Air Cargo Is Airborne / LivreR la marchandise Trans-Canada Air Lines’ Aircargo (today, Air Canada Cargo) was one of the world’s first dedicated freight carriers to take to the air, in the spring of 1948. It was the beginning of the Air Cargo Age, an exciting time as Canadians acquired a taste for exotic, fresh-flown items, like seafood from Vancouver or Florida oranges. That year alone, TCA’s passenger and cargo fleets flew a combined 5.9 million pounds of mail and 4.3 million pounds of goods. Parmi les toutes premières compagnies de vols cargo, la branche Aircargo des Lignes aériennes Trans-Canada (aujourd’hui Air Canada Cargo) a pris son envol au printemps 1948. C’étaient les débuts du fret aérien : pour la première fois, les Canadiens, où qu’ils fussent, pouvaient goûter des poissons et fruits de mer frais de Vancouver ou des oranges de la Floride, entre autres produits exotiques. Cette année-là, les appareils de TCA ont transporté 2675 t de courrier et 1950 t de marchandises.
