Shift through the register of left bank Bordeaux classifications in both standard and larger format bottles, then make an about face to Napa. Maintained in pristine cellar conditions and removed by Skinner staff. 1 Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1986 Pauillac u: into neck “The 1986 possesses outstanding richness, a deep color, medium body, a graceful, harmonious texture, and superb length. The penetrating fragrance of cedar, chestnuts, minerals, and rich fruit is a hallmark of this wine. Powerful, dense, rich, and tannic, as well as medium to full-bodied, with awesome extraction of fruit, this Lafite has immense potential. Patience is required. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2030.” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 01/98 1 bottle $700-1,000 2 Chateau Margaux 1990 Margaux, 1er Cru Classe u: five into neck, one bottom neck “I had this wine both in Seoul, Korea in February, and from my cellar in December, 2008, and it was remarkable how identical the wines smelled and tasted. It offers an extraordinary aromatic display of spring flowers, camphor, sweet red and black fruits, a hint of licorice, and no evidence of its 100% new oak cask aging. Round and generous with low acidity, but an opulent, full-bodied richness that is fresh with laser-like precision, this stunning wine is just beginning to reach its plateau of full maturity, where it should remain for another three decades. A sensational effort, it is one of the legendary wines made at Chateau Margaux.” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 06/09 6 bottles $4,000-5,000

3 Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1982 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe u: bottom neck “This wine remains one of the legends of Bordeaux. It has thrown off the backward, youthful style that existed during its first 25 years of life, and over the last 4-5 years has developed such secondary nuances as cedar and spice box. The creme de cassis, underlying floral note, full-bodied power, extraordinary purity, multilayered texture, and finish of over a minute are a showcase for what this Chateau accomplished in 1982. The wine is still amazingly youthful, vibrant, and pure. It appears capable of remaining fruity and vibrant in 2082! Thank God it is beginning to budge, as I would like to drink most of my supply before I kick the bucket. This is a great, still youthful wine, and, on occasion, one does understand the hierarchy of Bordeaux chateaux when you see the complexity and brilliance of this first-growth. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2050+.” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 06/09 1 bottle $700-1,000 4 Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1986 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe u: very top shoulder, very slightly protruding corks, lightly scuffed label “Deep garnet-black colour. An incredible array of aromas on the nose: blackberry, black cherry, tobacco, espresso, leather, black olive and loam. The palate is absolutely seamless from first impression to finish, effortlessly building layers of complexity in the mouth and leading to a very long, earth and spice finish. I can’t see how this could possibly be improved so have no alternative but concede perfection. Drink now to 2045+.” L. Perrotti-Brown for TWA, 100 pts. 05/09 2 bottles $1,200-1,600 5 Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1988 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe u: into neck 2 bottles $500-700 6 Chateau Cos d’Estournel 1986 St. Estephe, 2eme Cru Classe u: four into neck, one bottom neck, wrinkled capsules 5 bottles $500-750

7 Chateau Gruaud Larose 1982 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck “A massive wine that is clearly of first-growth quality in this vintage, the 1982 Gruaud Larose remains a youngster. A broodingly dense, thick, unctuously textured, inky/plum/garnet/ purple color offers up scents of beef blood, steak tartare, cassis, herbs, tobacco, and underbrush. One of the most concentrated wines of the vintage (as well as one of the most concentrated Bordeaux’s I have ever tasted), it is a huge, full-bodied, weighty, rich wine whose tannins are getting silkier and silkier. It appears set for another 30-40 years of life. This behemoth is a singularly profound example of Gruaud Larose that continues to justify its legendary status. Anticipated maturity: now-2050.” R. Parker for TWA, 98 pts. 06/09 2 bottles $600-800 8 Chateau Gruaud Larose 1986 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck, one very slightly protruding cork worn capsules, one scuffed label R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 01/03 2 magnums $400-600 9 Chateau Gruaud Larose 1986 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck, lightly worn capsules “Still tasting as if it were only 7-8 years of age, the dense, garnet/purple-colored 1986 Gruaud-Larose is evolving at a glacier pace. The wine still has mammoth structure, tremendous reserves of fruit and concentration, and a finish that lasts close to a minute. The wine is massive, very impressively constituted, with still some mouth-searing tannin to shed. Decanting of one to two hours in advance seems to soften it a bit, but this is a wine that seems to be almost immortal in terms of its longevity. It is a great Medoc classic, and certainly one of the most magnificent Gruaud-Larose ever made.” R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 01/03 6 bottles $600-900 10 Chateau Gruaud Larose 2000 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe R. Parker for TWA, 94 pts. 06/10 6 bottles $425-600

11 Chateau Lascombes 2003 Margaux, 2eme Cru Classe R. Parker for TWA, 94 pts. 08/14 9 bottles $350-550 12 Chateau Lascombes 2004 Margaux, 2eme Cru Classe 6 bottles $250-350 13 Chateau Lascombes 2005 Margaux, 2eme Cru Classe 6 bottles $300-450 14 Chateau Lascombes 2005 Margaux, 2eme Cru Classe 3 magnums $300-450 15 Chateau Leoville Barton 1990 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck 5 bottles $450-650 16 Chateau Leoville Barton 1990 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck 3 magnums $600-900

17 Chateau Leoville Barton 2000 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe R. Parker for TWA, 95+ pts. 06/10 12 bottles $900-1,500 18 Chateau Leoville Barton 2000 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe R. Parker for TWA, 95+ pts. 06/10 6 bottles $450-750 19 Chateau Leoville Barton 2005 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe 6 bottles $350-550

