Unno, sometimes the Sixth is late. Alright we REAL late but before the planned crucifixion; hear me out. As the editor it is owed to you the reader to never put out something that sucks. It’s one of those unwritten codes that we have to abide by as you the readers deserve the BEST of us always. With that said Issue 23 is not the same and there are a tonne of small changes to improve and take this thing forward. We take things back to the old school in an effort to touch the foundation. Speaking of which - ever since I got kicked out of Wallerfield by the psuedo governing body of motorsport almost 2 plus years ago I decided to rock back in order to observe a few things. From then to now it’s clear as day to me that motorsport; in Trinidad & Tobago; is roaming blind in the wilderness naked without a compass and the SOLE reason for that as per usual lies ultimately with the people charged with the responsibility of taking the sport forward as a community. From actions, there is no vision, there is no direction, there is no plan - there is nothing unless of course you are in certain quarters that consider painted concrete culverts, a power wash and BRC as genuine progress. But that is another story. In as much as there is abject failure, it’s not all salty. Real street enthusiast participation is properly growing especially with regards to drift and men jes doing projects for fun and that is the core focus of this issue; highlighting those men, those pure street builds which is what the underground is REALLY about. Putting aside the human crosses at the helm; motorsport or rather the wider tuner community is bigger than any one person(s) and there will come a time when those who are hell bent on stifling the people with their obtuse triangle thinking will be cast deep into the depths of Dante’s Inferno; until that beautiful day long live the street; God bless the underground and remember even though the Sixth is never on schedule it will always on time. Misrepresenting the facts about an incident that happened north on the U.B.H highway, Inshan Ishmael conveniently left out details about a situation and acted all salty and keyboard warrior belligerent towards an enthusiast because a bwoy cripsy, white A31 Cefiro pulled up to his bumper, rev’d and pressed out thus eating his GT86 food. Overcomed with sours and fraid to say he get eat out by RB, the Facebook rant (now deleted) backfired as whilst guffing up it was revealed that Inshan brakecheck the ceffy, used a phone while operating a moving vehicle to snap a picture and was cruising like a skoonks in the passing lane.

Ears to the ground and eyes on the guage; we’re having the REAL motion sports stuff that go fast people care about.

2018 GREAT RACE What a Great Race. We hand picked those words directly from the social medias as it aptly summarizes the 2018 installment of one of the longest running boat race in history (this race is almost as old as our independence). Celebrating 50 years; the Trinidad to Tobago staple, hosted by the Trinidad & Tobago Powerboat Association (TTPBA) and officially recognized internationally by the governing body of power boating TTASA; sorry - UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique). With the international component of UIM for the first time they had their officials here to oversee the proceedings alongside those of the TTPBA - the Great Race course itself is 104 miles; BUT, the UIM distance was 80.5 miles, so essentially it was a 2 in 1 kinda ting. Starting at 7:30 am by the foreshore, the staggered start saw the smaller boats head out first towards the Bocas passing in between Centipede and Gasparee Island, while the bigger gunners passed outside Gasparee. Everybody then passed through the First Bocas, headed up the north coast into Maracas Bay; before heading into Grande Riviere and then to Tobago where some went to the marker off Pigeon Point before they finished at Store Bay, while the bigger classes did a circuit before heading to the finish line. As always this is a race kids and all may not have finished - hell - some didn’t even start but no one can deny that this year was off the starboard bow fielding 32 boats; about 10 more than 2017; across 8 classes - up 5 from last year. In CLASS A (130mph), the big boy class with 7 rangers; 3 time champeen Motul Monster racked up yet another win by ripping the waves in 1:01:40. Crewed under a father & sons team not only were they fastest boat to ‘bago but they also set a UIM world record time of 00:47:43. Second at 1:09:05 was an international competitor by way of the Lucas Oil SilverHook outta the U-S of A who despite having electrical issues that had them 6th into the Bocas but once sorted made up for time as they hit the north coast. Jumbie returned after a 2 year hiatus and finally made it to the sister isle in 1:11:20 (3rd) despite getting a bit lost and duking it out with Mr. Solo Too who did it in 1:12:05 (4th). Iron Man; despite almost sinking a few months ago, rolled in a time of 1:18:00 and rounded out the men who finished. Who didn’t finish was Paramount after they broke an exhaust and Cat Killer who unfortunately damaged an engine. CLASS C (110mph) had an only chile in Global Warmer; representing South they showed real promise from out the hole but sadly they roasted a transmission and DNF. CLASS D (95mph) had a 15 min head start, different course, less distance, calmer waters and 4 boats in the beginning. Making it first to Tobago Bacchanal; although they had mechanical issued throughout the year, snapped 1st 1:10:58 followed by Energiza who claimed 2nd in 1:17:15 and Chris Gone

