AWARD WINNERS HISTORY
2009 MARKS MONUMENTAL SEASON The 2009 season was one for the record books as the Sooners nearly captured their 27th conference crown and was awarded their first national seed in the NCAA Tournament. OU’s individual performances did not go unnoticed as senior J.T. Wise (right) collected several accolades, including the Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation’s top catcher. Wise became OU’s first recipient of the award and just the second in the history of the Big 12 Conference. In addition, Wise was named OU’s third conference player of the year and first since 1994.
In 2009, J.T. Wise became OU’s first Johnny Bench Award winner (top catcher) and the second in the Big 12.
Wise was joined on the awards’ stand by Garrett Buechele, who collected the Big 12’s Freshman of the Year honor.
