Jeans

Jeans, everybody wears it which is quite amazing. I did some research about this phenomenon. From histroy till every little detail that makes jeans unique and suitable for every use. We have always been hard workers. That is one of the reasons Levi’s and other jeans manufacturors made and changed jeans the way they are today. But are these changes enough? Are jeans still suitable for the work we do now? Or has jeans become more of a fashionable product?

We still are hard workers, but our tools are completely different. Cellphones, laptops, business cards, I-pods, etc are of everyday use. I combined the practical workwear we know from 1886 with the things we use and carry nowadays to create unisex workwear that suits ...............

Shirt Shirt

Start & inspiration

The shirt is a symbolic piece of clothing. Through the years its look and meaning have been changed. The shirt that caught my attention is actually the one almost everyone ownes; the shirt you wear to work. Most of the time combined with a fit suit. Everyday this is shirt is worn by people working 9 to 5 at the office. It is symbolic for these people. Even after 5 it seems they don’t stop working and so does the shirt. People get overworked and the shirt overworn. How can I contribute in this way of working and wearing in a positive way?

Overworked people are most probably suffering from stress. Stress has many consequences for you mentally as physically. Most common and direct signs are pain in the back, neck, shoulder, belly and headaches.

&

I combined the shirt and the stress into a new shirt that gives the stressful shirt a more positive and personal twist.

Burda & the Mods

Start & inspiration Startingpoint of this collection are two different types of inspiration: A 1973 trenchcoat taken from the Burda & the Mods who played a big role in British youth culture late 60’s and 70’s. I combined the trenchcoat with one of the most important clothing pieces of a Mod: the parka.

&

Detail was what a Mod was all about and that is how you regocnize one. I researched these details from head to toe. The polo has to be Fred Perry, jeans are Levi’s, suits are custommade with 3-inch cuffs, camel colored Clarks, green M-51 parka used in the Vietnam war.

Silhouette try-outs

Moulage I started off with the Burda trenchcoat by playing with the silhouet with the parka in mind. How far can I go with changing the silhouet? Then I took the trenchcoat and extended details while creating a new silhouet.

Moulage Taking the trenchcoat as a basis, I tried to transform the trenchcoat into a parka by adding parka details onto the trenchcoat.

Textile samples The textiles I made for this collection are a collaboration between me and another student. We have chosen this rough, textile-like print to explore its possibilities in many different prints.

Happy Ignorance

Moulage The ways of working along with the silhouets allowed me to combine the two in fabric. How does it work in what fabric? Does the silhouet work on a real body?

Paper try-outs The way children just do what they feel like, made me do the same. I took colored paper that appealed to me. By torning, cutting, glueing, sewing and moulaging around a mannequin. I tried to create interesting ideas and different ways of working then I am used to.

Textile samples I combined our course Textile Design with 3D Design to come up with fabrics I could use in my collection. The fabrics I made are based on words and pictures that were given to us. Out of a picture of trees I created this pattern that I used as a basic pattern for my collection.

Moulage The process of making stuff without thinking, continued not only in paper but also fabric. Impulsive sewing and repetitive folding brought me to silhouets I used to create outfits.