20 Chateau Montrose 1990 St. Estephe, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck “The final blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc was harvested between September 14 and October 3. The spring was cold, yet summer was extremely hot and dry—one of the hottest vintages since 1949. The fact that virtually no rain fell in September served as a catalyst to get all the grapes ripe and in cellars. Some bottles of this wine have a definite brett population that gives off the notes of sweaty horses, but this one did not. The ones I have had from my cellar—where I have had it frequently—are quite pure and clean. I suspect that the brett population is in all of them, but unless the wine hits some heat along the transportation route or in storage, the wine will not show any brett. This one tasted at the chateau, as well as those I’ve had from my cellar, have been pristine and not showing the sweaty horse notes that can be in evidence in brett populations that have flourished in the bottle because of external temperatures. This wine has an incredibly complex nose of spring flowers, blackberry and cassis liqueur, scorched earth and barbecue spice. It is fullbodied, majestic and opulent, with low acidity and fabulous fruit. It is close to full maturity. The wine should continue to drink well for at least another 30 or more years, but it is showing secondary nuances in the perfume. The wine is absolutely magnificent, broad, savory and mouth-filling. This is one of the alltime modern legends from Bordeaux as well as Chateau Montrose.” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 08/14 6 bottles $2,700-3,900 21 Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 1989 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe u: five into neck, one bottom neck R. Parker for TWA, 95 pts. 02/97 6 bottles $800-1,000 22 Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 1989 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck R. Parker for TWA, 95 pts. 02/97 1 magnum $300-450

23 Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 1990 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck “A remarkable vintage for Pichon Longueville Baron, 1990 is one of this estate’s two or three finest wines made in the last 40 years. Still inky/blue/purple-tinged to the rim, it reveals an extraordinary bouquet of charcoal, incense, creme de cassis, blue and black fruits, and a hint of licorice as well as an impressively long finish. While drinkable, its evolution is extremely slow, and I would not be surprised to see it last another two decades or more.” R. Parker for TWA, 97 pts. 06/09 6 bottles $1,000-1,500 24 Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 1990 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck R. Parker for TWA, 97 pts. 06/09 3 magnums $1,200-1,800 25 Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 2000 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe “This is one of the great wines of the vintage, and certainly a candidate for one of the finest wines made at this estate under the management of Christian Seeley and proprietor AXA. Showing incredibly well at two tastings of 2000s, the wine has a dense bluish/purple color and a beautiful nose of incense, melted asphalt, and creme de cassis as well as hints of new saddle leather and licorice. It is superbly concentrated and very pure, with excellent texture and opulence. The acidity seems low, the tannin high but well-integrated. This is a compelling 2000 that is just closing in on its window of maturity and should stay there for at least 20 or more years. Bravo!” R. Parker for TWA, 97 pts. 06/10 9 bottles $1,200-1,600 26 Chateau Pichon Longueville Lalande 1982 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck, lightly scuffed capsule, lightly scuffed label R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 06/09 1 magnum $1,000-1,500 27 Chateau Pichon Longueville Lalande 1986 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe u: into neck 6 bottles $800-1,000

33 Chateau Talbot 1990 St. Julien, 4eme Cru Classe u: into neck 2 magnums $300-400

29 Chateau d’Issan 2005 Margaux, 3eme Cru Classe “The more serious grand vin twin, the 2005 d’Issan, has a stunning nose of spring flowers, blackcurrant and blue/black fruits galore, and an impressively opaque dark plum/ purple color. With a rich, concentrated and pure mouthfeel, wonderfully sweet tannin, full-bodied density and richness, but elegance in abundance, this is a stunner, and one of the great Margaux of the vintage. Drink it now and over the next 20 years.” R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 06/15 3 magnums $400-500

34 Chateau Talbot 2000 St. Julien, 4eme Cru Classe 12 bottles $600-900

30 Chateau Malescot St. Exupery 2005 Margaux, 3eme Cru Classe “A beautiful wine, once again, from this property that has been on a superb qualitative roll for several decades. Dense ruby/purple with notes of graphite, background oak, youthful crème de cassis and blackberry fruit as well as a floral underpinning, it is medium to full-bodied, textured, rich and impressive. Still in a somewhat adolescent stage, it should hit full maturity in another 2-3 years and last at least two decades.” R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 06/15 6 bottles $500-750 31 Chateau Branaire Ducru 2003 St. Julien, 4eme Cru Classe one stained label “This fully mature, gorgeous 2003 Branaire Ducru possesses silky tannins, lots of cedary, spice box, floral, black cherry, forest floor and velvety leather-like notes, full body, and an opulent, complex yet elegant style. A beauty of complexity, richness and finesse, it should continue to drink well for another 5-6 years.” R. Parker for TWA, 94 pts. 08/14 6 bottles $250-350 32 Chateau Talbot 1986 St. Julien, 4eme Cru Classe u: four bottom neck, two very top shoulder, lightly scuffed labels R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 01/03 6 bottles $425-650

