Loading... (BELLEVILLE) The MEP(Metro East Pride) organization is currently enrolling vendors for the 2011 season. This years festival will be the 4th to be held on June 18th, in downtown Belleville. Vendor enrollment is available online at the Metro East Pride website. Vendor fees in 2011 remain affordable for small business owners and non-profit organizations who wish to support diversity & equality in Southern Illinois. Standard spaces are available for $50 and can be upgraded to include electricity and/or food service.

I was very happy to be with a group of people that were all nice + comforting to be with. One man showed us a home movie of him doing a sort of battle like dance with a bison.

We were all on a beautiful island with hundreds of people. My friend from high school was with us + after the man showed us the clip + talked for awhile I guess we all went to sleep. When I woke up I stepped out of the room and headed toward the bathroom. All of the people on the island were very attractive + I felt good to be among them. I felt something strange in my mouth like my tooth on my left side was loosining. Panic set in + I tried to keep calm. I reached a mirror + was horrified to find my front teeth falling out.

I pressed them back in + went out to the beach where there were many people. I noticed dolphins swimming + decided to swim. I met a dolphin + its stern was soft. It talked to me + gave much sympathy. I'm careining (Careening) a little right now I know I'm gonna be alright and I also know Ive made mistakes and missed maneuvers which may have taken me a route that would leave me feeling something similar to what I once. (PADUCAH) The much anticipated debut of the the "Biscuit Sister Show" opened this past weekend at Jim's Place in Paducah,Kentucky. This monthly series is to be held the first Friday of each month and will most certainly continue as a show of shows. The second
I'm generally either "on" or "OFF", in that you may think of me as outgoing, but just as often, im really quite reclusive in nature. And enjoy time alone with my own thoughts to keep me company. ...now ya know:) Professionally, I am a Housing Counselor with a non-profit organization in St. Louis. I joined the justinePETERSEN organization, just a week or so after Daniel passed away. He himself had urged me to pursue the "non-profit" aspect of real estate, and JP at that time was actually located along "McCree Ave" yet another sign it was the right place for me. We had so much fun and it was so great to see my friends and to meet new ones. Alejandra LeBlanc Leight and Will you two are off the chain and I had a blast with you guys.
Thanks to Mark and Alex for treating us like Divas and can't wait to come back May 7 for the next Biscuit Baking" Paducah, while a relatively small community has proven itself as a regional hub for the LGBT communities of Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois. Jim's Place has marked itself as the premier nightspot in Paducah, hosting a number of performers and events since they opened in 2010. This Summer will mark the 5th annual Pride Picnic, and the city also has hosted visits by TransHaven, and is the home of MCC of Paducah, a spirit filled community that creates "safespace" for those who are seeking a supportive community of allies.

MEP Announces 2011 Festival Entertainment www.BellevillePride.com on behalf of: Metro East Pride Belleville's 4th Annual METRO EAST PRIDE Festival is planned for June 18th, 2011 and is in the final stages of preparation for this years festivities. In an announcement made earlier this week, the MEP Board of Directors has determined the entertainment for the coming year.
Band Together Color Guard- MEP 2010
Throughout the Day, the festivities will be lead by Y98 radio personality Courtney Landrum, and musical guest Jennifer Norman.
Also returning in 2011 will be the mainstays of the festival such as Band Together, with musical performances by Social Remedy and Phillip Womble, an acoustic performer. Also appearing will be Miss Metro East Pride, Miss Sophie. The Evening festivities will be hosted by Dieta Pepsi with appearances by Sarah Baldwin, MEP 2011 President as well as performances by Summer Osborne, and EarthSol. The MEP organization is also currently enrolling VENDORS to participate in this years event. Visit them online for prices and deadlines.

(ST LOUIS) Ezekiel Project is an outreach ministry geared towards individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Founded in 2006, this vibrant group includes both church congregants, and non-members from accross the St. Louis region. Ezekiel Project strives to be a "Living Legacy" to all those who are no longer with us, and those who continue to live with HIV. As some of you may know, Daniel McCree was instrumental in this outreach from it's inception until his passing in 2007. Therefore, we continue this cause and wish to support it however possible.
Metropolitan Community Church of Greater Saint Louis (MCCGSL) has announced the plans for this years Ezekiel
Project Retreat. The church will host this years annual retreat, held on April 30, 2011 in Soulard. This years retreat is a one-day event, and is FREE of charge. Breakfast & Lunch will be provided for participants, and speakers from various organizations will offer workshops throughout the day. Ezekiel Project facilitates an annual retreat, maintains a memorial and meets monthly to offer a safe-space for socializing & support by others. It also volunteers its efforts throughout the year with projects such as "Dining Out for Life", World AIDS Day, and the International Candlelight vigil held each year.

