Dr. Daniel Akin is the sixth president of Southeastern and is perhaps best known as a standard-bearer among evangelicals for expositional preaching. He is the author or editor of a number of books, including two major commentaries and a theology textbook, A Theology for the Church.

From the President Dear Future Student: I do not mind telling you, right from the very beginning, that Southeastern is a dangerous place to attend college. It is dangerous because we will challenge you-I will challenge you-to consider afresh your calling and what it is God wants you to do for his kingdom and his glory. At Southeastern we do not primarily ask, “Why should I go carry the gospel to the nations?” Rather, we ask, “Why should I stay in my homeland when there are so many who have not heard?” That does not mean we believe eveyone is called to the international mission field. But many are, and all of our students, in every major, will be encouraged to think globally about their faith and their ministry, whatever their chosen vocation. Whatever God chooses for you to do, we would welcome you to study in Wake Forest with us. Southeastern features programs designed to strengthen and equip the future leaders of Christ’s church. If your plan is to cruise through your degree program and get a cushy job in a comfortable place where there are no challenges or hardship, perhaps you had better think again. Academics & faculty The College at Southeastern offers an education that is undergirded and shaped by the biblical narrative. We study and interact with a world that was created good by God, fragmented and distorted by sin, redeemed by Christ and will one day be fully under his reign. Every College at Southeastern student pursuing a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree will complete a core curriculum which includes vital training in biblical studies, Christian worldview, world history, theology, and English. Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program will complete a minor in Christian studies in addition to their selected major. The Associate of Arts Degree is a 66 credit hour College program. The primary purpose of the program is to equip students with a healthy understanding of a Christian worldview and why this matters in the world in which we live. Students who complete this program are better prepared to: 1) participate in lay leadership in the local church, 2) enter into the business world, and/or 3) continue on a degree path at Southeastern. In addition, the degree is designed as a two-year college transfer program and can help equip students to navigate the philosophies of our culture as they pursue a college degree not offered at Southeastern. Students should consult the institution to which they intend to transfer in order to determine admission and transfer requirements.

Both the Associate of Arts and Associate of Divinity degrees may be completed entirely online. For the Bachelor of Arts, students may take up to 60 hours online towards their degree, may even combine online classes with extension classes, hybrid classes, and break intensives to complete their requirements.

What are course formats for Distance learning at Southeastern? ONLINE COURSES Innovative online classes include engaging lectures and interaction through threaded discussions and live class meetings. You will receive the same content as our on-campus classes, but in a way that is accessible and convenient for your schedule. At Southeastern, every classroom is a Great Commission classroom, whether it is online or on campus. Our online classes will challenge you to have a heart for the nations and equip you to better serve in ministry.

HYBRID COURSES Distance students often desire to know their fellow students and professors. Online classes provide ways to do this well. However, in order to keep the convenience of online classes and increase student interaction with classmates and professors, Southeastern launched the first-ever hybrid class in the Spring of 2009. These classes utilize online lectures and assignments, along with oncampus class time. For one weekend of the semester, students come for Friday and Saturday class meetings to provide a way to interact with other students and professors.

EXTENSION CENTERS The same excellent faculty and adjunct professors teach on our main campus and at our extension centers. You will receive the same world-class education in a more convenient way. Southeastern operates several extension centers throughout the southeastern United States. Core classes and track requirements are offered at these centers and can be applied towards a Masters or Undergraduate degree. Extension center classes can be combined with online, hybrid, or 5 day break classes in order to earn your degree.

WHAT DEGREE SHOULD IMB PERSONNEL PURSUE? There are three Masterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s degrees recommended for IMB personnel, and each degree is available completely online. These degrees are the Master of Divinity in International Church Planting, the Master of Arts in Church Planting, and the Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies. The Master of Arts in International Studies is available through the College at Southeastern. These Masterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s degrees have been designed with IMB service requirements in mind and prepare students for overseas service. Paying for college A college degree is a major investment, and Southeastern is true to our Southern Baptist heritage in striving to make theological education accessible to any student, regardless of income level. We do not want any graduate of Southeastern to leave here laden with debt.

SBC FUNDING The Southern Baptist Cooperative Program is vitally important to us. Because of Southern Baptistsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; faithful giving through the Cooperative Program, Southeastern offers a world-class education at a fraction of the cost of comparable schools.

Scholarships Southeastern offers financial aid in a variety of areas. Our Financial Aid Office offers merit and need-based scholarships and can point students to a number of scholarships offered by churches, states, associations and private organizations. General scholarship applications must be received between March 1 and April 15 for the fall semester and October 1 and November 15 for the spring semester in order to qualify. Facts Payment Plan The FACTS Monthly Tuition Payment Plan is provided for students to be able to pay their current tuition and matriculation fees over the course of that semester. The FACTS Plan is to be used only for current semester tuition and matriculation fees. This plan is not to be used for paying off past balances, future balances, housing fees or used as a semester loan. You must sign up for the FACTS plan each semester by the appropriate deadlines if you desire to use the plan. FACTS specifies the date each payment will occur, but it is your financial institution that determines the time of day the payment is debited. FACTS recommends you check with your financial institution to determine how far in advance funds should be deposited into your account to ensure the automatic payment clears. Housing We want all of our students to feel at home while they study at Southeastern, so our housing communities offer clean, affordable, well-appointed and safe apartment and townhome-style living for families and singles. We even offer some animal-friendly apartments for those bringing pets while attending Southeastern. While a student here, Southeastern is not just a place to go to school. It is your home. Our campus housing communities are just that-communities -where you will always find friendly neighbors and the opportunity for an engaging chat. All of our campus housing is located within a mile and a half of the main campus.

