Key losses: Jillian Perron (center), Liz Leclair (guard), Lindsey St. Laurent (forward). Promising newcomers: Junior — Cherokee Clements (5-2 guard); Sophomore — Kiana Thompson (5-5 guard); Freshman — Addie Brinkman (5-10 center/forward). Out look : T he Couga r s were a you ng , promising team last year and made some progress in Eastern A. Mt. Blue hopes to take another step up this season. The Cougars graduated starters Perron and Leclair, but return a solid group of upperclassmen, including eight juniors. Philbrook hopes that added seasoning will lead to more consistent play and some strong finishes in close games. Coach’s comment: “We have worked real

Outlook: Although numbers are down a bit, the Cougars hope to take the next step from regional to state champions. The roster is strong up to 170, with Newbill, Moore, Hyde and Blanchet all placing in the top four at states last year and Ingram a state qualifier. Metcalf and Newbill have placed at states twice. Craig will be one of the top freshmen in the state, while Stuard returns after moving away for a year. Coach’s comment: “We’d love to w in another regional title, and I think with the lineup we have, we’re looking at a strong run for a state title.” — Coach Bob O’Connor

hard to get to the next level. Hopefully the hard work will pay off.” — Coach Tom Philbrick

Nordstrom, Sarah Wade. Key losses: Hannah Allen, Brody Hines. Promising newcomers : Boys: Junior — Sully Jackson; Sophomore — Ike Doiron; Freshman — Sam McIntosh. Girls: Freshman — Leah Hardy. Outlook: One key skier from the boys’ squad and another from the girls’ team graduated, but the teams’ depth remains, particularly on the girls’ side, where a large group of seniors will look to replicate last season’s results in their final high school season. The boys’ team is big, with a lot of newcomers. But like the girls, the boys have a lot of talent in those numbers. With Fryeburg back in Class B, the A field is wide ooen and ripe for

the picking. Coach’s comment: “The outlook for the girls is good, but the competition looks good, too. The boys’ team is hard to predict. It could be a building year, but there is an outside chance

for a perfect storm of talent and motivation to produce a truly astonishing package.” — Coach David Nordstrom

Girls: 3rd at Class A states Returning skiers: Boys: Seniors — North Kay, Alex Chandler; Sophomore — Eli Cohen. Girls: Seniors — Heather Farrington, Abby Ellis; Juniors — Katie Lewis, Hannah Gibson; Sophomore — Mallory Parker. Key losses: Eliza Richard, Tim Andrews. Promising newcomers: Boys: Senior — Lucas Bonnevie; Freshmen — Felix Bonnevie, Max Kay, Anthony Franchetti. Girls: Freshmen — Eryn Hiscock, Becky Close.

Out look : Ha s t here ever been a yea r when the Cougars aren’t considered title contenders? The short answer is no. With only one major piece of the puzzle gone from each squad, both the boys and girls are look ing as strong as ever. The elder Bonnevie’s return from CVA will be a big boost, and the girls have a strong returning core, as well. After a year with shady depth, the team is once again picking up numbers and should be deeper than a year ago.

Coach’s comment: ”Bot h t he boys and the girls, h i stor ic a l ly, have a lways had dept h. If we have one skier fall, we have a fifth or sixth skier right there to pick them up. I think we have that again this year.” — Coach Mark Cyr
