Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) was established in 1956 as a collaboration between the then state of Patiala and East Punjab States Union (PEPSU), the central Government and the Patiala Technical Education Trust (PTET). Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology currently ranks as one of the top private universities in India. Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) brings to the world 63 years of excellence in teaching and research. The institute is in Patiala & spread over a 250-acre campus with modern infrastructure and beautiful gardens. The institute has grown and evolved during the last six decades of its existence. Nearly 18,500 engineers have left its portals so far, distinguishing themselves as proud Thaparians in diverse fields across India and the globe. In recognition of the contribution of the institute towards engineering and science education, TIET was granted full autonomy and the status of a Deemed to be University in 1985 by UGC.

SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS

Vision To be recognized as the global excellence model in research and education in Mathematics.

Mission • To offer professional degree programs in Mathematics designed to fully develop the professional potential of students. • To produce proficient graduates for employment in technologically challenging areas in academia and industry. • To provide foundational support in mathematics for various academic programs across the institute. • To carry out quality research in pure and applied mathematics. • To ensure the attainment of goals in accordance with the institute’s thrust and directions.

School of Mathematics (SoM) at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) was established as an independent entity in 2015 to promote teaching and research in mathematical sciences. Earlier the school was part of the School of Mathematics and Computer Applications, which came into existence in the year 2002 when a major academic restructuring of different schools and departments took place at the TIET. Our growth has been stimulated by mathematics and computing being vitally important disciplines that underpin a vast range of human endeavors, and with the increasing quantification and the digitization of the world they are set to become even more important.

Academic Programs M.Sc. (Mathematics and Computing) M.Sc. (Mathematics) Ph.D. Programme
