Oklahoma wins it first-ever national championship in softball. It was also the first national title for a women’s program at OU. The Sooners went through the tournament undefeated, taking down No. 10 California (2-1), No. 8 Southern Mississippi (3-1) and No. 2 Arizona (1-0) before defeating No. 3 UCLA (3-1) in the championship game.
The Oklahoma softball program takes its first trip outside the continental United States. The Sooners opened the season at the Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu, Hawai’i.

MARCH 19, 2011 APRIL 24, 2004 The field at the OU Softball Complex was dedicated and named Marita Hynes Field, in honor of Oklahoma’s longtime former senior woman administrator. Hynes was also the second softball coach in Oklahoma’s history and responsible for hiring Patty Gasso.
FEBRUARY 4, 2005 The Sooners play their earliest recorded spring opener. Oklahoma defeated Florida Atlantic 12-0 (5) and Appalachian State 6-2 in Clearwater, Fla.

MAY 28, 2011 Oklahoma wins its first NCAA Super Regional since the format was introduced to postseason play, sweeping Arizona in Tucson in two games to advance to the program’s sixth Women’s College World Series.
MAY 12, 2012 FEBRUARY 9-11, 2007 Oklahoma won five straight games to begin a 23-game win streak, the longest in school history.
Oklahoma claimed its ninth outright Big 12 title and freshman Lauren Chamberlain set the Big 12 single-season home run record with a 12-1 win at Iowa State. Chamberlain finished the season with 30 home runs.

Mariee Mena becomes the first Sooner to sweep the national awards in the same week. Mena was named National Player of the Week by both USA Softball and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Keilani Ricketts is named the 2012 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year by the Amateur Softball Association, the first player in program history to win the prestigious award.