Wilder who despite breaking a trim tab finished in 1:22:06. Not seeing crab and dumpling was Ultra Rush after they suffered steering problems and called it a day. CLASS E (80mph) was technically the biggest class on paper but out of the 8 boats 1 DNS (Alien) and 3 DNF (Hammer Time, Blue Ice and Hero V) thus leaving 2018 National Points Champion Mobil Outlaw to claim the confetti in 1:12:50

followed by Heatwave (1:14:48) and Papi Chulo (1:18:55); who had to pit stop in the waters to sort out some issues in the North Coast - that 8 minute delay cost them. CLASS F (70mph) was lay-layed by Fire Chief II in 1:29:45 (1st) and Rite Formula in 1:31:45 (2nd) with Chris Gone Wild not finishing and Extreme Measures not starting. CLASS G (60mph) made it all about less being more as Limitless did it in 1:43:00 and Timeless in 2:24:55 which constitutes one of those better late than never times, Trident didn’t finish and Outcast never started. Last on the list were the boats in the 2 Cruiser Classes; for 60mph, The Legend Ms. Apple J was by sheself in 1:46:02. As for 55mph Ruff’n It digged the hole in 1:52:05 followed by Super Tuff in 1:58:05, the boat called Jesus is Coming never showed, which we are sure disappointed many of those in the congregation who sold their worldly belongings in anticipation.

A regular Clio that was sold in 3rd world markets like Columbia where is was the Taxi Express and Mexico where it was the Nissan Platina which loosely translates to plate. Other than that there isn’t much to talk about; oh, it came with a 1.4 as opposed to the 1.2 and some came manual with “fogs” and a sunroof.

A baby snorter that was happy to rev hard and chisel corners like dry coconut shell in the Clio Renault Sport/ or Clio RS. Coming stacked the RS featured a 2.0 DOHC 16v potating 170 hp @ 6,250 rpm x 150 lb*ft @ 5,400 rpm. In a car weighing just about 2100 lbs this thing barks thru the 5 speed manual like a pompek in heat. More niceness came via bigger 2 piston ventilated brakes in front & single in the rear; 13mm of wheelbase, 12mm more of front track and 16mm more of rear track. That meant wider fenders, restyled bumpers, side skirts, a full revise and stiffening of the suspension, tighter steering, bigger exhaust and 15-inch OZ F1 alloy wheels. Bomboclaat!

if we said that Mazda - the glorious car company that has brought you amazing cars such as everything Rotary, everything Miata and everything 626 - made an Evo before Mitsubishi made an Evo. It doesn’t register ent. What ribbish (not rubbish - ribbish) we talking ent. Rock so with we dotishness ent.

