The student literary magazine Journey recently received first place in the Southern Literary Festival competition.

Political science prepares you for careers in law, business, government, politics, etc. Each year approximately 30 students from a variety of majors around the University travel to Washington, D.C. to conference with some of the nation’s top scholars at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Students work with government personnel, including the likes of Sam Nunn and Henry Kissinger, and discuss global policies.

Global cultures and languages students travel and study worldwide in two-week, semester and year-long programs in places such as Costa Rica, Ecuador, France, Germany or Spain. They also take advantage of internship opportunities locally and abroad. With increasing globalization, a foreign language can improve your chances for employment. Surveys indicate that oral and communication skills are a high priority for employers in today’s workplace. Gain these skills in communication studies and corporate communications through courses in debate, public speaking and interpersonal communication, as well as leadership and team building. Seek individual or group help in the Oral Communication Across the Curriculum Center.
Writing is important! The Center for Writing Excellence staff help you analyze and improve your paper for grammar, citations and clarity. They will not write a paper for you, but will work with what you have written to improve your paper. Input is possible face-to-face or via email.

Psi Chi, the national honor society for psychology, and the Psychology Club co-sponsor the popular annual Student Research Conference during which students across campus display their scholarly endeavors. Philosophy majors study the texts and traditions that define Western thought and analyze contemporary problems in cognitive science, legal theory and applied ethics. Students majoring in philosophy have a nearly 100 percent acceptance rate to graduate and law school.

Our pre-law program provides a comprehensive foundation to study law. During the last five years, Southeast’s pre-law students have exceeded the national average on the LSAT, and their placement rate in law school approaches 100 percent.
Our students make politics come alive by working on political campaigns and by serving as interns in the German government and with the White House Press Corps.
