SL bikers can enjoy the road on their choppers at the three sims of Coyote Biker Island, http://slurl.com/secondlife/ Coyote%20Town/85/60/22, while taking advantage of the many other fun activities available there. Owners Nadia Lassally and Wildcat Laszlo have created the perfect biker’s getaway to satisfy the ‘Easy Rider’ in all of us. You feel the blast of wind on your cheeks as it tosses your hair carelessly, giving you the look of those iconic bikers of the silver screen. Miles of open roads take you on a journey from sandy beaches, across the town, and finally to a majestic mountain side where you’ll find the Coyote Ugly club and Coyote Biker’s showroom where you can purchase the hot choppers designed by Lassally and Laszlo themselves. Lassally and Laszlo are RL friends who joined SL together in January 2007 and immediately became interested in the SL motorcycles available. This is because they have a network of RL friends who are deeply involved in the biker culture in Holland. After getting freebie BMW bikes, they decided to find a biker sim to try them out. At that time, there were only two biker sims in SL but once they were exposed to the diversity and the quality of the bikes available then, they wanted to upgrade what they had. Unfortunately, they couldn’t afford them and necessity dictated that they needed to build their own bikes. From that day on, as Lassally says, “we never stopped building bikes. Before we knew it, we had our own bike business.” After a year of building and accumulating land, they ventured on to the inevitable by creating their very own biker sim. Lassally explained their concept and goals in creating the biker sims, “We wanted to give people the opportunity to ride their own bikes on our sims 14 | VR Style April 2010 Issue

and hang out with their friends. We wanted it to be a friendly and neutral biker sim where people can go to have fun and, of course, buy our quality bikes!” They were inspired to create an environment that looked appealing and rideable and that incorporated a lot of other activities as well. While the vision for the sims was shared by both of them, Laszlo performed all of the interesting and aesthetically pleasing terraforming as well as most of the building. Lassally handles the more technical aspects of their efforts. Speaking of the events normally held at the sims, Lassally said, “We have several events each week at the Coyote Ugly Club as well as concerts every two weeks at our outdoor concert stage. We usually have excellent tribute bands playing at the concerts and sometimes have live singers.” On one of their adjoining sims, Amsterdam Farm, there are also DJs and concerts in the clubs in the city of Amsterdam and in the sky above at the farmers market. Their events are always advertised on the SL website event page. “There are lots to do at our sims”, Lassally added, “At the farmers market, you can rent space to sell your chickens, pigs or rabbits. We also have a combat area where shooting is allowed and adds to the fun you can have here. We have a 50’s style drive in theater, horse riding, shopping, a red-light district in Amsterdam city and much, much more. Lassally made special mention of other key players who contribute to the success of the Coyote Biker sims, “Gino Mertel, a co-owner and RL family member, is someone we depend VR Style April 2010 Issue|15

SL and RL Relationships By Carey DeCuir Dear Readers, This month we discuss the tricky issue of how relationships in SL affect our relationships in RL. For obvious reasons, the people interviewed have asked to remain anonymous. I interviewed people who are either married in RL or are in a serious relationship. I also have to admit that most of the insightful comments came from women, so this discussion is heavily biased towards the female perspective. If any men out there wish to offer insights or thoughts, please send an IM or a note card to Carey DeCuir and I will consider an article from the male perspective. Carey DeCuir: “A”, I hear that you are getting married in SL next week. Does your hubby know about this? “A”: I have told my hubby about my SL relationship and he is comfortable with it. He is open-minded and understanding, perhaps because my interactions in SL have significantly enhanced our RL sex life. CD: why do you feel it has enhanced your RL sex life? “A”: For a couple of reasons. First, I get very excited by my experiences in SL and my hubby reaps the benefits of that. Second, SL gives me a chance to explore some of my fantasies and as I become comfortable with them through play in SL, I have been suggesting them to my RL hubby. CD: can I ask what kind of fantasies? “A”: For one thing, I have explored D/s relationships in SL and have brought that to my RL marriage.... both my hubby and I enjoy exploring that now. CD: “B” you tell me that you are a happily married woman in RL, so why do you have lovers in SL? “B”: I love being seduced and adored and lets face 26 | VR Style April 2010 Issue