Because we can see your face from all here, there is no doubt that is the kind of battimamzelle reaction we would expect but make no mistake this car has the will to run up yuh chest like bhac-chac; down yuh back like tac-tac and harvest yuh corn in December. Kids - lewwe introduce you to a Mazda 323 GTX - a Group A rally car Mazda built in 1988 for the street. Oh and did we mention only 5000 were made and Trinidad has less than five; sorry that four we know about, two that we have ever seen and ONLY one like this. Ryan Jugmohan had an original GTX but what he didn’t have was a legit original GTX as the car had no rights. Wondering what to really do for some time, a passing pardna managed to tell him about a registered, driving car that was just beating dew in the bamboo. Knowing this was the opportunity he had been waiting for, Ryan made moves only to have the plan derailed when he heard the scorpion pepper price. Disappointed but not deterred Ryan decided to play the waiting game and returned a year later to find the car in the exact same place just MORE run down than before with a Z5 engine and the 4WD system condemned. Needless to say style could no longer buss and after paying a quarter of what they were originally asking Ryan was in the game. Working hand in hand with Monk Performance Garage EVERYTHING was scrapped from the unregistered shell, transferred across to the legit car and within a few months the road was buzzing with a freshly painted over, 132hp x 136lb*tq B6T powered AWD mongoose toting feelings. And because it was a GTX to GTX conversion the car sported the original stiffened side sills, lockable center differential, wider track, automatic ride height adjustable suspension and cruise control - basically from factory everything worked. A bigger cooler, 2 1/2in exhaust by Tom in Oropouche, RSR barrel and BOV for the pshhhht Ryan was out there. Soon the power to pass need kicked in but Ryan was in two minds as he wanted to keep the car original; it was then another pardna drape him up and let him know one time that is either originality OR power - it’s that simple. Choosing the latter, he went to Maztune who told him about a BPT engine they had that was missing a few parts. However, since the BPT from the GTX and Miata share parts everything wudda be suckeye to get; PLUS, with ting missing the price would less. Sounding like a plan, Ryan made the mistake many make when a deal come up - they stick and when went back a few days later the engine was gorn. Not totally out,

the facelifted, first gen. Škoda Octavia was an instant hit selling about 45,000 units. In Trinidad there isn’t exactly an abundance of people feverishly frothing for a Škoda - to be honest we really only know two people who ever owned one of these things; a family member concerning one of our writers who got his as a parental hand me down and this one owned by Alex Allum - which is - VERY HARD. It’s clean, it’s manual and it took guts. Like many, Alex was always into cars and really wanted to do something of his own that was different. As a tech at Sterling Motors in tong, he was constantly surrounded by Škodas thus spawning the deep love and appreciation for the Czech Republic brand that is actually owned by Volkswagen (#learnsomething). Being in the vein of a brand means you don’t stray far from the arteries and after an incident with his first Škoda, he decided to have another stab at this thing and go again. Now, it must be mentioned that deciding what to do the second time around was not easy. Alex took a while simply because in project life you have detractors and his friends pretty much tried to discourage him from walking the Škoda road again. Many even insisted with their outta timing selves that he should build of all things out there - a - Honda! Not taking on a soul, he jammed stick in his ears and pressed on with what is to be a champion build in our eyes. Rocking an original 1.6 engine at first excreting 100hp x 107lb*tq under 5 speed manual - mind you very few came like this to Trinbago. Alex started off with Streetline adjustable coilovers and a brake upgrade consisting of bigger rotors and calipers, both front and back, from the 1.8 turbo Octavia. To sweeten the stew even more the stock front rotors were enhanced via a Black Diamond setup that included cross drilled tawahs and ceramic brake pads. Making the car go more was as simple as a conversion and in this case Alex burned many ah gallons of midnight oil together with his dad installing a 1.8, 20 valve, turbo engine that he bought off a guy with a high trim Octavia. Since that car was automatic Alex had to use the 1.6 gearbox which probably wasn’t the best of ideas simply because the 1600 gearbox