35 Chateau Lynch Bages 1989 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe u: into neck “The 1989 has taken forever to shed its formidable tannins, but what a great vintage of Lynch Bages! I would rank it at the top of the pyramid although the 1990, 2000, and down the road, some of the more recent vintages such as 2005, 2009 and 2010 should come close to matching the 1989’s extraordinary concentration and undeniable aging potential. Its dense purple color reveals a slight lightening at the edge and the stunning bouquet offers classic notes of creme de cassis, subtle smoke, oak and graphite. Powerful and rich with some tannins still to shed at age 22, it is still a young adolescent in terms of its evolution and will benefit from another 4-5 years of cellaring. It should prove to be a 50 year wine.” R. Parker for TWA, 99+ pts. 08/11 6 bottles $1,500-2,100 36 Chateau Lynch Bages 1989 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe u: into neck, nicked label R. Parker for TWA, 99+ pts. 08/11 1 magnum $500-700 37 Chateau Lynch Bages 1990 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe u: two into neck, one very top shoulder “This magnificent Lynch Bages has been drinking well since the day it was released and it continues to go from strength to strength. The biggest, richest, fullest-bodied Lynch Bages until the 2000, the fully mature 1990 exhibits an unbelievably explosive nose of black currants, cedarwood, herbs and spice. The majestic, classically Bordeaux aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, voluptuously textured, rich, intense wine with superb purity as well as thrilling levels of fruit, glycerin and sweetness. This beauty should continue to provide immense pleasure over the next 15+ years.” R. Parker for TWA, 99 pts. 08/11 3 bottles $600-900

38 Chateau Lynch Bages 1990 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe u: into neck R. Parker for TWA, 99 pts. 08/11 3 magnums $1,200-1,800

39 Chateau Lynch Bages 2000 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe “Beginning to open magnificently, the still dense purple-colored 2000 reveals a blossoming bouquet of blackberries, cassis, graphite and pen ink. Full-bodied with velvety tannins that have resolved themselves beautifully over the last eleven years, this wine is still an adolescent, but it exhibits admirable purity, texture, mouthfeel and power combined with elegance. One of the all-time great examples of Lynch Bages, the 2000 is just beginning to drink well yet promises to last for another 20-25+ years.” R. Parker for TWA, 97 pts. 08/11 12 bottles $1,500-2,400 40 Chateau Lynch Bages 2000 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe R. Parker for TWA, 97 pts. 08/11 3 bottles $400-600 41 Chateau Pontet Canet 2005 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe one wrinkled label “Possibly the youngest wine of all the 2005 Médocs in terms of its evolution, at age 10 the inky purple 2005 Pontet-Canet tastes more like a two-year-old wine. Loads of pure blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit are present along with a hint of licorice and background oak. It is full-bodied, ripe, and excruciatingly fresh, vigorous and exuberant. This is a tour de force, and a sensational effort that rivals the first growths. Give it another 5-10 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 30-40 years.” R. Parker for TWA, 97+ pts. 06/15 6 bottles $400-600

42 Chateau Pontet Canet 2006 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe “The 2006 is a wine to stockpile, especially for those in their thirties and forties as it needs another decade to reach maturity, after which it should keep for 30+ years. This vineyard, just south of Mouton Rothschild, has produced an opaque bluish/purplecolored 2006 with an extraordinarily pure nose of graphite, charcoal, sweet creme de cassis, and a hint of scorched earth. Incredible concentration, stunning richness, and a 60-second finish result in a wine that transcends the vintage as well as this estate’s 1855 classification. This enormously endowed, modern day classic is a legend in the making. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2050+.” R. Parker for TWA, 95+ pts. 02/09 12 bottles $700-1,000

46 Chapoutier Ermitage Blanc De L’Oree 1996 Northern Rhone “It is no secret that I adore Chapoutier’s luxury cuvee of white Hermitage called Cuvee L’Oree. Made from 90-year old vines and microscopic yields of 10-12 hectoliters per hectare, this wine flirts with perfection. It is a compelling white Hermitage. Made from 100% Marsanne, it is as rich and multidimensional as the fullest, most massive Montrachet money can buy. It is unctuously textured, yet extraordinarily and beautifully balanced. I suspect it will drink well early in life, and then shut down for a few years. It should last for 4-5 decades. The 1996 possesses some of the most amazing glycerin levels I have ever seen in a dry white wine. In short, this wine must be tasted to be believed.” R. The Phelps team kept this cuvee in 100% new French oak for 28 months. Its magnificent structure, intensity and purity of fruit, ripeness, balance combined with authoritative power and the magnetic appeal of this full-bodied, Bordeaux-styled wine are extraordinary. This amazing effort is just coming into its best years, and should drink well for at least another 15-20 years.” R. A selection of old world wines from a long-time friend of Skinner, punctuated with a collection of Raveneau Chablis. Removed from temperaturecontrolled, custom-built home storage by Skinner specialists. Further lots from this cellar appear in the Fine Wines & Spirits online auction. 58 Louis Roederer Cristal 2002 Reims “Seriously precocious nose with notes of apple blossom, fresh strawberries, clotted cream, cashews and lightly toasted hazelnuts plus a barely detectable hint of oak. Great concentration of apple crumble flavours with very fine bubbles and a crisp backbone of acid. Long creamy finish.” L. Perrotti-Brown for TWA, 94 pts. 05/09 2 bottles $350-500 59 Chateau Leoville Barton 2005 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe 3 magnums $450-600 60 Chateau Pontet Canet 2009 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe “An amazing wine in every sense, this classic, full-bodied Pauillac is the quintessential Pontet Canet from proprietor Alfred Tesseron, who continues to reduce yields and farms his vineyards biodynamically – a rarity in Bordeaux. Black as a moonless night, the 2009 Pontet Canet offers up notes of incense, graphite, smoke, licorice, creme de cassis and blackberries. A wine of irrefutable purity, laser-like precision, colossal weight and richness, and sensational freshness, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is capable of lasting 50 or more years. The tannins are elevated, but they are sweet and beautifully integrated as are the acidity, wood and alcohol (which must be in excess of 14%). This vineyard, which is situated on the high plateau of Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, appears to have done everything perfectly in 2009. This cuvee should shut down in the cellar and re-open in a decade or more. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2075.” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 2012 6 magnums $1,800-2,400