it, after 16 years of marriage and kids, that doesn’t happen in RL anymore. CD: and this gets your excited. “B”: Oh yes.... I get really excited thinking that someone out there is getting a stiffy thinking about me. And I love to just meet somebody in SL and have a fling with them. It gives me such a rush, but I would never do that in RL, not now. CD: and how does this affect your RL relationship? “B”: my RL husband has certainly been the beneficiary of my arousal. I also think that I have become more “playful” with him... kind of a temptress to him. CD: what else do you get out of SL relationships that affects either you or your hubby? “B”: I think that women are often sexually inhibited in RL because of social restrictions. So, women tend to repress their feelings and curiosities until they buried them so deep that they forget they have them. In SL, you can play with ideas, emotions and temptations without all of the social repercussions. I keep finding new things that excite me. This has opened me up as a person and has opened up interactions with my RL hubby. CD: “C”, why do you engage in SL relationships and what does it bring to either you or your RL marriage? “C”: I was very shy in RL and had a poor self image. In SL you can become anything you want to be. So, I learned to explore relationships in SL without all the baggage of worrying about what I look like. CD: and how has this helped you? “C”: I have learned to become much more relaxed around people. I just imagine everybody in RL as a made-up cartoon now, just like in SL. In fact, I often find that people in SL are probably closer to who they really are than many people I meet in RL. CD: and so this comfort has translated into your interactions with people in RL? “C”: very much so. It is like imagining that everybody is in their underwear, except that I am imagining they are all just caricatures of themselves. VR Style April 2010 Issue|27

I also interviewed several people who have fallen in love with their SL lovers and this has had some seriously negative repercussions on their RL relationships. So, my friends, it appears that SL relationships can be a double edged sword. If kept in perspective, it seems like SL relationships can significantly enhance ones RL relationships.

Roaring Hot Biker Wear By Nadia Felwitch 34 | VR Style April 2010 Issue

Along with spring comes the start of infamous Bike Rallies across the USA. What is a bike rally you might ask? It’s a time when fellow bikers from all over get together for a week in one central location, most of the time at a beach. Celebrations begin with week- long events of partying, contests, bike shows, bashes, stunt shows, parades, scenic rides, charity events, live entertainment, and much much more. When I saw the styles and designs of V-Twins this was the first thing that popped into my mind……..oh they are the perfect image for bike rallies! Ever heard of V-Twins? Well if not you’re about to…. I went to a biker fashion show awhile back and was floored with the designs of V-Twins. The uniqueness and realistic quality of the designs caught my attention rather quickly. This was definitely a designer that I had to capture and feature here in VR Style for all of our readers. I quickly contacted one of the designers Miley Chaplin, who I must say is one of the friendliest persons I have met in SL with a great sense of humor. Without hesitation Miley agreed to the feature so here we are ladies and gentlemen let me introduce you to the designs and the designers of V-Twins. And if you already know about them maybe I can bring to light a few things about them that you did not already know.

from V-Twins

s by: Roxie Richez

V-Twins is owned by Amigo Uriza and Miley Chaplin. Amigo lives in Europe and has a university degree in educational science. Miley is from Canada and has her own construction company. The two met in SL while they were out VR Style April 2010 Issue|35