RED HATCh Redemption Projects are meant to purge

people - it’s really that simple and building a project that does such technically requires paisaar (i.e. money - go learn your local language). However; you could have all the money in the world, if the energy that goes into the project isn’t from a good place or the people working on the car hand not clean or the mindset as to what this project is supposed to be and do isn’t straight then you are going to fail worse than a german cockroach in a KFC toilet first ting in the morning. That said, building a project when money tight like a Jordache jeans drying on galvanise is not something new to Winston Kerry. His first patay machine was a Datsun 720 pickup under a L18 with Dellorto side drafts; a modified camshaft that he got from his father’s friend off a trade for the 720 bumper; a dog leg gearbox and 4:9 diff. In the beginning for some reason the Dellorto’s were not keeping tune therefore the proper potential of the van was never realized until he dropped those out for some Mikuni’s and was game over for men by Valpark. The Datsun was later sold and he looked towards modifying a B11 his brother bought. Inside there was a bamboo 1500 engine where they installed some used 1300cc pistons to raise the compression, a set of cams from Sean Ready and brand new Mikuni’s which he got on credit from Rajive Sant. Four years later in 1991 that said Sunny; which was able to bark out 10,000rpm, went bye bye and Winston got one of his own. However instead of staying NA like before he decided to boost har up and with the skillz of Boyie at Hakim’s Garage in Princes Town; a lil something was put together on the stock 1500 engine using a LD20/ 2nd gen RX7 hybrid turbo and a 75 shot of Nitrous. Since a Sunny doh weight nuttin’; nuff 12.9 leddah pass like dry leaf in a hard breeze on race days - we talking Friday, Saturday on the street and at Sunday School up wallers for 8 years. Once again fun was more than had and he decided to sell but the price he was calling had men backing. So he did what ANY sensible racer would do - return the car to stock and sell that on one side, sell the engine and gearbox on the other; and parts out whatever was left in the middle. Recuperating his investment and then some; Winston elected to rock back; however, it wasn’t long before he got the itch and to scratch he bought a Hayabusa. Modded like all he rode for two years until a night he went to make some pulls and had an experience. Pulling up to the light, a voice kept whispering “Winston, this is not your line.” At first he brush it aside, but it nagged him so he rolled off to the side. No sooner than he did that, another biker rolled up and out of nowhere a car came lick him up. On seeing that it was immediate go home and the bike went up for sale the next day. Back to regular life, some time down the road Winston made a trip to Wallerfield with his son who was also into speed and they both saw nothing but Hondas making noise and going nowhere. Buzz killed they buss out and on the way back home, the offspring said something that essentially planted the seed for what was to come; “Dad, if you find Hondas so slow, why don’t you build one?” Sounding like a challenge, Winston replied “You know what - GOOD idea.” Looking for something clean and legit the main stipulation was that it had to be a hatch since it is much lighter and power to weight is going to play an integral role for that master plan. Endless looking around led him to a GSR with a B18C that was dead like your girl bubbles career. On top the chassis itself was “good” (more on this later) so he told the guy to keep the engine & box; he will just pay for the shell and

PROPERLY UNDERSTANDING DYNOS Alright lewwe cut straight thru the mangrove; there has long been this school of thought by many that a dyno is some magical device that helps a car make power. Well; sorry to burst the barrel of bubble, but that is the furthest thing from reality. A dyno or dynamometer and read VERY carefully; is simply; a device, used to measure the power output of a car at a given time under given conditions. That’s it. It doesn’t do anything else. It doesn’t break engines. It doesn’t rob you of power. It doesn’t help you make speed. It doesn’t make the world turn. It doesn’t boil senna to give you a purge - ALL IT DOES is be a measurement tool for power which is reflected on paper via torque and rpm. By the way; since we done here; in order for you to get a grip on the science you are going to need to grasp the following terms as you are going to come across them rather often - mind you for the sake of your sanity we are keeping these things really simple:

Energy is the capacity for anything to do work; in this case it is your engine’s ability to do de wuk.

Torque refers to the amount of work an engine can do. In order to make this easy, if you have removed a stubborn wheel nut; see the amount of energy it takes to break it with a wrench initially and hence forth take it out - that is torque. It is twisting force on an object and in the case of a car; it’s the turn force produced by the engine that is reflected at the crank. The more torque an engine produces, the greater its ability to perform work and that work is

Horsepower is how quickly the work can be done within a period of time and that is reflected in revs per minute. Look enough of the science definitions, we eating up space. As you can see; horsepower and torque are not exactly the same thing and cannot be used interchangeably although in math you derive one from the other using a simple equation. Torque is the measurement of the power it takes to move things and horsepower is the measurement of how fast it takes for that thing to move i.e. acceleration. Torque gets you off the line; power is what keep you going and since the dynamometer cannot measure horsepower directly it must first measure torque, and then convert the torque to horsepower using the formula Torque x RPM / 5252 = Horsepower.

KNOW YOUR DYNOS:

In the world there are many different types of dynos that measure many different things but in Trinbago when it comes to measuring the pure potency of your car or bike; there are: 1) Type: Inertia Dyno (Chassis) - Brand: Dynojet MAS Tuning (Audi), Couva - 636-0822 DYNOLAB, Williamsville - 756-6003 Fine Tuned Dyno (Garth), Arima - 681-9200 2) Type: Load Dyno (Chassis) - Brand: Dyno Dynamics Peak Performance (Prentice), Munroe Road - 291-5444 3) Type: Hub Dyno - Brand: Dynomite Drift Central (Prince) - 753-8962 Naturally each flavor dyno has a different taste and whilst they all do essentially the same thing, they do so different from one another and just so you know Chassis Dyno read power at the wheels.

