COLONY
Penguins live in large groups called colonies or rookeries
CONSERVATION
The yellow-eyed penguin is the rarest of all the species, with an approximate number of 5,000 birds (found in New Zealand)
DIVING
Penguins can hold their breath for up to 20 minutes underwater
EVOLUTION
Penguins are one of the rare species of living (non-extinct) birds which are flightless- their wings have now evolved into flippers for swimming
HABITAT
Penguin species can be found in South America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica
PLUMAGE
When penguins are (rarely) born with brown feathers as opposed to black, they are known as isabelline penguins
SCALE
The emperor penguin is the largest/heaviest at 90 pounds, the little (blue) is the smallest/lightest at 2 pounds

SPECIES
