Upcoming Flicks Save calorie room for the popcorn with extra butter, just to get your mouth watering, here are some of the hottest movies coming out this month.

“Bears” Release Date: April 18th

The Scoop: Disney nature’s new True Life Adventure “Bears” showcases a year in the life of two mother bears as they impart life lessons to their impressionable young cubs. Set against a majestic Alaskan backdrop teeming with life, their journey begins as winter comes to an end and the bears emerge from hibernation to face the bitter cold. The world outside is exciting—but risky—as the cubs’ playful descent down the mountain carries with it a looming threat of avalanches. As the season changes from spring to summer, the brown bear families must work together to find food—ultimately feasting at a plentiful salmon run—while staying safe from predators, including an ever-present wolf pack. “Bears” captures the fast-moving action and suspense of life in one of the planet’s last great wildernesses—where mothers definitely know best and their cubs’ survival hinges on family togetherness. G

“Heaven Is For Real” Release Date: April 18th

The Scoop: Todd Burpo and Sonja Burpo are the real-life couple whose son Colton claims to have visited Heaven during a near death experience. Colton recounts the details of his amazing journey with childlike innocence and speaks matter-of-factly about things that happened before his birth ... things he couldn’t possibly know. Todd and his family are then challenged to examine the meaning from this remarkable event. PG

“Transcendence” Release Date: April 18th The Scoop: Dr. Will Caster is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed -- to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn and best friend Max Waters, both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him. PG-13

“A Haunted House 2” Release Date: April 18th

The Scoop: Malcolm, after exorcising the demons of his ex, is starting fresh with his new girlfriend and her two children. After moving into their dream home, Malcolm is once again plagued by bizarre paranormal events. R

“Redwood Highway” Release Date: April 18th The Scoop: Living in a comfortable retirement community in Southern Oregon, estranged from her family, dissatisfied with her surroundings, and generally not happy about life, Marie decides to travel 80 miles on foot to the coast of Oregon to see the ocean for the first time in 45 years and attend her granddaughter’s wedding as an unexpected guest. Along the way, she meets an extraordinary cast of characters and discovers that you’re never too old to learn something about life and about yourself. PG-13

“Tasting Menu” Release Date: April 18th

The Scoop: One of the greatest restaurants in the world is closing and an eclectic mix of international patrons have arrived in beautiful Catalonia for the final dinner service in this witty and delicious ensemble comedy. As the staff prepare and serve an audacious tasting menu, an estranged husband and wife, a nerdy dedicated doctor and a gorgeous best-selling writer, who made their reservation a year ago (before splitting up) reunite for this once-in-a-lifetime meal. Will their romance be rekindled with the help of the widowed countess dining with her late husband’s ashes? Will the two competitive Japanese investors finalize a deal with the brilliant chef and lure her to Japan? Will the demanding chef pull off a tour-de-force farewell worthy of her talents and her diners’ expectations? Will the musicians who are scheduled to perform survive their disastrous sea journey? Wesley Chapel Makes List of

Best Cities for Homeownership in Florida!

R

ecently Wesley Chapel was ranked #4 on a list of Best Cities for Homeownership in Florida, thanks to a website called NerdWallet. com. This is what they had to say about our beautiful city: “This community, part of the Tampa metro area, is only a 25-minute commute north of the city. It has a homeownership rate of 75.4%, and its population grew at a rate of 10.1% between 2010 and 2012. It has a 120-acre park and will see expansion of State Road 56 in the next few years, which will make commutes easier. Wesley Chapel also has its own chamber of commerce and center of the arts. And if it’s a

place of leisure you’re seeking, look no further. Wesley Chapel is home to Saddlebrook Resort, which provides a relaxing getaway without having to leave your own community.” More and more CEO’s and executives are moving to Wesley Chapel every day, and for good reasons. This community features amazing amenities and it is very close to two airports (Tampa International and Zephyrhills Municipal) and quite a bit of major highways, including but not limited to Interstate 275 and Interstate 75. Wesley Chapel also has tons of new state-of-the-art facilities that are just beckoning CEO’s to come and add

there business’s to our already prospering city. The Shops of Wiregrass, a beautiful outdoor mall and the soon to come Cypress Creek Town Center just adds more to the list of appeal. This isn’t even including other things like the Pasco-Hernandez State College, Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel with a state of the art Health and Wellness Center, and now The Fields of Wiregrass baseball complex is projected to open spring 2016. So what is it about Wesley Chapel that makes it a great place for the everyday person and family? Look at our beautiful city and you will see it would be a great place to own a home and with all the new

