Outlook: The Hornets graduated six seniors and will look for their juniors to fill the leadership void during a rebuilding year. Johnston, Harder, Gaudette and Benson have state meet experience. Coach’s comment: “Our hope is that with such a young team we will be able to help each skier focus on their strengths and grow throughout the season.” — Coach Jacob Johnston

Ashley Pratt, Corinne Rabon. Outlook: With more than 40 skiers, the Hornets have plenty of talent and depth to make a run in the KVAC and Class A. Wiegman is the defending state classical champion and will be looking for Chase and Labbe to take over for Knowlton and McGray as top-10caliber scorers. The boys have all but one racer back and welcome a large freshman class. Coach’s comment: “This is one of the largest teams we’ve ever had. Key losses: Victoria Ebsworth, Samantha Hatch, Mimi Baumhoff. Promising newcomers: Boys: Freshmen — Finn Williamson, Todd Gustaitis; Girls: Freshmen — McKayla Ivey, Taylor Pullen, Ellie Bessette, Tayla Roberts. Outlook: All of the Vikings’ returners skied at states last year, with Michaud and Stauder posting top-10 finishes. The veterans will need more strong performances as the newcomers take time to develop.
