Volar, un sueño / The Dream of Flight Hay cosas que no se pueden describir con palabras y, probablemente, la sensación de volar en avión sea una de ellas. En nuestros días, cuando viajar en avión es una experiencia cada vez más integrada a la vida cotidiana de las personas, quizás son pocos los que se han detenido a reflexionar sobre el tema. Pero… ¿qué nos pasa, qué sentimos cuando estamos arriba de un avión encumbrados entre las nubes y con la inmensidad del cielo a nuestro alcance? ¿Qué tan sorprendente es para nosotros mirar el mundo desde otra perspectiva, sin tener los pies anclados en la tierra como estamos acostumbrados? En la literatura universal, la idea del vuelo ha aparecido recurrentemente como metáfora de la libertad, de la liberación, de la ingravidez. ¿Se han preguntado alguna vez hasta dónde llegarían si pudieran volar como un águila? Quizás esta pregunta sea un buen ejercicio para ahondar en nuestra propia existencia. Por mi parte, siento que volar en avión es como soñar despiertos, una sensación sublime que cada cual siente y vive de manera distinta, pero que a la vez nos recuerda que somos seres humanos. Sabemos que cada vuelo tiene un sentido distinto para usted y es por eso que procuramos brindarle la mejor “experiencia de viaje”, independiente de su destino o del asiento que ocupe dentro del avión. Sabemos que estamos transportando sueños y proyectos, llenos de inquietudes y sentimientos. Es por ello que nos preocupamos -y ocupamos- de que se sienta seguro, cómodo, entretenido y sobre todo querido en cada uno de nuestros vuelos. Queremos que su viaje sea una experiencia cercana e inolvidable. Detrás de esta compañía hay también muchos sueños, los mismos que nos llevan a volar cada vez más alto. Hay también pasión por lo que hacemos y todo un equipo humano comprometido con su bienestar, tanto en tierra como en las alturas. Todos los avances que hemos incorporado van en esa dirección; me refiero a la tecnología de vanguardia con que operamos, al desarrollo de una red de rutas cada vez más amplia, al interés por brindar el mejor servicio, entre otras muchas cosas. En esta línea, y con sentida emoción, me permito anunciarles que a fines de septiembre llegará a LAN el primer Boeing 787 (también conocido como Dreamliner), el avión más moderno del mundo en su tipo, de un total de 32 que se irán integrando a nuestra flota en los próximos años. Emoción y orgullo, porque la llegada de estos aviones de última generación a nuestra compañía significa que estamos plenamente capacitados para abordar este desafío desde un punto de vista financiero, técnico y humano. Estimados pasajeros: los invito a dejar volar la imaginación y a disfrutar de esta experiencia de viaje como si fuera un sueño. Con libertad, con confianza y con sentido de trascendencia. Some things simply cannot be described in words, and flying is almost certainly one of them. And at a time when traveling by plane is an increasingly common experience, it seems that few people pause to reflect on the phenomenon. What do we feel when we are aboard an airplane, soaring among the clouds and with the endless expanse of the sky within our reach? When we can marvel at the world from another perspective, without the shackles of gravity to which we are so accustomed? In literature, the theme of flight has been used time and again as a metaphor for freedom, for liberation, for weightlessness. Have you ever wondered where you would go if you could fly like an eagle? Perhaps this question offers a useful exercise for contemplating our own existence. Personally, I feel that flying in an airplane is a waking dream, a sublime sensation that each of us experiences in our own way, but which also reminds us that we are human. We know that each flight has a different meaning for you, and so we strive to provide the best possible “travel experience,” regardless of your destination or your seat on the aircraft. We know that we are transporting dreams and projects, full of concerns and feelings. That’s why we take care to ensure that you feel safe, comfortable, entertained and, above all, cared for on every one of our flights. We want your flight to be a warm and unforgettable experience. Our company also has many dreams, the same ones that push us to fly higher and higher. And we are driven by a passion for what we do, with a team committed to your wellbeing, both on the ground and in the skies. All the advances that we’ve made are with this objective in mind, from the state-of-theart technology that we employ, to the development of an increasingly extensive route network, to our abiding interest in offering the best possible service, among so many other things. With this in mind, I’m thrilled to announce that, at the end of September, LAN will receive its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the most modern aircraft of its kind in the world and one of a total of 32 that will be added to our fleet over the next few years. We are moved and very proud, because the arrival of these next-generation aircraft means that our company is fully equipped to meet this challenge from a financial, technical and human perspective. Dear passengers, I invite you to let your imaginations soar and to enjoy the experience of flight as though it were a dream, with a sense of freedom, confidence and transcendence.
