EWCASTLE-under-Lyme Colllege (NULC) is opening a shop in Newcastle town centre. The shop named M.A.D.E Here – which stands for Media, Art and Design Enterprise – is a creative enterprise featuring authentic handmade gifts and artwork from students and artists connected to the College. Following the success of a pop-up shop in the town centre last year, the College has been in talks with the Newcastle-under-Lyme Town Partnership and negotiated a 12 month lease for a large empty unit in Lancaster Buildings. Deb Hilditch, Curriculum Manager at the College, said:“The new shop will complement the town centre, being a hub for creative people where you can browse and shop for unique handmade items as well as taking part in workshops and getting advice on the range of courses available at Newcastle-under-Lyme College. “We’re planning to run one day courses in a range of creative areas, as well as regular weekly sessions where members of the public can explore their creative side or learn a new hobby.” The College is currently renovating the unit which will sell various artwork and handcrafted gifts including Photography, Jewellery, Ceramics, Prints, Cards, Glassware, Textiles and Soft Furnishings. The shop will also be offering a programme of activities, workshops and creative courses for people of all ages, allowing members of the public the opportunity to get in touch with their creative side, as well as getting an understanding of the wide range of other opportunities available at the College.