Come check out the next exciting live installment of Open Mic Night @ The Inn on Thursday, March 24th (Doors-8; Show-9). Our main featured artist for the evening is Byron Lee, a distinctive and very gifted Poet, Writer, Author, and Spoken Word Artist. He has performed all over the Metro East, at colleges and venues such as Duff’s, Dressel’s, and The Archive.
His poetry shows elements of cynicism, love, humor, desire, and longing and his delivery is striking in its originality. Lee, a graduate of Lindenwood University’s MFA in Creative Writing program, is a Features writer for River City Examiner and Limelight Magazine. His work has appeared in Drumvoices Revue and The East St. Louis Monitor, and is currently being featured in the latest issue of St. Louis’ Bad Shoe literary magazine. He is a resident of North County in St. Louis, Mo. Also with us will be KD Murks, a renowned local Musician, Songwriter, and Vocalist from Belleville, IL. His musical acumen spans many different genres, encompassing everything from Hip-Hop to Alternative Rock. Cigar Inn Located on West Main, Belleville He has performed at many area venues, including The New Ground Floor, Crehan’s, and The Cigar Inn, and his performances are captivating and often very funny. Delaron graduated from Althoff High School in 2003 and then attended Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, where he graduated in 2008. He is a Recreational Therapist and Head Football Coach and is now working on his first solo CD. KD is also working on a project with the hip-hop group Prelude to a Million. Briana Sims, a young and very skilled Vocalist and Songwriter from East St. Louis, IL will be here. Her performances are poignant and heartfelt and she has a gorgeous singing voice. She loves to dance and sing and performs around the bi-state area. Her influences include Keri Hilson and Lil’ Boosie and she loves R&B. Sims attended Curtis Miller High School in Alorton and is a student at Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, where she recently performed for The Black History Month Event at the Schmidt Art Center. And Arif Yohannes, also of East Saint Louis, will be joining us. A Poet and Spoken Word Artist, he is a rising star in the literary world and his work is of great depth and intelligence. He began writing while attending East St. Louis Senior High School and has been writing and performing for five years now. He has performed at the Schmidt Art Center, The Cigar Inn, and several other local venues. Arif works in construction, and is currently attending school at Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, IL. On top of all that Jazz we will have an Open Mic Session (free to all who would like to share their gifts with us), nice drink specials, great cigars, big-screen TV’s, and Free-Wi-Fi, all in a relaxed and stylish setting. STL Black Pride kicks of 2011 Season www.BellevillePride.com By: Colby Kluthe-MetroEast NEWS March 12, 2011 (ST LOUIS) Audrey Pearson, the recently appointed president of Saint Louis Black Pride welcomed community and civic leaders yesterday at "The Space" in St. Louis' midtown district. A meet and greet happy hour allowed the entire region to gather and meet the leadership that will be preparing for the festival in August this year. Representatives from many major LGBT organizations were represented, signaling a spirit of unity among all those who support issues of equality in our region. In addition to the St. Louis Black Pride Board of Directors, attendee's included Leon Braxton, of the ICARE campaign, Representatives from the Pride Pages, Pride St. Louis, and Chance Baker of Metro East Pride. STL Black pride seeks to further causes of equality and understanding of the challenges faced by those in our community at large. Throughout the coming months, STL Black Pride will host several social events and opportunity for community involvement as they move towards the "main event" scheduled this year for August 18th thru 21st. The next major event will be held on March 26th, "Spring Fling" at Big Moe's in the Grove Neighborhood as well as a scheduled Movie Night night series which will start April 2, 2011. St. Louis Black Pride recently launched it's new website which offers current and updated details of events and volunteer opportunities for anyone of interest. FREE EDUCATIONAL TRAINING offered by I CARE, in conjuction with Mental Health America. Recent suicides and suicide attempts have impacted the LGBTQIA community at a local and national level. Join with the “I CARE” Campaign to gain knowledge and resources on suicide prevention and awareness. St. Louis LGBTQIA organizations and groups are working with Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri to host a SuicidePREV education workshop for LGBTQIA and allied
community members. Learn the warning signs of suicide and how to help someone who may be thinking of ending his/her life. Find out about the available mental health resources .
FREE and open to anyone. For more information, contact: Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri — 314.773.1399. Due to the sensitivity of subject, the workshop is not intended for children under age 18. Parental discretion is advised. Just because it's not in the news doesn't mean it still doesn't happen. In addition to a successful auto detailing business, The Polish Shop, Brenda co-owned the Char-Pei Lounge in Belleville, Illinois and Char-Pei's City Center in E. St. Louis, Ill. Miss Grissom was the Owner of The Polish Shop in Belleville. She was a member of Metropolitan Community Church in St. Louis and T.O.P.S. She was a greeter at Belleville WalMart. (EDWARDSVILLE) The student lead Gay Straight Alliance at Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville has announced details for the community wide day of workshops and retreat for students and allies of the LGBTIQ communities of the Metro-East Region. The day-long event will offer multiple topics for discussion, as well as a diverse panel of civic leaders and experts to facilitate conversations about issues of gender diversity and sexuality. In addition to the workshop day, GSA-SIUE has planned a number of events in the coming month, including Bowling for Equality Event for the MetroEast Area April 8th and a "Discussion about Marriage" (March 26th) DETAILS~ Saturday, April 23 ∙ 10:00am - 10:00pm Light Breakfast & Lunch will be provided for FREE.

