HIGH FIVES FOUNDATION (@HI5SFOUNDATION): Lake Tahoe based, The High Fives Foundation is a non-profit set-up to support the dreams of mountain action sports athletes by raising injury prevention awareness while providing resources and inspiration to those who suffer life-altering injuries. More than just making a rad product, Smith has teamed up with High Fives to support the effort and make meaningful product close to the heart. Sales of the products will go to support the foundation and their effort to create a safety net for those doing what they love.

WOOLRICH (@WOOLRICHINC): Woolrich has been synonymous with quality outdoor clothing for over 180 years. Founded in 1830 by John Rich, Woolrich is the oldest continually operating woolen mill in the United States. The company was originally founded in North Central Pennsylvania to manufacture fabric for the wives of hunters, loggers and trappers who lived in the area. Woolrich remains a family business. For the second year in a row, Woolrich x Smith helmets have earpads wrapped in wool milled in Pennsylvania. That same material is used for a custom wool goggle bag, included with each goggle. Designers from Smith and Woolrich dug by hand through the archives of wool to come up with this yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s patterns: a traditional blanket pattern harkening back to pioneer trappers and a geometric pattern out of the deadstock archive.

COAL (@COALHEADWEAR): Sometimes mindsets align. This is the case between Smith and Coal Headwear. Coal was born of snow culture and founded in 2002, out of Seattle, Washington, on the belief that headwear was more than accessory. With this co-op project we wanted to bring style to function for those users that wear a balaclava while snowboarding or skiing. The collab goggles come with a balaclava specifically designed to be worn with goggles and under a helmet: articulating fit and breathability so your goggles won’t fog. The art features imagery by photographer Mark Welsh – who shoots heavily for both brands.

MATT FURIE (WWW.MATTFURIE.COM): Artist Series Known throughout the underground art world over for his monsterous characters, his comic Boy’s Club #1, and as the hero of 4chan and Reddit lore for creating the meme Pepe the Frog. Matt Furie’s drawings come from a mix of child-like enchantment and momentary adult situations. His self proclaimed “children’s book illustrations for adults” combines traditional and modern mark-making for his ripe, cartoon-inspired characters.

ID Inspired design. More than observe, we participate, getting outside to push limits and experience the thrill first hand. Insights are gathered and put to the test against the toughest competition and in the harshest elements. No one knows this better than our athletes. The Smith ID collection lets our top athletes work directly with our design team to create graphics that they’re proud to call their own.

Sage’s new goggle is inspired by structure that makes up organic matter. “I love being able to come into the studio and work with the Smith designers; tuning the samples to the right frequencies.” Symbolism and shape are huge influences for Sage, and using the hexagonal pattern reinforces this.

Celebrating his roots in deep British Columbia, Mark pays homage to the native culture of the northwest coastal people. The bird of prey is a strong symbol of independent spirit. Working with artist and fellow Canadian Derek Muscat, Abma’s ID celebrates the free spirit in all of us.

Simplicity ain’t easy. Sometimes reducing design down to the minimal is the most difficult. Bobby likes making the hard things look easy. So this year he’s keeping things clean and minimal.

Take flight with Angel’s second edition to the ID collection. Harnessing her spirit animal, the owl, and digging on nature’s textures, Angel gives us a distinct I/O Women’s graphic designed with the Smith art team.

There are raging forces in all of us. David’s graphic pits good and evil against each other so he can harness the energy and step up onto podiums. Illustrator Joe Henry lends his pencil skills to the project.

Scotty loves snowboarding with friends and getting out into the wilderness. This year we’ve collaborated on his goggle with Realtree® using their Xtra® Green camo pattern.

The sense of exploration gets Austin going. Traveling the world to snowboard in new places drives him as a professional rider. But life doesn’t stop there. We created a watercolor camo-pattern to outfit him on his explorations.

Desiree, always a favorite for female rider of the year, creates at least one drawing every day, similar to a journal. She keeps track of time passing and memories of the day with sketches. Her ID goggle this year is artwork created specifically for this project. Don’t be afraid to get weird.

One of the most inventive snowboarders ever, Scott isn’t afraid to have some fun with his goggles. Inspired by the color of early-90’s snowboard culture, his ID goggle is an evolution of our Archive Collection. Scott hand-selected a graphic from the Smith vault to help celebrate a colorway originally released in 1991.

