The class of 1949 began its four eventful years of college with a rugged initiation ceremony. Freshmen who survived the initiation experienced a good year highlighted by a class banquet with Governor Robert S. Kerr as main speaker. In the sophomore year the class eased the sting of its hurts by inflicting upon the new freshmen an equally hard initiation as it had received. The Cold Rush theme of the initiation became the class theme, .appropriate enough for hardy Forty-niners. For the junior year there were to be triumphs and thrills, enough to make any Forty-niner proud. The play "Magnificent Obsession" was a big success. Then came the round of honors in sports. On the night of the Jamboree, best-attended athletic event of the year, Forty-niners came way out ahead; their team won the game, their queen was crowned queen of the Jamboree,