The more torque an engine has the better it’s ability to do work i.e. the more energy it has and that’s why it’s referred to as “pulling power”; also, torque has no sense of speed in its measure, only the amount of twisting force being applied.

Work is the result of a force (torque) acting over some distance. So remember that nut. Let’s say the wrench is 24in long and it takes 50lbs of pressure to break the nut; technically you have just applied 100lb*tq (50lb x 2ft). Now let’s say the nut refuses to budge, you go get a piece of hollow pipe to extend the wrench handle 2 more feet - that’s now 200lb*tq (50lb x 4ft). The extra torque makes breaking the nut easier ORRRR makes the amount of work required to break the nut less allowing you to do it in a shorter space of time.

1) The Inertia dyno | DYNOJET: we are sure there is an explanation on what inertia is and how it works in an issue before, but for the sake of learning; Inertia is basically the resistance of any physical object to any change in its state of motion. On an inertia dyno; you roll your car onto the drums/ rollers with the wheel making proper contact and the car/ bike is then accelerated thru the rev range until it is in the 1:1 gear (either 3rd or 4th depending on car) and there the engine is carried up to wide open throttle (WOT). Since the weight of the drum is a known constant, the computer attached to the dyno monitors both the rate at which the drums accelerate and number of times the drum is rotated via the wheels in a given time frame (RPM). It is from this we get the values that horsepower is calculated from. An inertia dyno works only when the car is accelerating and since acceleration is dependent on friction it would stand to reason that any factor that affects the coefficient of friction at the wheel (grip); since it is the only thing in contact with the drums, is going to have an effect on your final results.

Rawle MURREL When and where did it all start for you in the life?

My beginnings in the life of being a motorhead started early with my grandfather who was really into American big blocks. Then my mom had a heavy foot so the Vauxhaul Victor we had, she used to put it through its paces. Then for weekends I used to spend alot of weekends around my uncle Kenrick Bhola who had a Suzuki 750 w/ a saw’d off exhaust. Also when I was about 9 years old my Dad made it when we reached Curepe, he would scoot over on the bench seat in the Kingswoood and let me drive to school up Maracas St. Joseph.

What were the disciplines you were involved in and which appeals to you? Outside of street I have been involved in drifting as a judge; rally as an announcer; solodex and drag & wind as a competitor for a brief time and as for drags let’s say that my car competed. Out of all I would say that rally and drifting had the most appeal to me. For rally I was given a stage drive and the intense concentration of those drivers is unreal; they are on a different level. All I saw was grass, tarmac, grass, dust, corner and tree. As for drifting it is totally different especially with the whole body coordination.

What was your FIRST race experience? My first race was in 1990 driving a PAE Mitsubishi Galant 1600 against my friend Karl with his PAJ Galant. 17 and invincible; we were both blasting up the EMR (Eastern Main Road) around 11:00 a night and just after WASA there was a truck parked on the side of the road in the dark. The race prematurely ended - we both lived - but that was it.

What have been your projects? Currently I drive a six speed manual, 2006 Audi A4 Quattro. I bought this car because of how it looked and as my first Euro I dove into this thing blind but I must say it has been the best experience I’ve had. Before was a Subaru Legacy which was a great handling car; a VR4 with Nitrous that I spent way too much money on and a Rover 200 which is Trinidad & Tobago’s longest running project. Oh and a SR20DET box Lancer which would go straight for nothing.

What was something that impacted you as far as you can remember? That would be Frankie Boodram’s yellow Ford Escort with the massive wing and side flairs. During we 80’s we lived in San Juan mere minutes from Speedway and that place was THE HUB for motorsport in the north. If you were not seeing the Lamborghini parked up; which was THE EXOTIC back then you were seeing a showroom/ garage filled with race cars.