Availability Students living in campus housing can often save $200.00 or more a month compared to most area apartment communities. Many of our housing communities have been built in the past few years, and those that are older have been kept in great shape. With a maintenance staff on call and security monitoring available 24 hours a day, you will always have peace of mind living in seminary housing. You will also find an online application and downloadable copies of standard forms, as well as online copies of updated rate sheets and important housing policies. Our housing director and his staff are ready to assist you in any way possible.

Options For those who prefer to live off campus, housing opportunities are available as well. Wake Forest and nearby communities offer affordable apartments to fit almost any budget. Realtors can assist those looking to purchase a home in the area. Because Wake County and surrounding counties are booming, new single-family, townhome and apartment developments are being developed year-round. Be sure to schedule some time to drive around during your campus visit.

Residence Life The purpose of Residence Life is to develop Christian leaders and to assist students in their spiritual formation by providing opportunities for academic, social, spiritual and personal growth. Wom en’ s Life Women’s Life aims to serve the women of Southeastern and the local church by encouraging them to live according to God’s design as established in his Word. Our purpose is to prepare women for ministry in their homes, churches and communities so that they will be better equipped to fulfill the Great Commission. We offer various opportunities for women to be involved on many levels of learning and growing during their time at Southeastern.

Biblical Women’s INstitute Want to be equipped to minister to others in your home as well as in your church or other ministry settings? The Biblical Women’s Institute (BWI) offers nondegree programs comprised of courses that are both practical and personally enriching. There are no prerequisites to enter the program. A majority of women in the program are seminary wives, but all women are encouraged to take courses. Also, we have developed a program for women who are planning to serve overseas alongside their husbands who are in the International Church Planting program.

Connecting Point Connecting Point is where all women of The College at Southeastern and Southeastern Seminary can connect and grow together. The main purpose of Connecting Point is to foster spiritual maturity and a better sense of community so that women will be encouraged and challenged as they prepare for ministry.

Biblical Foundations for the Minister’s Wife Dr. and Mrs. Danny Akin team up with several other relevant guest speakers to teach this class, which provides a survey of practical issues faced by ministers’ wives. It is offered free of charge. Class topics include marriage, raising godly, children, ministering in your home, counseling women and other areas related to being a minister’s wife.

Student Life CHAPEL Our twice-weekly regular chapel services are the heart and soul of campus life. The singing and preaching serve to encourage students, faculty and staff as we worship Christ together. In addition to our own faculty and president, guest speakers regularly fill the Binkley Chapel pulpit. Chapel is held every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. during the fall and spring semesters. The public is always welcome, and prospective students are especially encouraged to attend.

Students and families flock to our outdoor barbecues twice a year, which feature bounce houses for kids, games, time to visit with friends and make new ones and lots of free food. Coffee nights, held regularly throughout the semester, offer students a chance to relax from their studies. Our Student Life team sets up the big screen in the Ledford Student Center to host football and basketball playoff parties. Ministry REferral Southeasternâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Ministry Referral Office stands ready to connect churches with ministers and ministers with churches. Students can submit their resumes to this office if they are interested in supply-preaching, interim preaching opportunities, church staff positions, and more. Ministry Referral will then assist students to find churches in need of help, making Southeastern a vital link between the ministers and the churches they serve.

Ledford Center With spaces to eat, read, shop or relax, the Ledford Student Center is the hub of social life at Southeastern. You will definitely want to visit The Court, which features vintage photographs to classic brickwork. Every detail of The Court invites you to relax and unwind with coffee or a sandwich. Wireless internet access is available. You can also stop by The Locker, which sells all things Southeastern, or the LifeWay Campus Store for your textbooks. Students and their families can take advantage of our fitness facilities, including rooms dedicated to free weights, weight machines and cardiovascular fitness. Ledford also offers racquetball courts and the Cannon gymnasium for basketball.

Conferences Southeastern is committed to providing experiences outside of the classroom that encourage lifelong learning and dedication to ministry excellence. Our conferences are a part of that strategy. Throughout the year, Southeastern hosts the 20/20 Collegiate Conference, 9Marks at Southeastern and others, which attract people from across the Triangle and around the Nation to our campus. Southeastern students can attend this conference for a reduced rate. Speakers have included evangelical leaders like Matt Carter, Matt Chandler, J.D. Greear, Darrin Patrick, David Platt and our own president Daniel Akin.

Pursue more SPURGEON CENTER The Spurgeon Center exists to equip and encourage pastors to lead healthy disciple-making churches for the glory of God around the world. A close-knit community with a world of opportunity just minutes away, Wake Forest and the Triangle area offer something for everyone. Wake Forest is a unique opportunity with a thriving downtown, where you can walk just about anywhere to shop, eat, have coffee, or simply visit. Wake Forest was born as a college town and for more than a century the town and the college have grown up together with intertwined histories. The original 1830s campus, called Wake Forest College, has changed owners and names, but remains a geographical focus of the community that has grown around it. Historic homes, some nearly 200 years old, decorate the downtown streets surrounding Southeastern’s campus and give the town a genuine neighborhood feel. The downtown streets feature coffee and tea shops, specialty boutiques, restaurants, and much more. While proud of its history, Wake Forest is also a town of the future.