AcSeXories on the Runway- Bethany Place Held 2nd Fashion Show www.BellevillePride.com on Behalf of: Bethany Place AcSeXories on the Runway- Bethany Place Held 2nd Fashion Show February 28, 2011 (BELLEVILLE) Bethany Place held the 2nd Annual Fashion Show Fundraiser on February 10th at the Four-Points Sheraton in Fairview Heights, IL. Local college students and businesses participated as a showing of support to the community by designing, creating, and modeling different categories of fashions. The 2nd Annual Fashion Show was toned down somewhat from the first year, but still presented some innovative and "protective" apparel, with several designs made entirely from latex condoms. The event also included a silent auction, raffle drawings, and information booths. Among the keynote speakers was Tony Monken, former adviser of Metro East Pride and HIV/AIDS advocate throughout the state of Illinois. Bethany Place is the largest non-profit AIDS Service Organization in the St. Louis Metro East area, providing comprehensive case management and programming focused on promoting wellness and serving all people living with HIV/AIDS. This years show featured Honorary Emcee: Curt Rejba of Total Entertainment Solutions, emcee/owner for 13 years, experience in over 200 shows, and entertainment co-chairman of Northland Festivals. Also featured, special musical guest Big Boss Blues Band. Bethany Place is the largest non-profit AIDS Service Organization in the St. Louis Metro East area. In a spirit of compassion and justice, Bethany Place provides comprehensive case management and programming focused on promoting wellness and serving all people living with HIV/AIDS. As the law goes into effect, local courts are moving towards the implementation of the new changes. Principal Attorney Todd Sivia is committed to facilitate the first Civil Unions under the new rights of the LGBT communities in the Metro-East Region. Under the new law, gender identity is truly equal, and becomes a non-issue. Attorney Todd Sivia explains "It does not matter about transgender individuals because civil unions allow both same sex and men and women. For those couples who previously went to Iowa or other state, are now recognized under SB1716, the "Illinois Religious Freedom Protection and Civil Union Act." The bill allows both gay and straight couples to enter into civil unions, giving them some of the same benefits automatically available to married couples, including the right to visit a sick partner in the hospital, disposition of a deceased loved one's remains and the right to make decisions about a loved one's medical care. Any couple who is interested can contact the firm about the procedure required under this new law. February 11, 2011 (BELLEVILLE) Next week's National Condom Day event will be held in conjunction with Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation, an organization that provides a wide range of community health care services. Specifically, we will be working with the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Services division. They will be supplying us with condoms, educational materials, demonstrators, and invaluable know-how when it comes to educating the public. In exchange, we provide them the opportunity to team up with the biggest, most active campus organization at SWIC and reach out to 15,000+ individuals from a variety of backgrounds. We are super excited about this new relationship and the opportunities it will provide Q&A members and the SWIC community! Historically, Q&A-SWIC has worked exclusively with Bethany Place, the largest HIV/AIDS Service Organization in Southern Illinois. Through this new partnership Q&A-SWIC will be able to serve a larger group of individuals as well as expansion beyond the current reach of the student group. (CARBONDALE) The 25th Annual Miss Gay Illinois USofA Pageant, March 26th preliminary night and March 27th final night.
This years theme is "Legacy Ball, Celebrating 25 Years of Excellence". Miss Gay Illinois USofA has had the privilege of having some of the best entertainers in the business represent us. We played host to over 700 people for this event in 2010 and anticipate even more visitors this year. Contestants are coming from six... states to battle it out.