61 Chateau Pontet Canet 2010 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe “An absolutely amazing wine, from grapes harvested between the end of September and October 17, this blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot has close to 15% natural alcohol. It comes from one of the few biodynamic vineyards in Bordeaux, but you are likely to see many more, given the success that Tesseron seems to be having at all levels, both in his vineyards and in his fermentation/ winemaking. An astounding, compelling wine with the classic Pauillac nose more often associated with its cross-street neighbor, Mouton-Rothschild, creme de cassis, there are also some violets and other assorted floral notes. The wine has off-the-charts massiveness and intensity but never comes across as heavy, overbearing or astringent. The freshness, laser-like precision, and fullbodied, massive richness and extract are simply remarkable to behold and experience. It is very easy, to become jaded tasting such great wines from a great vintage, but it is really a privilege to taste something as amazing as this. Unfortunately, it needs a good decade of cellaring, and that’s assuming it doesn’t close down over the next few years. This is a 50- to 75-year wine from one of the half-dozen or so most compulsive and obsessive proprietors in all of Bordeaux. Is there anything that proprietor Alfred Tesseron is not doing right? Talk about an estate that is on top of its game! Pontet-Canet’s 2010 is a more structured, tannic and restrained version of their most recent perfect wine, the 2009. Kudos to Pontet-Canet!” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 02/13 1 magnum $300-400 62 Chateau Chasse Spleen 2005 Moulis-en-Medoc 12 bottles (owc) $350-500 63 Michel Lafarge Volnay Clos des Chenes 2005 Cote de Beaune “A beautifully elegant and highly complex nose of extract of dark berry fruit that is both elegant and complex serves as a dramatic introduction to the big-bodied, indeed even robust flavors that are firm, dense and incredibly concentrated, all wrapped in a palate drenching finish that just oozes dry extract and gives a velvety texture to the unbelievably long finale. This is a wonderfully gifted wine that has everything it needs to age gracefully for multiple decades and it will need 12 to 15 years in a cool cellar to really hit its stride. 68 Raveneau Chablis Montee de Tonnerre 2010 Chablis “This is pretty much spot on with my last review in 2012 save for the fact that it’s evolving a bit more slowly and I have extended the suggested initial drinking window accordingly. That review is: Almost invisible wood frames the pretty and impressively complex nose of dried flower, citrus zest, mineral reduction and tidal pool aromas. The well-concentrated mid-palate is quite round and supple though the focus is maintained as there is an underlying firm spine of acidity on the superbly intense and strikingly persistent finish. As it often is when young, this is really quite serious and it will require a few years to unwind and reveal all of its potential but make no mistake, this is going to be great in time.” Burghound, 94 pts. 06/14 1 bottle $150-200 69 Raveneau Chablis Monts Mains 2010 Chablis 1 bottle $100-150

70 Vogue Musigny Vieilles Vignes 2006 Cote de Nuits “This is also extremely floral with a reserved nose that is an airy, spicy and ripe mélange of red and blue pinot fruit that displays really lovely violet and rose petal notes that are picked up by the minerally, intense and harmonious flavors that are beautifully proportioned and are blessed with ample amounts of dry extract on the essence of pinot and explosive, energetic and hugely long yet incredible precise finish that is also built on a base of firm minerality. This is almost exotic in character yet everything is in beautiful concordance. In a word, great.” Burghound, 96 pts. 01/09 1 bottle $325-450 71 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape 2010 Southern Rhone “Interestingly enough, even though many of the 2010 Perrin et Fils selections from the southern Rhone were scheduled to be bottled right after my visit, the 2010 Beaucastel had already been put in bottle. This is a gorgeous wine, a classic blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise and the balance the other permitted varietals in the appellation. Deep purple, with loads of bouquet garni, beef blood, blackberry, kirsch, smoke and truffle, this wine is full-bodied, rich and showing even better than it did last year. I still think it needs 3-5 years of cellaring, and it should last for 25-30 years, as most of the top vintages of Beaucastel do.” R. Full-throttle Bordeaux: lauded vintages of first and second growth for drinking now/then. From the cellar of an astute collector. Stored meticulously in custom-built temperature-controlled cellar and removed by Skinner specialists. 88 Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1998 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe “A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, this wine represents only 34% of Lafite’s total harvest. In a less than perfect Medoc vintage, it has been spectacular since birth, putting on more weight and flesh over the last year. This opaque purple-colored 1998 is close to perfection. The spectacular nose of lead pencil, smoky, mineral, and black currant fruit soars majestically from the glass. The wine is elegant yet profoundly rich, revealing the essence of Lafite’s character. The tannin is sweet, and the wine is spectacularly layered yet never heavy. The finish is sweet, superrich, yet impeccably balanced and long (50+ seconds).” R. When I did my earlier tastings of the 2000, my projected maturity dates were 2012-2040, but it is looking more like 2020-2050. This full-bodied blend of nearly 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.4% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc still has a youthful ruby/purple color, notes of graphite, kirsch liqueur, black currants, and lead pencil shavings, with good acidity, the tell-tale purity, layered ripeness and intensity, and a profound finish. Exotic, perfumed and layered, with incredible kirsch, ground herbs, pepper and hints of olive tapenade-like aromas and flavors, this beauty is full-bodied and flawless on the palate, with ultra-fine tannin structure, building richness and a finish that just won’t quit. Given its depth of fruit, it’s a sheer joy to drink even today, yet will continue to knock it out of the park over the coming decade or more.” J. Freshly cut flowers, mint, spices and violets are some of the many notes that flow from this structured, powerful Barolo. The 2001 remains virile and incredibly youthful in its personality. Sweet balsamic notes develop in the glass, adding considerable depth and nuance. The San Giuseppe is a jewel of a wine with a bright, bright future. Today it is stunningly beautiful. 131 Clarendon Hills Astralis 2001 McLaren Vale “The 2001 Syrah Astralis Vineyard may be just as compelling as the 2002. Tighter because of being in the bottle, it is an extraordinary effort that offers the essence of graphite, blackberry liqueur, espresso, and acacia flowers, all combining into an olfactory smorgasbord for the senses. Sensationally concentrated, with sweet tannin, but neither weighty nor over the top as might be expected for a wine of such extreme richness, it is an extraordinarily welldelineated Syrah that should hit its prime in 10-12 years, and last for 30-40. Parker for TWA, 96+ pts. 12/10 6 bottles (oc) $450-600 135 Sine Qua Non Atlantis Fe 203-1a 2005 California “The perfect 2005 Syrah Atlantis Fe 203-1a,b,c is a blend of 93% Syrah, 5% Grenache, and 2% Viognier, with 25% whole clusters. Whereas the Ode to E is all from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard, this cuvee is a combination of 43% from the estate vineyard, 28% from the White Hawk Vineyard, 21% from the Alban Vineyard, and 8% from the Bien Nacido Vineyard. The good news is there are nearly 1,500 cases of this recently released offering. An extraordinarily flowery nose interwoven with scents of blueberries, blackberries, incense, and graphite soars from the glass. Although not the biggest or most concentrated Syrah Krankl has made, it is one of the most nuanced, elegant, and complex. It remains full-bodied, but builds incrementally on the palate, and comes across as elegant and delicate, especially when compared to many California Syrahs. Nevertheless, the intensity is mind-boggling, and the finish lasts for nearly a minute. Drink this amazing effort over the next 10-15+ years.” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 06/08 1 bottle $300-400

