the Teddy Bear was developed along with many other toys. For more than a century scientists have been debating whether Giant Pandas actually do belong to the bear family or whether they are more related to the raccoon family or perhaps a separate family of their own. But recent DNA analysis indicates that Giant Pandas are most definitely of the bear species although different enough to be put into its own sub family. The red pandas are more closely related to raccoons. Giant Pandas are categorized in the bear family (Ursidae) while Red Pandas are categorized in the raccoon family (Procyonidae).

They live in mountain ranges that are r ich i n bamboo at elevations of between 4,00012,000 feet, because bamboo is the basis of most of the animal’s diet. They are also easily disturbed by the presence of humans. They tend to be solitary with a home range of 2-3 m iles. Males and females may overlap home ranges, but males do not overlap ra nges w it h ot her males. C u r re ntly t he re a re on ly about 6 small populations with a total of about 1000 animals.

Physical description

The giant panda, a black-and-white bear, has a body typical

of bears. It has black fur on ears, eye patches, muzzle, legs, and shoulders. The rest of the animal's coat is white. Some scientists speculate that the black-white fur provides effective camouflage into their shade-dappled snowy and rocky surroundings. The panda's thick, wooly coat keeps it warm in the cool forests of its habitat. Many people find these chunky, lumbering animals to be cute, but giant pandas can be as dangerous as any other bear.

Destination: Wolong National Nature Reserve splendor attracting world attention.

Plants Located in the alpine valley where the Tibetan Plateau transits into Sichuan Basin, Wolong National Nature Reserve has become China's largest and certainly the most important sanctuary for giant pandas and other rare and precious animals and plants during the climatic fluctuations of the ice age. Primitive forest and original ecosystem here are well preserved, and therefore the Reserve is appraised as a rare genebank in the world or a natural park. The subtropical damp climate provides favorable conditions for forest and vegetation to grow. According to relevant statistics, there are more than 4,000 plant species.

Physical Features The Reserve lies in the east slope of Gonglai Mountain, and the alpine valley where the Tibetan Plateau transits into Sichuan Basin. The Reserve slopes drastically from northwest to southeast. Mujiang Ground in its east section, the lowest point, has an elevation of 1,200 meters while the highest point Siguniang Mountain with an altitude of 6,250 meters. Despite their direct distance of 48 kilometers, their relative height difference tops 5,000 meters. There are 101 mountains with an altitude of over 5,000 meters. Drastically tectonic movement and erosion have formed a number of valleys in the shape of V and steams flowing smoothly. All of them constitute a scenic

Recipe: Bamboo shoot and snap pea stir fry with bacon The other half of the bamboo shoot can be used in a stir-fry or a miso soup. Here’s a simple stir fry that uses another spring vegetable, snap peas. The bacon makes it not very vegetarian. You can leave it out for a vegan version. 1. 1/2 small to medium cooked bamboo shoot (about 4 oz / 120g), sliced 2. 2 cups snap peas, de-veined if needed and trimmed 3. 2 slices bacon, cut into small pieces 4. 1/2 cup white parts of spring or green onions sliced These crisp shoots of tropical bamboo give a sweetness and

pox vaccine is applied to the nose. For those who do not develop the necessary immune reaction to the vaccine, drinking bamboo shoot soup might help. Patients bearing stones should not eat too much bamboo shoot because of its high oxalic acid content. Those with spleen and stomach-asthenia should not eat too often too. Cone-shaped and light-colored, bamboo shoots are usually sold canned or dried in Chinese or oriental provision stores and supermarkets. Once opened, shoots can be stored for up to two weeks if they are transferred to a tightly sealed container, immersed in water, and kept in the refrigerator immediately. Otherwise, they will become tasteless and limp. Change the water daily. Canned bamboo shoots can be eaten as they are, or readily be used in Chinese cooking. Fresh shoots are sometimes available in Asian markets, however they must be parboiled or they will be toxic. To prepare raw bamboo shoots, cut them into sticks, cubes, or slices and cook them in lightly salted water

Adieu Ma Concubine (Chen Kaige, Chine, 1993)

GENRE : Drame Historique

Dudou:

Chinese Ancient Brassiere

For thousands of years, Chinese women and kids have been wearing this traditional underwear called "Du Dou," which literally means "belly cover." It is usually made into a diamond shape and its lower part into reserved triangle shape to cover the belly. Lace is placed near the neck and the waist to be fastened and to accentuate the curves of the torso. The material of the lace can be silk, cotton, copper or even gold. Sometimes the "Dudou" has a pocket. Women will put some Chinese traditional medicine for health care. The traditional Chinese embroider y pat ter ns could also be fou nd on "D udou". Desig n s of t iger s, scor pion s, sna kes a nd geckos were embroidered to ward off evil spirits. Themes of love, such as lotus and pairs of mandarin ducks, were also common on bellybands. "Dudou" seems to be the most enduring and popular underwear. It lasted until the introduction of the brassiere in the 20th century.

History of Dudou

Legend has it that one of the most famous Chinese

Four Beauties, Yang Yuhuan, the concubine of the Emperor of Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 907), invented Dudou. A lot of ancient paintings depict her in this sexy lingerie. These ancient bras were a com mon u ndergar ment du r i ng the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) and also in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911). Dudous are cut very simple - just a square or rhomboidal piece of silk with ribbons that tie around the neck and the back. Traditional dudous were mostly made of silk yarn or crepe edged with brocade. Young women would use brightcolored brocade of red, pink or green. They would also embroider f lowers, butterf lies or mandarin ducks which symbolize love on the front of dudous. This colourful lingerie would be completely concealed beneath abundant outer layers by "decent" women, though some daring dressers might allow a small edge to show through - anything more and they would be considered a loose woman.

10

Modern Dudou Hundreds of years later, women are no longer constrained by the same concepts of how they should dress. They are more comfortable about showing off their beautiful figures. This Chinese version of corset is making a comeback. People all over the world are wearing it as fashion, not only as an underwear, but also outdoors as a top. This trend has caught on in both men and women. (See men’s dudou)

The dudou that was a hidden part of women's attire in the ancient times has become the daily wear of the bold and vanguard young ladies in summer. Two thin strings are tied behind the neck and a knot is also casually tied on the back. The navel is discernible at one moment and gone the next behind the diamond-shaped cloth. Foreign fashion designers have taken the dudou to the catwalk - Versace presented a traditional Chinese version, Versus designed a dudou of pink leather and Miu Miu unveiled a summer collection with many garments that had hints of the dudou. Many movie stars like wearing this sexy lingerie. (See stars’ dudou)

If you don't like the sport and are not trying very hard people will not notice you as much. Even if it isn't your favorite sport or you're not very good at it, try. Guys like girls who try new things, give it their all, and don't give up. 8. Show off your flexibility. Many guys think that flexibility is sexy, if not just feminine. (This may be due to the stereotype that strength is masculine and flexibility is feminine.) During any break in the game, do a stretch that shows off your most f lexible joints, apparently out of boredom or staying limber. Don't bend over and touch your toes (this destroys hamstrings.), instead, playfully do a split or back walkover, or simply show off your hyper extended elbows and knees and bend your fingers backward. File photo of Li Wenge

Plain Beauty: Beijing Details Six years ago, Li moved to Beijing from his hometown in central China's Hunan province for work. But since 2006, he has taken hundreds of photos across the city of seemingly ordinary things: a poster at a bus station, toys in a market, bicycle riders, chairs. Now let's have a look at some of his photos.

It's easy to think of Beijing as a series of landmarks: the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven.