Justice News Justice News is a project of the Coalition for Economic and Social Justice Justice for All; Peace; Freedom; Democracy; and a Sustainable World Vol.5 Winter 2011 Full Employment is a key to reducing crime, tension between races, domestic violence, homelessness, and the costs of welfare, food stamps and unemployment benefits. Full Employment will stimulate the economy as people with jobs buy more things and pay more taxes. www.nationaljobsforall.org Homeless Shelter Needed in Belleville: The Roundtable Discussion of Current Events has temporarily shifted from discussion to action. In January, CESJ convened a meeting of several leaders from the faith community and it was agreed that we would work to open a homeless shelter in Belleville.
A shelter operated by the Salvation Army was closed two years ago; the reason for the closure of that shelter is not clear at this time. Discussion of current events will resume in September. Marin Luther King Day a Success: The second annual MLK Day, sponsored by 17th St. Corridor Neighborhood Association and Belleville AmeriCorps and facilitated by Pastor Michelle Parsons was a huge success as 150 people, young and old, black and white---- talking, singing and dancing to “un-learn” racism. Interfaith Trip to Tamms Correctional Center: On Good Friday, April 22, an interfaith group will hold a prayer vigil outside of Tamms correctional facility. Located in Southern Illinois, this prison was designed for the “worst of the worst” where 23 hours a day are spent in solitary confinement. However, investigative reporters, George Pawlaczyk and Beth Hundsdorfer with the Belleville News Democrat, learned that inmates were sent there for reasons other then being their criminal behavior. There is concern that mentally ill people are imprisoned there and that solitary confinement creates mental illness. Fellowship of Southern Illinois Laity (FOSIL), a Catholic group, has gone to Tamms for the past 10 years. This year FOSIL is asking people of other faiths to join them in the vigil. Racial Harmony meets monthly to increase communication and understanding between races. 618-234-0508. Venue for Southern Illinois Artists Opens in Belleville: Currently a consortium of 16 artists from Southern Illinois display their work at The Galleries for Sole Survivors at 125 East Main St. Various mediums and price ranges are represented. The gallery is sponsored by Steve and Kay Ray and directed by textile artist Jacque Davis. We need to be prepared to take care of ourselves and our neighbors before the official responders arrive (police, fire, and ambulance). Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training teaches fire suppression, search and rescue, basic first aid and medical triage, and disaster psychology. Those who complete the training receive a certificate, a CERT backpack containing basic supplies related to disaster preparedness and are encouraged to regularly participate in mock disaster trainings. The next 20 hour CERT training is the evening of March 18, and Saturday, March 19 and 26 at First Assembly of God, in Belleville. The training is open to all over 16 years of age. Gay Justice: A new organization has formed which will give hope, reduce isolation and provide support to gay people throughout Southern Illinois. The United Church of Christ (UCC) has 82 churches within Southern Illinois, and the executive board approved the establishment of Illinois South Conference (ISC) Pride. The next ISC Pride meeting is March 5, from 3 pm to 5 pm at St. Paul UCC in Belleville; the topic is “Civil Unions”. The meeting in April will be held in O'Fallon; the topic is “Leviticus 18:22”. Belleville PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) meets the first Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm. For several months there was concern that the bar would close or be sold to nonfriendly gay people. Owners Harold Schwartz and Rick Hembree, domestic partners as well as business partners, recently decided to keep the bar and invest time and money to plan more fun events. Rick and Harold were instrumental in establishing the annual Pride Festival in Belleville. Club Escapade will host a fundraiser for Metro East Pride 2011 the evening of Saturday, February 26.
