Collaborative Partnership Vision

Early stage collaboration is the key to delivering on the client’s vision and supporting the overall project success. Artwork should complement the architectural design and transform the space into an inviting and uplifting atmosphere for patients, visitors, and staff alike.

During the initial stages of construction, project managers must take into account the importance of a preliminary budget for art, as well as other crucial items such as furniture, lighting, signage, floor and wall treatments, and other essential furnishings.

By engaging with the project teams early in the process, we collaboratively establish accurate targets and milestones, ensuring that art budgets and timelines are approached proactively rather than reactively, fostering seamless integration throughout the project.

Art Program Process

We help you minimize delays and lower costs with our in-depth understanding of the built environment.

We speak your language!

Our experience in art, architecture, and interior design allows us to apply our expertise to effectively support the work you do.

Considerations include:

• Blocking

• Lighting

• Hanging System selection and accessibility challenges related to installing art

• Exterior Art Features – Impacts of terrain and weather

Impactful Lighting

Ineffective Lighting

Blocking

Proactively designating artwork locations requiring blocking early in the design stages will avoid construction delays and additional costs due to change orders.

Hanging system selection and accessibility challenges related to installing art

Engaging an art consultant after design work is complete can limit artwork options and present accessibility challenges for installation and cleaning for infection control.

Exterior Art Features – Terrain and Weather Considerations

Early-stage coordination between the landscape architect, engineer, and art consultant is critical in addressing the impact of the terrain and weather on both the design and specified materials of a monumental art piece.

Supporting Diversity Initiatives

We help our clients support diversity with the commitment to representing artists of color, women, veterans, and artists with disabilities in their art program.

Artwork Budget Allocation

Anticipate project costs.

We work with you to understand your project’s scope, objectives, and deliverables and provide you with a preliminary budget, helping you and your client understand both the individual components of the art program, as well as the total cost.

Art Program Standards

Create art program standards that reflect the client’s values, priorities, and vision for each project in creative and meaningful ways.

• The selected works will reflect the need to constrain costs while providing the perfect combination of quality and value.

• A mixture of sizes and materials, including paper, canvas, metal, acrylic, and mixed media, will create a dynamic art program.

Seam layout is critical when planning custom graphics for wall protection

Wall Protection Installation

To ensure seams are less noticeable, our designated art consultant(s) will color-match the wall protection to paint and apply it to the wall before installation occurs.

Alternative Way to Install Dimensional Wall Artwork

A strategic way to ensure multiple holes are not drilled into a wall is to install dimensional wall artwork on large panels. This will help save facilities time and money in repairing the wall if the artwork is relocated.

Standardizing framing and hardware for the healthcare system will help create a cohesive feel for the art program and allow for seamless blending with existing framing.

Examples of framing and hardware standards:

All artworks include framing (if applicable) with the appropriate hardware.

• Framed paper

• Framed canvas

• Gallery wrapped canvas

• Framed metal

• Wood

• Acrylic

Artwork Special Care Instructions

Plexiglass Glazed Artwork: Plexiglass requires special cleanser that does not contain alcohol or ammonia. If alcohol-based cleansers are used it can cause the plexiglass to haze, scratch, and even crack under the right circumstances. Due to this we recommend that you use a plexiglass specific cleaner. Such as, “Brillianize Acrylic Cleaner and Polish”, “Novus #1 Plastic Cleaner”, or “Blue Ribbon PlexiClean”. Any of those three products are approved for cleaning plexiglass when used in conjunction with a soft microfiber cloth.

Canvas, Wood, and Metal Artworks:

We recommend dry dusting with a microfiber cloth. Cleaners can damage the canvas, wood, and metal and certain cleaners can even damage/remove the ink.

Wood Sculptures:

For general cleaning, we recommend dry dusting. If the object requires a deeper cleaning, we recommend using “Old English Wood Polish” and clean microfiber cloth. This will help to shine and protect the surface.

Metal Artworks:

When cleaning metal dry dusting will usually do the trick. There are certain metals that can be polished.

• Stainless Steel: “Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish”

• Bronze: We recommend dry dusting for cleaning.

Active Play Sculptures:

Active play experiences are part of a healthy lifestyle that parents want for their children. The outer coatings have been saftey- tested and meet ASTM (G21 and E2180) guidlines regarding antibacterial and antifungal properties.

• Do’s: Mild antibacterial dishwashing soap and warm water, soft cloths, and magic eraser.

• Don’ts: Abrasive materials and harsh chemicals (bleach and acetone).