shopping and hit it off becoming not only friends but also teaming up and began designing together in 2007. Amigo created their first custom outfit for Miley with her SL picture on the back. She then modeled the outfit and took photos. This was the beginning of V-Twins. Their inspiration comes mostly from real life designs. They told me “We try to follow a pattern that we have seen in SL or RL. Sometimes we end up with something more realistic, sometimes with something more fantastic than realist” Miley is inspired by her love for fashion in RL. The pair defines their fashion as “realistic” stating “We always try to stay away from cartoonish designs. We don’t use textures that we don’t think are real. We have given up on many designs that were nice, but not good enough.” Working as a team and texturizing with a very stylish and different methodology sets them apart from other designers. It’s been 3 years and they are still working together which helps them to be normally faster and able to release about 3 collections a week. Miley says “Our presentations are always honest. I try to find the right combination of light and poses to make our photo presentation desirable without too much effects from Photoshop. We feel that because we don’t Photoshop our pictures it makes us more honest. What you see in the picture is what you get in the box! A lot of designers spend too much time and put too much effort in photo shopping the presentation and then when the customer wears it, it doesn’t look the same. Unfortunately the presentation can make or break a designer.” I, myself find this very true, nothing upsets me more than to go waste my Lindens on a design and then trying it on only to find out it looks horrible on my body and nothing like the picture I saw in the store. Amigo and Miley share the same feeling that one quality in second life regarding apparel is always about showing and presenting your product realistically. 36 | VR Style April 2010 Issue

They understand and acknowledge each outfit not as the fabric or top and pants, but as a whole. Keeping this in mind they are able to see what parts are needed and what parts work best with the design. Knowing accessories always make the difference; V-twins were one of the first designers to supply sunglasses with their outfits that matched the style of the clothes. When I asked the two “What’s your favorite part in conceptualizing a design?” Their response was “The result and the details. Some minor details are important, like a different strap or ending on the fabric with different colors or clothing part with different textures. We also enjoy adding suggestions to each other’s design, because we are 2 people with feedback that’s why we are a team.” Amigo and Miley are currently working with gowns and developing aggressive skirt parts that make them look different from what we have seen so far, A little mixture between formal gowns and gothic gowns. The team at V-Twins advice to anyone new on the design scene “You have to be yourself and work hard and not look at competitors. Rather look at improving your skills on your own. The SL learning curve is better when you are yourself and focus only on your skills. It makes designing less frustrating when you do this because there is always someone that will be better than you.” At V-Twins you will not only find clothing but many accessories also. Anything you need to style yourself for that hot biker look. And if you’re like me and need help finding the right accessories to create the image you have in mind, they have the most friendliest and helpful in- store assistants. So time to rev it up and take a spin around V-Twins: http:// slurl.com/secondlife/Traffic%20Jam/177/113/32