homes being built I am not the only one that feels this way. I have been here for two years and I can also say I have never met friendlier people. Don’t take my word for it, let’s look at the statistics. Annually there is 1 violent crime, 16 property crimes, and 18 total crimes per 1000 residents; that makes Wesley Chapel safer than half of the cities in the US. To put that into perspective there are around 19355 cities in the US. That makes Wesley Chapel safer than 9378 cities in the US. I definitely think that Wesley Chapel deserved to make it into the list made by NerdWallet.com. My only thought is we should have been in the top 3. •

Fashion

Maridy’s

FASHIONfor spring TIPS

T

here’s nothing more spring but to bring it in with fun spring colors. Try not to get too crazy with ALL bright, spring color though!

Fresh, light pastels and NEVER forget white...

It’s definitely worth investing in a decent sundress. Maybe start by thinking: one for beach/lounging; one for an outside lunch as well as dinner; and one to just visit with your friends. Joie or Soft Joie spring collection is full of wearable/wear again. By paring your selection with varying accessories you can change it up and wear again without anyone ever noticing you have ever worn it before! Of course, such high-end gear comes at a price. There are many other designers such as Topshop.com, JCrew, Zaragoza, and Express at the Shops at Wiregrass who offer great ideas, so you don’t have to spend a fortune to look your best. If you don’t want to splurge on the dress or outfit, then I would definitely consider purchasing a great looking sandal, wedge or peep-toe, slingback heel.

Remember, a great sandal can outlast most fashion trends!

My top dress sytles for spring:

My fav colors for the season:

• White • Pinks • Light blues & yellow

My top selections, whether you are ready to splurge a little or keep it within your budget:

• Joie or Soft Joie at Revolveclothing.com Diamond eyelent dress in porcelain $268

• Joie Orchard dress in porcelain $208 • Soft Joie Rees dress in stripe & vintage

indigo $198

• Topshop.com-Plain low back maxi $36 • Express- White halter slip dress $79 Pair all of these great looks with:

• Gieseppe Zanotti - “Pyramid T-strap sandal” $312

• Gieseppe Zanotti - “Triangle -stud flat thong sandal back” $271

• Maxi’s are always great (try to stick with • Forever21-” Sleck” flipflop $8.80 just a few colors). • Cotton float or form fitting short dress (If you are more of a shorts and top kinda gal - definitely go with cutoff denim shorts and a crisp, button-down, spring shade top).

He lives with her and her husband in Dade City. “His mind is still very good but his body is not as good as it once was,” she said. But they recently remedied the problem by purchasing a chair with an electronic lift from the new Tampa Lift Chair Showroom. “Her father tried out several chairs however because he’s 6’3” and his feet dangled from some, but we found one where he can stretch out his

legs completely,” Woodbrick said. “It also reclines when he wants to sleep.” It was delivered the following day because it was an in-stock item. Joe LoPinto, president of the company that opened the showroom in November, said it is the only storefront of its kind in Hillsborough County. “For years we’ve been selling this type of equipment online, but people kept asking why we didn’t have someplace where people can come in and try them out,” he said. The store carries a wide assortment of lift chairs – built with electronic lifting mechanisms at their bases the enable the users to easily stand from a seated position and vice versa – manufactured by Pride, Serta and Med-Lift. Prices start at $599. Included are chairs designed for people from 4’6” to 6’6” tall and weighing between 86 and 600 pounds. “It’s important to purchase one that will work with your body type,” said customer service associate Pamela Dadabbo, who noted that chairs also are equipped with electronically controlled backrests and footrests. Lift-only portable

apparatuses that can be placed on people's existing recliners are another option from which people may select. David Cowdrick of Apollo Beach, who despite having back surgery in August, still experiences a great deal of pain. Shortly after he learned about Tampa Chair Lift, he and a friend decided to make the approximately 45-minute jaunt from his home to the showroom. “They were very professional and very thorough and the price I paid for my chair was reasonable,” Cowdrick said. “When you consider how much use it will get it is well worth it.” The business also has offsite warehouse where additional stock is stored. “We also offer white glove delivery and setup, and if you order early in the day we can usually deliver same day.” LaPointo said. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment on Saturdays. Real Estate