A sensational effort, it is performing even better out of bottle than it did from barrel. An opaque purple color is accompanied by beautiful notes of charcoal, acacia flowers, blueberries, blackberries, graphite, and subtle smoke. With great fruit, tremendous texture, and full-bodied power, it is locked and loaded. This cuvee should provide great drinking in addition to some provocative discussions over the next 10-15 years.” R. 141 Sine Qua Non Turn the Whole Thing Upside Down Grenache 2009 California “The 2009 Grenache Upside Down emerges from the glass with layers of dark red fruit as it sweeps across the palate. There is an inner sweetness and sheer depth that make the 2009 compelling. The 11% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre make themselves heard clearly in adding layers of depth and pure richness. Tar, anise and graphite meld together on the rich, dramatic finish. This is a striking wine endowed with tons of pure textural dimension. The 2009 was sourced from Eleven Confessions (72%), Cumulus (22%) and Bien Nacido (6%) vineyards. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2021.” A. A blend of 96% Syrah, 3% Roussanne and 1% Viognier, it was fermented with 16% whole cluster before spending just under 42 months in 100% new French oak. It offers an incredible array of sweet dark fruits, cassis, white chocolate, licorice and hints of bacon fat that meld perfectly with its full-bodied, seamless, layered and impeccably puttogether palate. Given the wealth of fruit here, it’s amazing how this stays light, graceful and elegant, without ever seeming over the top in any way. While there’s no shortage of tannin here, they’re sweet and integrated, so feel free to enjoy this rock-star effort anytime over the coming two decades or more.” J. Dunnuck for TWA, 100 pts. 08/14 “The current release of the estate vineyard (a.k.a. the extended barrel-aged cuvee), the 2010 Grenache Stockholm Syndrome is an incredible effort that I couldn’t find a fault with. A blend of 75% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 2% Roussanne and 1% Viognier, all from the Eleven Confession Vineyard, it spent just under 30 months in 22% new and 78% used French oak prior to bottling. Locked and loaded, it knocks it out of the park with its cassis, licorice, smoked duck, spice-box and exotic herb-styled bouquet. The palate follows suit and while it has the expected depth and richness of the estate, it’s seamless, elegant and lively, with perfect balance, ultra-fine tannin and a finish that just won’t quit. It doesn’t get any better and count yourself lucky if you can latch onto a couple of these. It will thrill for 15-20 years.” J. Dunnuck for TWA, 100 pts. 08/14 6 bottles $4,500-5,500

