ALEXANDER CHURCHILL – Grand Prize Awardee 70th A•ONE Connecticut-based artist Alexander Churchill states; “Art and it’s creation lies at a confluence between a curiosity for the extra-mental physical world and a curiosity for the internal world of the self. My work is an attempt to interpret and express those curiosities and their relationship to each other in a way that is relevant to my own time, place and experience quality.”

JEREMY STENGER – Grand Prize Awardee PAINT 2021 Brooklyn-based artist Jeremy Stenger finds inspiration in the botanical aspects of Matisse’s cut-outs and Ellsworth Kelly’s line drawings of plants. Stenger creates all-over images of plants and flowers that leave the eye with no specific place to focus. The artist repeatedly layers paint onto the surface of the canvas and removes it within particular outlines, imbuing the works with a relief-like quality.

FUTURE EXHIBITS

FUTURE PERFECT/IMPERFECT: THE NEXT CENTURY April 30 - June 9 This exhibition, one of the highlights of Silvermine Arts Center’s centennial celebration, juried by independent curator and critic Lilly Wei. This international exhibit will commemorate the organization’s many past achievements by looking forward. She is asking artists to submit (remarkable, original) projects in any medium, stylistic mode, or genre that reflect their vision of what that future might look like, how it might be manifested.

GUILD SUMMER SALON June 25 - August 19 A cenntenial celebration of creativity, the annual Summer Salon will give the community a chance to view the newest creations of work from guild members. This exhibition is a hybrid of works in different mediums, styles, and concepts that will appeal to both collectors and designers. Buyers can choose to take purchased artwork at the time of sale and not wait for the close of the exhibition. The gallery will be keeping extra inventory to replace pieces as sold.

RENOVATIONS

The gallery spaces have undergone several renovations and cosmetic changes in the past few months to commemorate the art center’s centennial year. A fresh coat of paint adorns the gallery store ceilings. The dark charcoal draws the viewer’s eye down to art and product. The back room of the galleries has also been transformed. We have expanded the rack system for improved organization and capacity of art inventory. The flat files have been organized to house and consolidate the Gabor Peterdi Print Collection. Gallery Assistant, Danny, enjoys a new space to work as well. We have added a new window and desk at the far end of the back room, allowing for natural light and air circulation.

STORE The gallery store offers a wide selection of gifts for all occasions and many decorative objects to enhance any interior. New and emerging artists have joined the lineup of impressive vendors represented by Silvermine. These are just a few of our new artists. Shopping for Artisan made original items in the gallery store provides support to both Silvermine and working artists.
