleen, maar met de ogen van het publiek op haar gericht, voelt ze dat ze leeft. Gina is a diva who longs for the spotlights and dreams of a life filled with applause. So she enters the stage with charm and a sense of humour. He uses all her imaginative powers, and the curves of her body, to conquer the hearts of her audiences. Comical and sad, with a mix of songs, dance, and text, the young Eugénie Rebetez has created a first performance full of laughter. Ze worden daarbij begeleid door de Britse choreograaf Jonathan Burrows en programmeur Cosmin Costinas van BAK, basis voor actuele kunst uit Utrecht. Daarnaast tonen ze hun eigen werk! In korte tijd ben je helemaal op de hoogte van het soort werk dat je op SPRINGDANCE 2011 tegenkomt en krijg je bovendien extra informatie over een aantal voorstellingen. Voor iedereen die meer wil weten en zich even volledig in de dans wil onderdompelen.

Deze Salons zijn onderdeel van het Festival Creative Fellowship. De huidige theoretische ontwikkelingen worden verbonden aan de hedendaagse danspraktijk en zo wordt er kennis gedeeld en gegenereerd. Dit jaar is het thema: Hired Bodies & Dancing Nomads. In januari en februari vonden Salon I en II al plaats. In de laatste Salon, op 24 maart, staat de danstraining en -educatie centraal. Wat voor implicaties heeft de nomadische ontwikkeling op de danseducatie? Op welke manier is danseducatie zelf onderdeel van de nomadische structuur van het dansveld? Te gast zijn Gabriel Smeets (directeur School voor Nieuwe Dans Ontwikkeling), en choreografen Anouk van Dijk en Fabian Barba (Busy Rocks).
De Amerikaanse danswetenschapper, choreograaf en danser Susan L. Foster is dit jaar Festival Creative Fellow. Tijdens het festival geeft ze een serie lezingen waarbij ze op interessante wijze een aantal voorstellingen uit het festival bespreekt in relatie tot haar theorie over the hired body. Het Festival Creative Fellowship is een samenwerking met Centre for the Humanities en het Media & Performance programma van de Universiteit Utrecht. Susan L. Foster is hoogleraar Choreography, History and Theories of the Body aan de Faculteit World Arts & Cultures van de University of California in Los Angeles. De lezingen van Susan L. Foster grijpen terug op haar theorie over de hired body, en stellen dat het gehuurde lichaam zich heeft vertakt in drie nieuwe typen lichaam – het balletlichaam, het industriële lichaam en het losgelaten lichaam. Tegenover deze nieuwe dominante vormen van training en produceren staat iets dat zij the re-grooved body noemt, een lichaam zonder vaste routine, dat zichtbaar wordt in de pogingen wereldwijd om een reeks danstradities opnieuw uit te vinden en in de veelheid aan variaties en soorten dans.

The American dance dramaturge, choreographer and dancer Susan L. Foster will be this year’s Festival Creative Fellow. Opposing these new dominant forms of training and production is something she calls the re-grooved body, evident in attempts world-wide to reinvent various dance traditions and in the proliferation of different varieties of dancing.