143 Sine Qua Non Dark Blossom Syrah 2011 California “The 2011 Syrah Dark Blossom showed even better from bottle than barrel. A blend of 84% Syrah, 8% Grenache, 4% Petite Sirah and the rest Roussanne and Petite Manseng, this beauty was fermented with 17% whole clusters and aged in equal parts new and used French oak. One of the shining successes in the vintage, it’s a full-bodied, concentrated and layered Syrah that has awesome aromatics of blackcurrants, Peking duck, pepper, licorice and charcuterie in its seamless, thrillingly pure profile. As with Manfred’s other 2011s, the tannins are certainly present, yet they’re sweet, polished and have no hard edges. Give this beauty 2-3 years in the cellar and enjoy bottles through 2031.” J. A blend of 75% Grenache, 12.5% Syrah, 11.5% Mourvedre and a splash of Roussanne (fermented with 11% whole clusters), it has a perfumed, complex style, with notions of black raspberry, cassis, dried flowers, white pepper and licorice giving way to a full-bodied, layered and seamless mouthfeel. There’s no shortage of fruit here, and while it’s hard to resist now, it has enough tannin to warrant short-term cellaring. It should knock it out of the park through 2029.” J. It offers stunning notes of blackcurrants, cassis, smoked meats, ground pepper and wild herbs to go with a full-bodied, unctuous, layered, yet always graceful and elegant feel on the palate. Nicely structured, with perfect overall balance, it still has the open-knit character of the vintage, yet has plenty of underlying structure, which at the moment is slightly hidden by the wine’s lavish fruit. 150 Domaine Pegau Cuvee da Capo 2007 Southern Rhone “For the fourth time, the Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo has been produced, and for the fourth time, it has received a perfect score although I might back off the 2000’s perfect score based on the fact that it seems to be more of an upper-ninety point wine than pure perfection these days. The 2007 may come closest in style to the 1998, the debut vintage, although the tannins are sweeter and the wine is perhaps fatter and richer in the mouth. The alcohols in these cuvees can be very high, ranging from 16.1% in 2003, 15.8% in 2000, 16.3% in 1998, to 15.5% (the lowest ever) in 2007. An inky/purple color is followed by aromas of smoked meats, Peking duck, licorice, lavender, aged beef, grilled steak blood, black currants, plums, sauteed cepes and soy. Enormously concentrated, broad, expansive and massive but not over the top, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is impossible to imagine unless one has a bottle to work through over the course of 4 to 5 hours. Although they advertise using all 13 authorized varietals, this wine is over 90% Grenache, largely from the famed La Crau section of Chateauneuf du Pape. They do have other vineyards from which they pull some of the fruit that goes into the Cuvee da Capo, including St.-Jean, Esquilons and occasionally Monpertuis. The 2007 seems to be broader, fatter, more unctuously textured and more flattering to drink at this stage than the 1998 was. In that sense, the evolutionary development may resemble their 2003s. The 2007 was bottled in February, 2010, and my anticipated drinking dates are 2014-2030+.” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 10/10 5 bottles $1,300-1,800 151 Chateau d’Yquem 1990 Sauternes, 1er Cru Superior “An extraordinary effort, Yquem’s 1990 is a rich and fabulously superb, sweet wine. This wine also possesses lots of elegance and finesse. The wine’s medium gold color is accompanied by an exceptionally sweet nose of honeyed tropical fruits, peaches, coconut, and apricots. High quality, subtle toasty oak is well-integrated. The wine is massive on the palate, with layers of intensely ripe botrytistinged, exceptionally sweet fruit. Surprisingly well-integrated acidity, and a seamless, full-bodied power and richness have created a wine of remarkable harmony and purity. Certainly it is one of the richest Yquems I have ever tasted, with 50-100 years of potential longevity. An awesome Yquem! Anticipated maturity: 2003-2050+.” R. 152 Chateau d’Yquem 2001 Sauternes, 1er Cru Superior “There are 10,000 cases of this perfect sweet white Bordeaux. The 2001 Yquem reveals a hint of green in its light gold color. While somewhat reticent aromatically, with airing, it offers up honeyed tropical fruit, orange marmalade, pineapple, sweet creme brulee, and buttered nut-like scents. In the mouth, it is full-bodied with gorgeously refreshing acidity as well as massive concentration and unctuosity. Everything is uplifted and given laser-like focus by refreshing acidity. This large-scaled, youthful Yquem appears set to take its place among the most legendary vintages of the past, and will age effortlessly for 75+ years. Anticipated maturity: 20102100+.“ R. Further cellar trimming from a long-time friend of Skinner, these lots are a dizzying selection of some of the world’s best wines: Ponsot, Chave, Marcassin, Schrader… the statement made from these 18 lots speaks directly to the keen eye of the collector. Removed from temperature-controlled storage for this auction. 153 Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1986 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe u: top shoulder, signs of old seepage, lightly scuffed label, very lightly wine-stained label loose at edge “Deep garnet-black colour. 05/09 1 bottle $600-800 153A Joseph Drouhin Musigny 2010 Cote de Nuits signs of old seepage “Here the fantastic nose closely resembles that of the Amoureuses except that the wood is more completely integrated. The suave and gorgeously rich middle weight flavors display superb precision and like its stable mate, the palate impression is one of pure silk. There is ample minerality on the fantastically complex and persistent finish and once again, this is a picture perfect example of power without weight. In short, this is absolutely a ‘wow’ wine.” Burghound, 94-97 pts. 04/12 1 bottle $700-1,000