MOTORCYCLING IN SL

BY RUSTY SEISENBACHER PHOTO BY KIMM 56 | VR Style April 2010 Issue

MIE RAYNA VR Style April 2010 Issue|57

The wind in your face, the sun in your eyes, the world a blur, the vibration throughout your body as you straddle the roaring monster between your legs. If you’ve ever ridden a motorcycle, then you know just what I’m talking about. SL offers anything and everything the imagination can conjure. There are many builders in SL such as Raver Designs, Jeff Coyote, F3 Motorbikes, Dragon Motorcycles, PAG Bikes, 666 Custom, SMS, MLCC, ACE, Jaz Bikes and many more. To find out something about this motor sport, we spoke to an up and coming motorcycle builder, Tanner Bloch, creator of T&T Choppers and to one of SL’s premier builders, Motor Loon, creator of MLCC. Both men in RL are Bikers so they bring that passion and authenticity that give their products the realism that put them over the top. While trying to provide an authentic experience, riding in SL has its limitations of course. Motor Loon: “ SL can’t provide the wind in your face (or the dead bugs, which is probably good enough). SL can’t provide the tastes, smells - or the feel of engine vibrations going through your body. We’ll probably have to wait until they put in the next Havoc physics engine for all that. “ Tanner Bloch: “My bikes are not able to do the flying crap that I see in most builders.” But then again, as Motor points out, “SL can provide other aspects though, the pride of owning a fine machine - without having to sell your house to afford it, the wonderful sound of the v-twin, the brotherhood among bikers, the sense of freedom and unimportance of time when rolling on a highway with no planned destination.” Tanner agrees with the affordability issue, “If you’re in SL and you’re a biker at heart then be the biker you are and if you don’t got rl money and the means to be a rl biker then you’re in the right place.” Looking around at the different shops, there is a dizzying variety of motorcycles, from bikes to trikes, from hyper realistic to ultra fantasy. You can buy them off the floor from $L100 to over $L5000, or if you have the means, get yourself a custom bike with a custom paint job. Some of the showrooms, like MLCC are amazing, much more than a showroom, with a business area and a work shop with lifts, welders and sounds. Tanner’s T&T Choppers offer 5 different models, while Motor’s MLCC offer a lineup of about 30. While these bikes all look amazing, some might want to customize their paint. Many of the builders do offer custom paint services, while a busy builder like Motor keeps a very short list of elite people “whose quality I feel I can vouch for, and not only that I also required that they had the right attitude regarding customer service, ethics and involvement.” For the untalented builder such as myself, a complex creation such as a motorcycle is most definitely an out of bounds, no way will I even think about it, multi-primmed nightmare of a build, not to mention the scripting and painting. For Tanner, it was a matter of 58 | VR Style April 2010 Issue

talking about it with his girlfriend and “well I and her went out and got the parts for them and I started making them.” Tanner doesn’t do his own scripting but does do his own painting. Motor on the other hand, writes all his own scripts, makes all his own textures, animations and sounds so that he can “keep my stuff at the quality I personally want.” A builder like Motor, who has been building for about 3 years, does keep his bikes up to date, improving the scripts and updating the looks. “Things in SL change so fast, what was state-ofthe-art a year ago is often close to obsolete today.” Neither of these guys seems to be into the clothing aspect much but a simple search returns many places for motorcycle leathers, pants and jackets. So, you want to ride... what do you do? Where do you go? Both of these guys tell you to come on out, speak to riders and jump on a bike. There are a number of motorcycle clubs and organizations too. TB: “I feel follow your heart and go with where it takes you for your imagination makes your SL as real as you can so just jump on one and ride.” ML: “Leave bad attitude and drama at home, and you’ll find a great bunch of people willing to make new friends and even help out newcomers get in the right direction if needed.” VR Style April 2010 Issue|59

In addition, Motor, as well as some other large builders, has land exclusively for riding. Motor demos all his bikes for free and you can test them out on the land surrounding his shop. For a small fee, you can join his group Regent Riders, which gives you, access to a large 11 connected sim area exclusively for riding, themed to the old American RT 66. Linden Labs does NOT have a motorcycle exclusive area. As Motor says, “Now and then you hear about people going to mainland to ride the long roads there, but because of the additional lag and the “joys” of sim crossings don’t make life easier for SL bikers ;-)” Motor also estimates that between himself and his SL Wife Melody Regent, they have around 110 sims providing both themed public space and non-themed private space. Motor himself has sales records of about 7000 unique names. Are you listening Linden gods? Lastly, every SL’er should check out the opportunity to ride a bike on the open road. It’s more about the state of mind and freedom. Given the proper frame of mind and a good ride, you too can achieve that here in SL as easily as you can in RL. VR Style April 2010 Issue|63