What would be the most important thing in getting a project right? Figuring out the end goal and what do you want to achieve. Whether it is visual, performance and by extension performance street, track or a combination of the two you need to plan properly and definitely look at your pocket. It all boils down to what you want to get out of it but one must remember that when you put together a project doesn’t matter what it is, you are doing it for you. That is YOUR car.

If is one thing

that we at the Sixth have learned; sometimes rather contentiously, is that ever so often - as in ONCE in a blue moon a car comes around out of nowhey (no where; just so you know we know the Queen’s English as well) that makes us at the magazine do a full re-evaluation of how we approach things. However, Rabindranath Swaratsingh..................yes, that is his government name. Of course we sure. Obviously we ketch our nen-nen to pronounce it, unique names like that usually are, can we continue - fadda. Anyways; if you know anything about the name Rabindranath it represents people who love to live in the moment, put forth a bright outward appearance and stress on the importance of aesthetics i.e. they love beauty. On his own steam Ravi; which is what people call him in real life, embodies NONE of those characteristics himself physically but he has channeled that very said universal energy of representation into his projects and raising this - the cleanest, most simplest, most beautifulest, most Nissan Lucino in the Caribbean. Cars like this made baby Jesus cry and such has been the case with anything named project that Ravi has ever undertaken. When he first jumped out in the life he started with a car that was in the family; a 1988 Mazda 323 ( aka PAX / PAY / PAZ 3-2-3) that his Dad bought as a retirement gift to himself and passed onto Ravi when he came of age. As the last chile, who we all know seem to get everything except licks; Ravi dove head first into the home of used car parts - the bamboo where he got stuff that would make his 3-2 stand out above what was out there. We talking full GT headlights by tail-lights, wrap-around bumpers, sport interior with the supportive seats and rims. Now; you may look at these things as slight but at the time those things were a big deal as the local cars were rather basic. Nobody knew there were different parts for them, modifying JDM was a thing and parts were cheap. From there he converted the car to manual, sliced on some side drafts, cams and extractors - sold the car and betrayed the Mazda brand by buying a GA16 powered B13. Subsequently it was Nissan after Nissan going down the road starting with a SR20DET manual conversion in a P11 Primera having the works; then a Kouki Nissan S14 with some small upgrades; followed by ANOTHER Kouki with same small modes which he sold 2 years later to year to a friend who was looking for something to build a drag car. Naked in the wilderness and haunted, Ravi decided to do a Euro as a change, so he bought an original 2001 BMW E46 318i that was formerly owned by double M himself; Machel Montano and tried his hand at turning that into a M car from

Ambika BERNARD Opz, calm down - no need to be so excited unno. Although off the bat we must say that your teeth have awesome structure; what yuh forged out with Wiseco or Eagle? ROFL; c’mon I must be excited, it is SixthSpeed after all and this is something I never expected. In case you haven’t realized finding females who drive manual and blaze the people pavement like a C16 bushfire harder than finding a complete titanium exhaust from Mugen for a CRX in the bamboo. So where can we say you picked up this shift love from? Pretty much all my life I have been watching motorsport and it was ALWAYS very interesting to me. I can remember going to alot of events both race and display; standing there and just being fascinated by the shifter and wondering how manual used to really work. Even hearing the gears change when cars were moving was a big thing for me when I was really young. Interesting, so tell us when did you official start in the ting? The first car I ever learned to drive was a manual 120Y. My uncle owned a mechanic garage in Grande and he taught me in the beginning. After that I went onto get my license - IN MANUAL, then purchased my first car - an automatic EG8 Civic. What kinda lazy man ting is that an automatic EG8, we hope it was at least an SiR - c’mon redeem yourself. No it wasn’t an SiR - LOL. It was just a regular EG that many of my friends used to call the dinosaur because it had a carbureted engine. But I didn’t care, I loved that car. After that, I moved to an automatic, drop low EK3 with a ZC head and block and then onto what I have now. Annnnnnnnnd what do you have now cuz yuh looking rather shaky eh? Oh, a 96 Honda Civic with a B18C Type R, S80 gearbox, Mugen exhaust, DC2 suspension, RMF headers, whale penis intake and some other minor boltons. I also have some parts hoarding right now but that’s a secret, I want to learn the car as is before I make any more addition. You had us lil worried there, we were almost about to rack up this lil session. What was it like driving manual after all those heap ah automatic grass cutters? Aye! Lol. To be honest When I bought the car I had somebody drive it home for me because I really couldn’t remember how to drive manual after being in automatic for so long. ; however after having the car and practicing for about an 1 hour everything came back.