Why Use a Realtor, It’s All W esley Chapel was just ranked #4 on the list of Best Cities for Homeownership in Florida by the website NerdWallet.com. And as anybody who lives around here knows the growth in our lovely little section of Pasco County is once again booming. Heck try to get a parking spot at Wiregrass in the evening or weekends, it’s a challenge to say the least. Well this is not going to end here folks, lot’s more is coming so if you haven’t found your place in the sun yet in Wesley Chapel it’s time to get started. Back in the day your local Realtor was

the only individual who had information regarding the prices of homes in a given location. Today all that information can be found in a myriad of websites, so as a seller I can see what else has sold in my neighborhood and sell my house myself right? I can also go on line and see all the homes that are out there to buy right? YES and YES. So what do I need a Realtor for? A good Realtor knows way more than just the price of a potential home. A good Realtor knows the community, the schools, the demographics related to the area’s growth, the fees and amenities in the different subdivisions, what builders are building and where. A good Realtor understands sales contracts and should be able to clearly explain the contractual

obligations on the buyers or sellers side. A good Realtor can recommend lenders to help you determine what you can afford to purchase. A good Realtor can help you find good homeowners insurance. A good Realtor can recommend reliable inspectors and contractors. A good Realtor will assist you with understanding the costs associated with your purchase/sale closing and recommend a reliable title company. A good Realtor will be available to answer your questions and assist you in every step of the transaction. A good Realtor is your trusted advisor for probably the largest purchase of your lifetime and that relationship makes all the difference in how successful your purchase or sale transaction will be.

We at Point of Care Clinics Primary Care are pleased to announce the addition to our practice of Lynnda Mattmuller an extremely experienced and skilled Laser Practitioner who will be offering the Laser Hair Removal Services using the state of the art CHEVEUX DIODE LASER 810 nm at very affordable and unbeatable prices.

On the Internet Right? You see, a good Realtor knows this fundamental truth. This job is all about relationships and trust. Though the home may be the end product the steps required to complete a successful sale or purchase transaction rely on all parties working together to accomplish the same goal and getting there can have a variety of challenges. A good Realtor will be communicating regularly with their client and all the other parties involved to make sure the processes keep moving along. A good Realtor is ready to step in when something goes awry and help find a creative solution. A good Realtor understands that there are 2 parties in every transaction and wants to have a good relationship with the other good Realtor involved too.

A good Realtor will always make the successful completion of the transaction their top priority because ultimately that is why they are there. A good Realtor can have one of the most rewarding jobs around, and I’m not talking about financially rewarding, a good Realtor gets paid well because people want to work with them and that’s as it should be. But the most rewarding part of the job is sitting at the closing table with your buyer or seller and experiencing the satisfaction of a happy seller or the joy of a buyer getting their dream home and knowing it’s because being a good Realtor made it all happen. •

Press Release Wesley Chapel Mercedes-Benz Dealership Coming Soon

M

By J os hu a Colet t i

ercedes is coming to town! AutoNation has decided to open up a Mercedes-Benz dealership

in Pasco by the end of the year. AutoNation, the country’s largest auto retailer has tackled this $17 million project to open up a 45,000-square-foot dealership right on the corner of State Road 56 and Interstate 75.

24

APRIL 2014 • WC magazine

The Wesley Chapel dealership will include a 21,000-square-foot showroom with 22 service bays. This new dealership should create around 100 jobs in sales and service, and don’t forget about the 30 to 50 construction jobs needed for the actual building of the dealership. Cannon, senior vice president of the Fort Lauderdale-based Corporation says “The auto business in Florida is on fire, the economy is coming back in Florida. People are moving here and the Tampa Bay marketplace is really reaping the benefit of that.” That couldn’t be truer, considering the two other dealerships that are also opening up this year. There is a new Volkswagen dealership opening on south State Road 56, and a new Chevrolet dealership opening on Wesley Chapel Boulevard. Looking at the records you can see that Wesley Chapel is beating the rest of the county in affluence. Latest census

records show that Wesley chapel has an average household income around $30,000 more than that of Pasco as a whole. “Anytime a dealership comes into a community, it means they’ve done their homework,” Hope Allen, the chamber of commerce’s executive director commented. “To have them come to our area and have 100 new quality jobs is great for the community. You can also look at Wesley Chapel High School and its automotive career academy. Teaming up with the dealerships will make good partnerships. The Wesley Chapel area quickly is gaining a reputation as the Tampa Bay area’s destination for new car shoppers. And for you luxury car drivers, you won’t need to drive all the way to the currently closest Mercedes dealership, which is on Dale Mabry Highway north of Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. •

Pets

M

Creating a Positive Experience Moving with your Pet Talk to your vet about whether your pet may need a sedative for more comfortable travel. Also, consider getting your dog or cat groomed just before the trip so that nails are trimmed for the event.

oving is a chore all by itself, but making sure your pet thrives well in the adventure requires extra planning.