The newest member of the Smith ID ski program, Markus is from Tirol, Austria which is renowned for its peaks and castles. The Tiroler Adler featured on the strap is the traditional symbol of the region.

Using a collage of photos from the past year, including visits home and shred trips abroad, Elena worked with the Smith design team to create this year’s ID goggle.

Get expressive. Xavier’s graphic is an explosion of paint and vibrance. He wanted bright and fun to accompany him down the heavy lines.

Lens technologies Smith goggles are built using the most technologically advanced lenses in the world. We combine our patented thermal lens technologies with the most sophisticated fog-fighting inner lenses ever created to provide three levels of performance to match perfectly to your needs. SPHERICAL LENS

Spherical lenses are built on a base curve in both the X (horizontal) and Y (vertical) axis. Smith’s spherical lenses are oﬀered exclusively in carbonic-x material with TLT Optics and a base 6x4 toric shape. This pioneering shape provides the highest level of optical clarity, improved fit characteristics and increased volume improving fog performance. CYLINDRICAL LENS

When light passes through a medium it refracts, i.e. changes course. If left uncorrected, this refraction can cause visual distortion and eye fatigue. Changes in elevation bring changes in atmospheric pressure. These forces have the potential to diminish the optics of thermal lens systems. The most advanced anti-fog lens ever created. Building upon the hydrophilic, micro-etched surface area principles of our Fog-X lenses, our revolutionary, 5X anti-fog inner lens has been engineered to provide over five times the absorptive properties of anything on the market. AIREVAC: MAXIMUM AIRFLOW IS CRUCIAL

Ultimate integration starts with the precise fit of the Smith goggle and helmet. Our helmets are designed to match the curvature of the goggle frame, eliminating “gaper gap” and allowing precise alignment between the helmet AirEvac and the goggle venting systems.

Goggles fog when standard helmets trap warm, moist air in the goggle chamber. Smith’s AirEvac ventilation systems generate maximum airflow that pulls warm, fog-causing air out of the goggle. The warm air is allowed to exhaust out of the top of the goggle and begin its path through the helmet’s AirEvac system.

AIREVAC 2: CONSTANT AIRFLOW

REAR EXHAUST VENTILATION

AirEvac 2 continues to drive the warm air away from the goggle through external vents and internal channels in the EPS liner. Internal airflow can be adjusted through the helmet’s Regulator climate control system.

The warm air that originally built up in the goggle has been forced out via the AirEvac ventilation system, has traveled through the AirEvac 2 EPS vent channels, and is now being exhausted at the furthest distance possible from the goggle. Ultimate integration between goggle and helmet from start to finish.

Temperature control is the most important feature when considering how to enjoy the entire day on the hill. Our Dual Regulator ventilation system independently controls the front and rear sections of the Vantage venting, allowing you to modulate your body temperature even in extremely cold conditions. By exhausting heat through the rear vents while maintaining a sealed front end, your body can eﬀectively cool down if needed and avoid the dreaded “ice cream headache.”

Smith’s objective and design philosophy behind Aerocore™ construction is to increase airflow, improve temperature regulation resulting in fog-free vision and improve impact resistance. Upon impact, the cores crush in a completely controlled manner, decelerating the energy from the impact and reducing the final trauma levels.

Thousands of co-polymer extruded tubes, thermally welded to create an unparalleled consistent and fully engineered core. Each Koroyd® section is engineered to precise durometer, size, and thickness specifications to provide the greatest impact resistance and aesthetically consistent presentation.

MIPS technology Multi-directional impact protection system

MIPS is used to reduce the rotational forces to the brain in the case of an oblique impact. Smith helmets are created to absorb direct impacts very e�iciently and when combined with MIPS, Smith helmets absorb oblique forces better by allowing a small rotation of the outer shell relative to the liner. MIPS EFFECT

MIPS IN ACTION When you fall to the ground at an angle rotational forces are generated. A helmet integrating MIPS technology creates a sliding layer between the outer shell and the head. This allows the helmet's outer shell to slide relative to the head when hitting the ground, so the rotational force is decreased, reducing the potential to damage your brain.
