ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES

The University of Idaho’s commitment to academics in its athletic program continued with the remodel and addition of new Vandal Academic Rooms in the fall of 2008.

At the student-athletes’ disposal are a new 120seat classroom, five small group study areas, and two computer labs with 35 computer stations.

The University of Idaho strives for excellence on the playing field andd in the classroom. The Academic Support Services staff has taken great at care to ensure each student-athlete at Idaho understands that academics cs are just as important as athletics, and they are expected to excel in both.

“The University of Idaho is steeped in a rich academic tradition,,” ur Director of Athletics Rob Spear said. “Our mission in athletics is for our student-athletes to continue to excel in the classroom and in their chosenn fields upon graduation.”

COMMITMENT TO ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE To support the academic progress of the student-athlete toward intellectual development and graduation.

When compared to the entire student population, the Vandal athleticc teams have higher graduation rates. re What may be even more impressive than Idaho’s graduation rates are its grade-point-averages (GPAs). Here are some of the highlights (as of Fall ‘08): • 11 of 14 teams earned a 3.0 GPA or higher • Eight teams earned a 3.2 GPA or higher • Women’s golf led all athletic teams with a 3.9 GPA or • The average GPA for all student-athletes was 3.19 and increased for the fifth-consecutive semester “We sincerely believe our academic support system, combined with thee exceptional instruction in the classroom, provide the tools for success too d. the young men and young women who graduate from Idaho,” Spear said. The University of Idaho is a member of the NCAA CHAMPS Life Skills ls Program. Director of Athletics Rob Spear teaches the class to incomingg freshmen every fall.