Renting? Make sure they are Friendly.

Finding a rental that take pets is your first step in securing happy housing for you and your animal friend. You’ll want your new landlord to welcome you both with open arms, so be up front with the fact that you have a pet. You can go one further by having a pet resume at the ready. This is a document that includes vaccination and spayed or neutered information (with supporting documents), references from past landlords, neighbors, your veterinarian, obedience trainers and any other positive information that will make your pet shine. Look for housing, ideally, with a fenced yard, in a neighborhood which offers plenty of walking options and perhaps a dog park. If you worry about your dog or cat roaming loose, consider renting a house on a street that’s removed from a heavily-trafficked road.

Planning the Move…

Depending on how far you have to go and how you’re getting there, you will want to start getting your pet used to using a carrier as soon as possible. Make it readily available with a favorite toy or blanket inside. Once your pet sees the carrier as a safe haven, traveling in it on the big day won’t seem as traumatic. If traveling by plane, check pet travel policies on your airline of choice to see what restrictions they have and to find out what paperwork and evidence of vaccinations you must provide — before making reservations.

Moving Day!

The day of the move is usually stressful for everyone involved, and your pet can pick up on all the expectant energy in the air. Be sure to keep your routine as normal as possible, while keeping your voice and body language as calm as you can. Plenty of affection and praise will assure your pet that nothing bad is happening. Moving days also offer the opportunity for anxious pets to bolt out an open door. Choose a room in the home you’re leaving and make it your pet’s base while everything is moved out. Make sure to keep the door closed (warn friends and family members to do the same) and to supply your pet with food, water, a favorite toy and the crate, if you’re using one. Now that everyone has made it to the New Diggs… What? Keep your pet crated or in a closed room until everything is moved in and you can begin to create some order. As with your exit strategy, supply your pet with everything she will need upon arrival—familiar food/water bowls and favorite toys. Now your pet can begin the process of exploring this new territory comfortably. •

International Moment of Laughter Day Always April 14th International Moment of Laughter Day is a special day that will put a big smile on your face. The objective of this day is to get people to laugh, and to laugh more often. After all, "laughter is the best medicine". Moment of Laughter Day is also known as National Moment of Laughter Day, and plain old Moment of Laughter Day. We don't care whether you celebrate today as a local, national, or international day. What's important is that you bring about laughter (and happiness) to those you come in contact with today. To celebrate this special day, simply tell jokes or do funny things that cause people to laugh. A smile is not a good enough reaction. Successful participation in this day results in whole-hearted laughter.

APRIL 2014 • WC magazine

Origin of "Moment of Laughter Day": Humorologist Izzy Gesell created Moment of Laughter Day to encourage people to laugh. It sure would be nice to meet the creator of this day in person, so we could share a laugh together. We found varying dates for this celebration, all in the month of April. But among them, April 14th is the day designated by the creator as International Moment of Laughter Day. •

Pasco Government

Municipal Elections 2014 Municipal elections in five of six municipalities within Pasco County will be held on April 8, 2014. The cities of Dade City, New Port Richey, Port Richey, St. Leo and Zephyrhills will be having elections for voters residing within those city limits only. Now that all candidates have qualified for the open city seats, my staff and I are gearing up for the election with vote-by-mail ballots, conducting pollworker trainings, and equipment preparation. Approximately 3,000 vote-by-mail ballots were mailed automatically as a result of standing requests by voters, a number that in 2013 was reflected in an average 5% increase in voter turnout in the municipal elections.