car still around but if you had a B11 back in the day there was no guarantee you would keep it as this was the car men used to outright tief out of people dreams. Not parking just any and everywhere, Kiran Kalipersad’s grandmother used this car for the usual daily duties as a housewife. Brand new from the firm, the Sunny was freedom, not to mention fun with the manual and carbureted 1500 engine. However, in her later years she developed Alzheimer’s so not only did she lose the ability to drive but there were instances when she ventured out and either forgot where she parked or how to get back home - yes, kids Alzheimer’s is real and it is a bee-itch. On seeing that, she went to live with Doms parents (Dad is her son) along with the car for the simple fact that even though she couldn’t drive - she LOVED that little car to pieces - just seeing it was a big deal for her and her spirit. At home, Dominic aka Kiran Kalipersad began taking care of the car in his own little way; we suspect washing and polishing and when the big one - seven rolled over, his Dad gave him the all clear to use the car and when he can afford - pay for it. Keys in ignition, the first bodywork ever on the car was done in 2007 by Daren Bahadur (go check Issue 22 if yuh have it - mwahahahahahaha!) and with a light blue blowover, the B11 went on to be about that car show life under music, lights, drop low; unno, everything anti SixthSpeed. But as they say, nights are darkest before the dawn and after a while Dominic came back home to the speed light seeing that his Dad was a rally driver back in the day. The first thing done other than empty out the rice was modify the suspension with coilovers from a K10 Super Turbo March (front only). According to Dominic it worked fine, not to harsh and was a way more credible modification than telling men you have chop spring. Later on, he discovered that N16 Pulsar coilovers would work; however, the boltup to mount the shock onto everything below was off. This meant he had to change the B11 spindles to B15, which oddly enough allowed him to keep the B11 axles and mount B15 velocity joints. Already down below, the brakes were upgraded to B15 rotors and calipers which worked well until he discovered 4 piston R32. But the braking bias was right so he downsized to double piston calipers and matching rotors off the Nissan T30 Xtrail; all that needed to be done was a redrill from 5 to 4 hole and a small 5/16in machine down so it could clear the calipers. Increased pressure to activate the clamping force came from an Almera master cylinder and Nissan U14 brake booster. Out back the ming-pi-ling stock drums were now not cutting it and after wondering what to do, he came across a partner working at a machine shop who mounted P11 rear rotors & calipers onto his Mazda 323. Eyes wide open, Dominic properly maco’d the setup; went home and realized that his rear wasn’t that much different. Armed with pencil and cardboard, Dom drew out the pattern to check clearances, headed to Bick’s the next day and got everything he needed for $100.00. Back at home, he removed the original hub; carried it by said partner where the machine shop cut the outer lip of the brake drum leaving behind the center piece with the studs and bearing allowing the rotors to just slip on. The caliper however wasn’t so simple; it required a bracket which Dominic had 2 make twice as the first time he took measurements the car was jacked up, so when he dropped, nothing lined up and the caliper was jamming against the shock. While on the brakes, he also installed SS lines custom made by ESWIL and poly bushings bought at Aditi Sportline. At this point everybody was buzzing in his ear to build the 1500 with boost but most didn’t take into account that E15T parts were hard to get. Realistically, it would be easier, faster and cheaper to just buy a bigger engine and slap it een. He was one foot in, one foot out for the longest while and it was only after attending a Drag & Wind event in 2012 did he commit to the power process after seeing the kind of fun men were having. Talking with brethrens about powerplant had him going thru the list from GA16 to everything SR and while every option had potential, to him the best bang for buck would have been a SR20DET out of the Pulsar GTiR with a FWD big spline LSD box; besides having the highest torque figure out of all SR at 210, it was already 227hp in stock form. Mentally settled on that he went to the bank, got cash and pumped up to the bamboo by D’ One Stop Auto. There; while waiting for the men to organise, the question as to what car it was going in came up.