Clash of the Titans : Then and Now By: Ariel Lingiuan

Opening day, March 26, 2010…avid fans wait in line to view the re-make of the Greek mythology based movie… Clash of the Titans. This movie grossed about 4.2 Million during its opening day second to the movie “How to Train your Dragon” grossing 5 million and tying in 2nd place with Miley Cyrus movie from Nicolas Spark “ The Last Song”. Being here in Asia, we normally get the movie a day or two after the US premier, and WOW, opening day here in the Philippines last April 3, 2010 people were so excited to catch it in the big screen both in 2D and 3D. I dragged my entire family to watch the movie including the kids, my brother and myself would want to see the change from the 1981 flick. If you have seen the 1981 version, it was more of the triumphant love story between Perseus, the favored son of Zeus and Princess Andromeda, the beautiful daughter of Cassiopeia. The adventure that Perseus had in fighting the son of the goddess Thetis, Calabose, the stygian witches, Medusa and the Kraken was what the story is all about. The 2010 version showed more of the 68 | VR Style April 2010 Issue

adventure of Perseus and desire of Hades, Greek god of the underworld to dethrone is his brother Zeus. What are the changes from the 1981 flick? Let me enumerate them. • Argos was initially destroyed in the 1981 version, while in the current version they are saving Argos. • Perseus met Ammon in the Amphitheater who was a playwright, where in the 2010 story Ammon was a fisherman who raised Perseus. • Perseus was against Thetis as against Hades in the current one. • Calabose is the son of Thetis in 1981 and was not the King and husband of Perseus mother. • Hades wasn’t even present in the first movie

VR Style April 2010 Issue|69

70 | VR Style April 2010 Issue

• The Kraken is Poseidon’s pet in the 1981 movie and not Hades’. • Cassiopeia and Andromeda were not from Argos. • Bubbo the owl and not Io was their guide in reaching the stygian witches and Medusa’s lair • Io was not a character in the first one • Andromeda was Perseus love interest in the first movie and not Io. • The large scorpions was a product of Medusa’s blood and not Calabose’s Both Sir Laurence Olivier and Liam Neeson did good playing Zeus, but Liam is more compassionate, while Sir Laurence was more cunning. Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall in Harry Potter) played a vengeful Thetis and mother to Calabose in the first movie. Harry Hamlin as Perseus, in my opinion needs to appear more macho and god-like, while Sam Worthington appeared too combative but extremely gorgeous in the new movie. The new Kraken looks scarier than the sea-monster they had in the first one. Medusa in the new movie looks more like the beautiful girl that she was described to have attracted the gods then the monster like Medusa in her lair in the first. All in all, both are great movies, and worth watching. Grab your tickets and enjoy the viewing, It can help you be aware of Greek mythology and get hooked if you are not yet :) VR Style April 2010 Issue|71

Horoscop A

ARIES As you begin April, you will be coming off a particularly stressful full moon in your relationship sector. That moon put the control in the hands of a partner or competitor, not you. If you felt at a disadvantage, you probably were not dreaming. A relationship may have upset or disappointed you, and it may have left you wondering what to do next. Those born in March were most affected by this full moon that appeared March 29 (but that is still strong for the first days of April). If you are an April-born Aries, you may have had an easier time. TAURUS A work-related project seems to have come to a conclusion, and as you enter April, you may feel relieved that it is over. Take the first few days of April slow and easy. April will not be as busy as March turned out to be, so you can coast a little and enjoy life more. Saturn in Libra (a placement that Saturn took on October 29 last year) has added work to your shoulders, most likely because of cutbacks in personnel where you work. GEMINI Whenever there is a full moon at the end of the previous month, as we had March 29, emotions tend to run strong. So as the new month begins, you will likely still be thinking about what occurred. This full moon focused on your personal life - the person you love, or even a child - and brought a conclusion, ending, or major new development. That new moon helped you make a decision and move forward with greater certainty. If a cloud passed overhead at the end of March (possible, 74 | VR Style April 2010 Issue