An incredibly subtle perfume of black raspberries, creme de cassis, camphor, and acacia flowers is followed by an elegant, concentrated wine with beautifully integrated acidity, tannin, wood, and alcohol. This seamless, gorgeously-proportioned, large-framed wine represents the definition of finesse, elegance, and terroir. It will be drinkable in several years, and should last for 20-25 years.” R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 04/09 1 bottle $150-200 156 Chapoutier l’Ermite 2000 Northern Rhone signs of old seepage, wine-stained label “I grossly underestimated the 2000 Ermitage l’Ermite from barrel. This wine, which emerges from largely pre-phylloxera vines planted on the dome of Hermitage, adjacent to the chapel that is perched there so photogenically, possesses extraordinary finesse and elegance. It reveals notes of liquid minerals intermixed with kirsch liqueur and blackberries. While it never possesses the power and breadth of flavor of Le Meal or Le Pavillon, l’Ermite appears to be a hypothetical blend of Bordeaux’s Lafleur and Ausone as it always displays a certain austerity early in life. The extraordinary 2000 flirts with perfection. A provocative wine with great minerality, finesse, and delineation, it blew me away when I tasted it from bottle.” R. 157 Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape 2007 Southern Rhone damp-stained labels “Paul Avril was a bigger-than-life vigneron, a visionary, and a great teacher, but Vincent has been in charge for a number of years, and he has rewarded his father with what I believe is the greatest Chateauneuf du Pape made since 1978 and 1990, the 2007. I have not only tasted this wine at the estate, but I purchased it for my cellar, and have now drunk it on three separate occasions out of bottle. It is unquestionably one of the great Chateauneufs of my lifetime, and I suspect it will merit a three digit score after another 3-4 years of cellaring. The blend is generally 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, and the rest small amounts of Muscardin, Vaccarese, Counoise, and Syrah. It exhibits what is probably the deepest color I have ever seen here, and the finished alcohol is a high (for Clos des Papes) 15.5%. Still slightly restrained because of its recent bottling, but wow, what potential complexity, mind-boggling richness, and compelling flavor profile are apparent. It is a sublime expression of the art of winemaking as evidenced by its dense purple color and big, sweet kiss of kirsch, framboise, blackberries, licorice, roasted herbs, and smoked meat. It hits the palate with a fascinating combination of substance, power, full-bodied authority yet extraordinary freshness, elegance, and precision. Give it 3-4 years of cellaring, and watch it unleash its glory over the next three decades. This is a prodigious wine of great quality from one of the most important reference point estates in Chateauneuf du Pape.” R. Parker for TWA, 99+ pts. 10/09 4 magnums $800-1,000 158 Galardi Terra di Lavoro IGT 2001 Tuscany damp-stained labels, one slightly wine-stained label “The 2001 Terra di Lavoro is a stunning wine that is enjoying a most peaceful and positive evolution today. It delivers a level of complexity and elegance that puts it in a class of its own. The bouquet exhibits tertiary aromas of smoke, ash, licorice, cured meat and dried fruit. Those aromas show a fluid quality that is backed by energy and momentum. Wait a few moments and dried herbs, rosemary and mint rise from the glass. It shows a silky, elongated quality in the mouth with fine tannins and extra long persistency. Given how well this wine is holding up, it still has a long way to go.” Monica Larner for TWA, 96 pts. 04/15 3 bottles $200-300

159 Marcassin Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard 2009 Sonoma “The 2009 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard 181 is a gorgeous, clearly California version of a grand cru from Burgundy, such as Clos SaintDenis or Clos de la Roche. This deep plum/ garnet-colored wine offers intense berry fruit along with forest floor, spice box, earth and loads of plum, cherry and strawberry notes, moving toward darker fruits, as well as earthy, autumnal, foresty scents. The wine is fullbodied, with great intensity, sweet tannins and good acidity. Drink it over the next decade or more.” R. Notes of forest floor, jammy raspberries, blueberries, boysenberries and spring flowers are followed by a full-bodied, textured, layered mouthfeel, and great intensity, precision and freshness. This stunning 2009 is already showing considerable complexity, and should age effortlessly for 10-15 years.” R. The finish goes on for a good 40-45 seconds. This is sensational Chardonnay and very much in keeping with this vineyard. Drink now-2020.” R. Parker for TWA, 98 pts. 08/15 12 bottles $2,000-2,400

A passionate collector and long-time friend of Skinner drops a few gems into auction from a deep and inspiring cellar. Removed from private and professional temperature-controlled storage by Skinner specialists. 170 Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon Oenotheque 1990 Epernay 1 bottle $450-600 171 Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon Andy Warhol Label 2002 Epernay “The 2002 Dom Perignon is at first intensely floral, with perfumed jasmine that dominates the bouquet. With time in the glass the wine gains richness as the flavors turn decidedly riper and almost tropical. Apricots, passion fruit and peaches emerge from this flashy, opulent Dom Perignon. The wine’s volume makes it approachable today, but readers in search of more complexity will want to cellar this for at least a few years to allow for some of the baby fat to drop off. Geoffroy describes the vintage as very ripe and adds that some of the Chardonnay showed the ill-effects of the hot growing season in the somewhat burned, dehydrated fruit that came in that year. This bottle was disgorged in July, 2009.” A. Galloni for TWA, 96 pts. 12/10 6 bottles (oc) $1,200-1,500 172 Chateau Margaux 1994 Margaux, 1er Cru Classe u: into neck 2 bottles $600-800

173 Chateau Cos d’Estournel 2005 St. Estephe, 2eme Cru Classe “The 2005 Cos d’Estournel is another great success from this property, which is owned by Michel Reybier. A superstar of St.-Estèphe in this vintage, this wine has a dense ruby/purple color, beautiful, sweet cassis and blackcurrant fruit, some floral notes, spice and a touch of oak in a full-bodied, layered, impressive multidimensional style. The tannins are surprisingly sweet and well-integrated, as is the acidity, alcohol and wood. This is a beauty and certainly the top wine of St.-Estèphe. Drink it over the next 25+ years.” R. 175 Chateau La Mission Haut Brion 2006 Pessac Leognan “A somewhat under-the-radar La Mission, the 2006 was generally overlooked following the brilliance of the 2005. A young, dense purplehued wine that is developing beautifully, it exhibits notes of Asian plum sauce, charcoal, barbecue smoke, roasted meats, graphite and background oak. Full-bodied with good acidity, moderate tannin and a vigorous, powerful youthfulness, the 2006 will age more quickly than the 2005, but it still requires another 5-8 years of cellaring. Anticipated Maturity: 2014-2035.” R Parker for TWA, 94 pts. 08/12 1 double magnum $1,200-1,500