The state mandates that pollworkers be trained prior to each election. Pollworkers must be assigned and notified, training classes must be scheduled, and training manuals and materials must be prepared. Voter registration staff prepares absentee ballots daily upon request and insures the voter registration rolls are current and up-to-date. Voter outreach/education staff ensures the public is notified of the election dates, bookclosing dates, and requirements. Municipal elections are funded by the individual cities with my office serving as facilitator. City candidates work through city halls to file qualifying paperwork and establish their candidacy. City Clerks serve as their liaison to the Division of Elections, and when applicable, assist the city’s council in coordinating efforts to bring referenda and amendments to the ballot. In the meantime, we have already begun the arduous task of election preparation. These elections may be small, but are no less important. In typical Pasco County fashion, we will fulfill our obligation with extreme attention to detail and accuracy. •

What to Plant

Annuals: New varieties of coleus do well in sun or shade and provide vivid colors and patterns for months. Bulbs: Planting early-, mid-, and late-blooming varieties of daylily will insure months of color from these low maintenance plants. Herbs: Add nasturtiums to your herb garden. The leaves and flowers add a peppery zest to salads. Vegetables: Continue planting warm season crops such as beans, cantaloupe, and okra. Mulch well to prevent weeds, and provide water if the weather has been dry.

What to DO

Pests: Monitor landscape plants weekly for aphids on tender new growth. Flowering Plants: Check for thrips if leaves and/or flowers of gardenias and roses are damaged. Divide perennials and bulbs: Divide clumps of bulbs, ornamental grasses, or herbaceous perennials to expand or rejuvenate garden beds or to pass-along to friends. Lawn Problems: Many lawn problems, such as lack of water, mimic insect damage. Confirm the damage is being caused by insects before applying a pesticide. Shrubs: Choose from a wide variety of shrubs to add to the landscape now. Lawns: Apply fertilizer after new growth has started. Choose a fertilizer (not a “weed and feed”) with little or no phosphorus unless a soil test indicates the need for it. A fertilizer with controlled-release nitrogen yields longer-lasting results.

The Last Word

Being “In the Game” Are you listening to your inner voice?

A GREAT MASSAGE OR

FACIAL FOR EVERY BODY!

By Russ Whitney IN MY SEARCH FOR THE MEANING OF LIFE, I’ve come to understand that life is essentially a game, a game that consists of a daily search for the truth with the creator of your understanding. When you realize this, it gets easier to live in the present. If you think about professional sports, this makes sense: The players prepare for the game, play it, learn from it, and then play the next one. They don’t spend a lot of time beating themselves up over something they did that they can’t do over. They don’t spend a lot of time worrying about the next game; they understand the difference between preparation and worry. When they are playing the game, that’s all they’re focused on: playing the game right now. And that’s what you should focus on: playing the game of life right now in the here and now—that is, today! The game of life is a lot like any game that’s played under a time clock. For example, in a basketball or football game, there are 60 minutes on the clock. The game starts, it’s played for an hour, and then it ends. It’s done. The scoreboard tells you whether you won or lost. And regardless of how you did in that game, you go on to the next one and the score starts over at zero.

In life, each “game” is one day. Today. Our season—instead of being a period of months, as in sports—is our lives. But if you ask professional sports players if they spend any time or energy while they’re on the field or the court thinking about the last game or their next game, they’ll most likely tell you no. They are focused on the now, on the game they’re playing at the moment. That’s how winning seasons are achieved and championships are won: one day at a time, one game at a time. This isn’t to say that players don’t train; they absolutely do. They practice, they study their opponents, and they develop their skills. They have goals and strategies to reach those goals. But when they’re “in the game,” that’s the only place where they are. When they get “out of the game,” when they are distracted even for a moment, is when they make mistakes. They know it, and that’s why they exercise the discipline to stay entirely in the present, in the game, while they’re playing. Of course, the “game of life” isn’t about making baskets or touchdowns. As I’ve said, it’s a daily search for the truth with you and the God of your understanding. A key word there is daily; the time clock is today. That doesn’t mean that we can’t have plans and goals for tomorrow, next week, and next year. We can, and we should. We just can’t live in those goals; we have to stay in today. If we don’t, we fall into anger, anxiety, frustration, fear, and doubt. We start to play the “what if” game: “What if this happens?” “What if that happens?” “What if I don’t have enough money?” “What if I get sick, have an accident, or experience some other crisis?” Play that game, and you’ll be filled with unnecessary anxiety. When you worry, you’re essentially planning for bad things to happen. The way to avoid worry is to stay in the present. Today all is well, and you know what you have to do today. Keep it there. One more critical thing to remember about living in the present is this: Where you are today isn’t where you were yesterday or where you’ll be tomorrow. You must keep seeking, keep learning, keep doing, keep taking action so that the plan for your life will continue to unveil itself. •