pe for the Month of April 2010

Rajeesh Navarathna

due to the presence of Saturn, which was so close to that full moon), you should find April to be a better month. CANCER As April dawns, you may be mulling over your home circumstances and wondering how you got into this situation in the first place. It’s very likely unforeseen conditions put you where you are, and that you are doing the very best you can. The full moon that arrived on March 29 highlighted your frustrations, for that moon fell very close to Saturn, reminding you of how tightly controlled conditions have become for you. Saturn has been limiting your movements and choices, and you may be frustrated by what has transpired since the last quarter of 2009. LEO This will be a good, solid month that may include quite a bit of travel. The full moon that occurred on March 29 may have sent you packing a short distance, and if so, you seem to have had a goal to complete at that time. In fact, that trip might have been arduous in some way. No matter what you experienced, things will improve this month, as April seems perfect to send you further afield, to points very far from home, possibly even abroad. Spin your compass, dear Leo - it looks like you’ll be heading to the airport. VIRGO Saturn, the taskmaster planet that has been responsible for many of your trials and tribulations of the past two years, is moving back into Virgo this month for a brief 14-week stay, from April 7 to VR Style April 2010 Issue|75

July 21. During this phase you will do one more challenge. After that, you will be done with Saturn in Virgo for the coming nearly three decades. LIBRA You may be feeling relief now that you’ve made it to April. This will be slower, less pressure-filled month, and you will get a chance to take a deep breath and collect your thoughts. You are coming off a rather depressing full moon in Libra, March 29 plus or minus four days. That full moon made certain realities very clear in a kind of matter-of-fact way, which is never easy. Saturn fell very close to that full moon, giving everyone, of every sign, a sobering view of life, but because it appears in your constellation, you may have felt it more than most. As you begin April, you may still be thinking about what came up, but know that with every passing day in the first week of April you’ll be feeling better. SCORPIO Last month brought some heightened emotions to bear at the full moon, March 29, and you may have felt physically drained as a result of what was going on at the office. The moon was close to Saturn, and Pluto was in tough angle to the Sun, so no doubt you felt at the point where you were ready to crack if you didn’t get more support from higher ups around you. Happily, as you begin April, you will feel calmer and happier. VIPs are finally waking up to your need for support, and you suddenly find yourself in a prime position. Everyone wants you in their corner, even if they’ve had a strange way of showing it. SAGITTARIUS This month holds the potential for lots of interesting developments - in career, love, travel, and fitness - but Mercury is about to retrograde, so as much as you’d like to dive into activities and make decisions in a flash, you won’t be able to move quickly. In April, patience will bring benefits - don’t rush to announce or seal plans, even if others pressure you to do so. To make the most of April, you will need to know where the potholes in your path lie. You will be able to sidestep problems, but you’ll need to stay alert to do so. CAPRICORN IAs a Capricorn, your career and reputation are of paramount importance. Few signs are as willing as you are to put in the long hours of work necessary to see the outstanding results 76 | VR Style April 2010 Issue

you expect of yourself. Lately the pressure has been on you, due to a rare, once in three-decade position of Saturn in your tenth house of honors, awards, achievement, and fame. Responsibilities have been mounting and you seem to be in a phase where the nature of your job is about to change, and you will be asked to learn new skills and to aim toward higher standards. You are a natural leader, and you’re ready for these changes, but lately you seem to be a bit overwhelmed by all that has been going on.. AQUARIUS This month, Mercury, the planet of logical, rational thinking and communication, will shut down for a rest on April 18 and will resume normal functioning May 11. Before you even get to April 18 - as soon as April 8 - you will start to feel the slowdowns, cancellations, and random difficulties in travel and shipping that Mercury in retrograde brings, so you will have to be very organized this month. If you have any important negotiations or meetings, or a contract to sign, you must complete your actions in the first week of April to avoid problems with Mercury. If you cannot complete things quite that fast, then you would benefit by tabling all important agreements - even verbal ones - for May 13 and beyond.

PISCES As you enter April, you seem a bit frantic about money. You

may have found that when bills came due, you didn’t quite have enough cash to pay them all, or a business deal that you depended on did not go as planned. Whatever happened seems to have unnerved you in the last week of March. Not to worry. You have some really fine financial aspects this month to help you make up for any shortfall, and you may do better than you ever expected.