Het Zwitserse dansgezelschap Alias opent niet alleen het festival (zie p. 7), maar geeft ook een dansworkshop voor leerlingen uit het voortgezet onderwijs en voor dansamateurs uit Utrecht. Op het podium van de Stadsschouwburg, waar het gezelschap ’s avonds zelf optreedt, leren ze enkele dansfrases uit de voorstelling aan. Twee dansers van het gezelschap zijn erbij en delen hun ervaringen met Sideways Rain.
Waar dans is, zijn woorden. Er wordt in woorden over dans gepraat en in woorden over dans geschreven. In samenwerking met Domein voor Kunstkritiek en Theater Instituut Nederland zoekt Springdance ook dit jaar weer naar nieuwe manieren om in woorden op kunst te reflecteren. Jonge dansdramaturgen en theaterwetenschappers, onder hen de genomineerden voor de TIN scriptieprijs, volgen een masterclass onder leiding van Xandra Schutte (hoofdredacteur De Groene Amsterdammer), bezoeken voorstellingen en ontmoeten makers. De Japanse groep Contact Gonzo staat bekend om hun krachtige straatperformances. Ze maken gebruik van de straat en elkaar om een rauwe werkelijkheid te tonen waarin geweld niet altijd geschuwd wordt. Een heftige, intense, maar onvergetelijke happening. Tijdens SPRINGDANCE 2011 duiken de jongens op onverwachte plekken op in de stad. Where there is dance, there are words. Words are used to talk and write about dance. In collaboration with Domein voor Kunstkritiek (Domain for Art Criticism) and Theatre Institute Netherlands, Springdance is once again going in search of new ways of reflecting on art and to describe art. A number of young dance dramaturges and theatre scholars, among them the nominees for the TIN thesis prize, will be attending a masterclass led by Xandra Schutte (Groene Amsterdammer), visiting performances and meeting with the artists. The Japanese group Contact Gonzo is well-known for its powerful street performances. Using the street and each other they present a raw reality where violence is not always shunned. A fierce, intense, but unforgettable happening. During SPRINGDANCE 2011 the boys will surface in unexpected places around the city. The Swiss dance company Alias is not only opening this year’s festival (see p. 7), but is also hosting a dance workshop for secondary school students and for amateur dancers from Utrecht. On the Stadsschouwburg stage, where the company will be performing that night, you will learn a few phrases from the performance. Two of the company’s dancers will be present and share their experiences on Sideways Rain.

Een festival is niet compleet zonder feestjes. De opening van SPRINGDANCE 2011 wordt uiteraard uitgebreid gevierd. Dus kom op donderdag 14 april naar de Stadsschouwburg om te dansen en te feesten op de deunen van DJ Johnny Stardust. Het festival wordt op zaterdag 23 april in de Stadsschouwburg afgesloten met een feestelijke afterparty waar je de dansvloer deelt met de dansers van Boris Charmatz. Ook hier met DJ Johnny Stardust. Iedereen is welkom! No festival would be complete without a party or two. Of course we will celebrate the opening night of SPRINGDANCE 2011 in style. So come to the Stadsschouwburg on Thursday 14 April to party and dance to the groove laid down by DJ Johnny Stardust. The festival will be concluded at the Stadsschouwburg on Saturday 23 April with a festive afterparty where you will be sharing the dance floor with Boris Charmatz’s dancers. Het programma bevat een drietal presentaties van eigenzinnige sprekers die eens niet uit het dansveld komen (o.a. PvdA politica Jetta Klijnsma), met borrel na afloop. Raak bewogen en ontmoet je vakgenoten uit de stad. Aanvang 15.00 uur. ESTAFETTE is een digitaal uitwisselingsproject van dansorganisaties uit verschillende maar verglijkbare Europese steden, gelegen op de Noord-Zuidlijn en de Oost-Westlijn van Europa. Helsinki – Malmö – Utrecht – Malaga en Stuttgart – Gent – Utrecht – Edinburgh ontvouwen via het web hun werk en hun stad en maken samen een dansvideo. ESTAFETTE biedt een podium, ruimte voor expositie en ruimte voor het creëren van nieuw danswerk. Een uitwisseling en digitale ontmoeting zonder grenzen tussen verschillende Europese culturen. An inspirational meeting for dance professionals from Utrecht, set up in collaboration with the Utrecht-based youth dance company De Dansers. ESTAFETTE is a digital exchange project set up by organisations from different but similar European cities, located on the North-South line and the East-Westline of Europe. De Istanbul-Europe Express heeft tot doel het artistieke netwerk tussen Turkije en de rest van Europa te ontwikkelen. De focus van het project ligt op de Balkan. Springdance is partner van het project. Het project wordt gerealiseerd in samenwerking met IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts) (BE), Relais Culture Europe (FR), Bunker (SI), TIN (Theater Instituut Nederland) en Springdance. De partners in dit project houden een bijeenkomst op vrijdag 22 april. The aim of the Istanbul-Europe Express is to develop the artistic network between Turkey and the rest of Europe. The focus of this project lies in the Balkans. Springdance is a partner in the project and will be organising an exchange programme during the festival for dance professionals from Turkey and other European countries.