174 Chateau Montrose 2009 St. Estephe, 2eme Cru Classe “The final blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc was harvested between September 14 and October 3. 08/14 3 bottles $900-1,200

Probably years away from full maturity, the wine has an extraordinary aromatic profile of smoky meats intermixed with blackberry, creme de cassis, charcoal, lead pencil shavings and espresso. Dense, opulent and full-bodied, with terrific fruit, this is a showcase style of vintage for a wine of such great ripeness and massive intensity. This extraordinary effort displays oodles of glycerin and fabulous purity, while the oak has been completely absorbed. The cooler hillside climate of blue fruits and spring flowers is also present as the wine aerates in the glass. This wine has at least another 15-30 years of potential ahead of it.” R. Opaque purple-colored, it boasts spectacular, soaring aromatics of vanilla, minerals, coffee, blackberries, licorice, and cassis. In the mouth, layer after layer unfold powerfully yet gently. Still backward with a deep ruby/plum color revealing only a touch of lightening at the edge, the wine offers up an extraordinary nose of caramelized herbs, smoke, cedar, pen ink, black currants, and earth. The gorgeous aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, plump, rich, fleshy wine with low acidity. With 6-8 hours decanting in a closed decanter, it will offer beautiful drinking, but it needs another 5-8 years to reach full maturity. It is capable of lasting 50-60 years. The flavors are big, rich, refined, classy, penetrating and superbly powerful yet everything is in perfect balance and there is more than sufficient sève to balance off the still considerable tannins. The finish is intense, pure and so long that it is haunting; I could literally still taste this wine days later after I had it because it had such a dramatic and emotional impact. In its youth, this was one of the finest young Burgundies that I have ever been privileged to try and it only seems to get better with each passing year. For my taste, this is getting close to arriving at its peak but it’s not quite there though again, I stress that this is to my taste and some may find it to already be in its sweet spot of maturation. In short, this is absolutely brilliant. Note that while I have had relatively consistent notes, I have had two bottles that were a bit astringent on the finish and not in the class of what I describe above.” Burghound, 99 pts. 01/12 1 bottle $3,000-4,000

Founded in 1988 by John Hall, Goose Island has been at the forefront of the craft beer boom in the United States. Starting from scratch at a time when “microbrew” wasn’t part of everyday lexicon, Goose Island started to push the boundaries and challenge the American beer drinker’s palate. Ullage (Level of Wine) Illustration and Interpretations For Bordeaux, Port, and other shouldered bottles n. bn. vts. ts. hs. ms. lms. s.

ullage is into neck bottom neck very top shoulder top shoulder; usual level for Bordeaux older than 15 yrs high shoulder; usual cork reduction, often found in Bordeaux over 20 yrs, low risk mid shoulder; variation likely as indicates cork deterioration low mid shoulder; some risks, reflected in estimates shoulder; risky, reflected in estimates into neck bottom neck very top shoulder top shoulder high shoulder mid shoulder low mid shoulder shoulder

Ullage of wines of vintages fifteen years and younger may be assumed to be of bottom neck or better unless otherwise noted. Similarly, regarding older vintages, lack of notation indicates acceptable and appropriate ullage, clear label and sound cork; potential bidders must be prepared for reasonable variations in ullage in all vintages older than 20 years. Bidders with specific condition questions should contact the Fine Wines department. Conditions generally not noted on group lots. Bordeaux wines are cataloged referencing the 1855 classification. Chateau Petrus cataloging reflects the practice of granting it 1er Cru Classe and other notable Pomerol Chateaux are designated Cru Classe. All Bordeaux wines may assume to be chateau bottled unless otherwise stated. It is standard practice for Skinner/Lower Falls Wine to open all original wooden cases (owc) for visual inspection. The opening of banded cases will be determined on an individual basis. For Burgundy, German wines and all other more gradually slope-shouldered bottles, the ullage measurement is taken in centimeters from cork base, e.g. 3cm, 5cm, 7cm. Bottle Sizes bottle (750 ml) magnum (2xbt) marie jeanne (3xbt) double magnum (4xbt)

jeroboam (4xbt); Burgundy, Champagne jeroboam (6xbt); Bordeaux imperiale (8xbt); Bordeaux methuselah (8xbt); Burgundy

demi bottle (demi) split (1/4 bottle) Champagne

Buyers’ Caution: Levels are as when cataloged; ullage may change due to cork deterioration; other bottle conditions may occur during storage and shipment. Risk of ullage variation and cork deterioration and/or failure is assumed by the buyer at time of sale and no sale cancellations, price negotiations, or bottle substitutions will be undertaken by either Skinner or Lower Falls Wine. Similarly, no substitutions will be made due to inaccurate descriptions. Flights of Lots: Are of the same type, vintage and bottle count and follow one after another numerically, though ullage and bottle conditions may vary. The auctioneer may exercise discretion to offer, in consecutive lot order and at that same price, the following lots in the flight to the first successful bidder of that flight. Subsequently, those lots not purchased will be offered anew and so on. Absentee bids placed on any lot in a flight will be applied to the next lot in the flight (if unsuccessful), until the flight concludes. Environmental Note: It has only been in the last 15-20 years that the wine industry has moved away from using lead capsules to cover the cork and neck of a bottle. When opening an older wine, if you do have a lead capsule, give consideration as to how you dispose of it.
