2012 Mesa Community College Men's Soccer Head Coach Drew Guarneri Andrew Guarneri enters his fifth year as the Head Coach of both the Mesa CC men’s and women’s soccer programs. Guarneri established the men's soccer program at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in 1998 and coached through the 2006 season. He also coached the women at CGCC from 2000 through 2006. His teams produced three All-Americans, four Academic AllAmericans, and one National Team Award for Academics. Guarneri was named ACCAC Men's Coach of the Year for 2003 and ACCAC Women's Coach of the Year for 2004. He also won Phoenix Women's Sports Association Coach of the Year for 2005. Guarneri has also coached a multitude of squads in the Gilbert Soccer Club since 1995, and has a great deal of playing experience. He competed while attending Butler University in 1989, at Drake University from 1990-1993, with the Des Moines Menace of the USISL in 1993, the Arizona Sahuaros, a D3 Pro League team in 2000, and finally, the Banat Arsenal, a competitive adult league team from 2001-2007. Guarneri obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at Drake University in 1993, and a Masters of Science in Public Programs and Recreation Management from Arizona State in 1996.

2012 Mesa Community College Men's Soccer Assistant Coaches Assistant Coach Anthony Presnell

Anthony Presnell enters his third season as an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Mesa Community College. In addition to coaching at Mesa, Presnell is the Varsity Boys Head Coach at Red Mountain High School, coaches several teams with Gilbert Arsenal Soccer Club and is the Assistant Director of the Arsenal Youth Academy where he is in charge of the curriculum development. He's also a staff coach with the Arizona Olympic Development Program. Presnell graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing. While at NAU he founded the NAU Men’s Soccer Club, now a self-sustaining non-profit interscholastic sports program with over 200 members. He also coached various age groups with Flagstaff Soccer Club, assisted with the Flagstaff High School Girls Soccer program during their state championship year of 2007, and was an assistant with the Coconino High School Boys Soccer team in 2009. Presnell holds a USSF “C” License, and was the 2011-12 Mesa All-City Boys High School Coach of the Year.

Goalkeeper Coach Jorge Galdamez

A native of El Salvador, Jorge Galdamez has extensive soccer coaching and playing experience both in his homeland, as well as the United States. Galdamez, who earned a Bachelors' degree in Computer Science from UCIrvine in 1998, grew up in Newport Beach, Calif. Prior to coming to the U.S. he played for El Salvador's national youth teams and then played five years for FAS in that country and served two years at the National Academy Camp for the national team. Galdamez has been coaching youth soccer for over 15 years, including five years with the Olympic Development Program in Southern California. Along with his duties at Mesa he coaches the Gilbert Soccer Club and is the goalkeeper trainer.

2012 Mesa Community College Men's Soccer Assistant Coach Kevin Burke

A former player for Mesa head coach Drew Guarneri, Kevin Burke has been a local high school coach and is well acquainted with soccer in the Valley. Burke played for Guarneri for two seasons at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and then played three years at Incarnate Word, an NCAA Division II program. He graduated in 2009 with a B.A. focusing on Sports Management. He was head boys coach at Horizon Honors High School in Ahwatukee, AZ., for two seasons and then switched to Mountain View High School in the spring of 2012. He currently attends Arizona State University where he is working on a Masters in Higher and Postsecondary Education. He intends to pursue his Doctorate in Sports Studies with a focus on Sports Theory. Burke holds a USSF D License. He also works from home as an independent distributor for Advocare, a health and wellness company. He enjoys watching and studying soccer, cycling and spending time with his niece and nephew.

Assistant Coach Matt Horton

A graduate of Mesa Community College, and former player, Matt Horton joins the soccer coaching staff for the first time. Horton played for the Thunderbirds in 2010 and 2011 after a three-year playing career at nearby Apache Junction High School. He has coached at Cactus Canyon Junior High School as well as an assistant girls coach at Apache Junction.

Assistant Coach Brian Ronan

Brian Ronan, a former player at Mesa Community College, has joined the MCC soccer coaching staff. As a player, Ronan set the single-season assist record of 13 in 2001. That mark still stands. He went on to play at Grand Canyon University and played for the semi-pro Arizona Saguaros, a team that won the Soccer and Professional Development League national championship. Along with his duties at MCC, Ronan is the head coach of the Gilbert Soccer Club. He has also previously coached at Mountain View High School in Mesa with the girls' program as well as with the Mesa Soccer Club. He holds USSF C and D Licenses. Ronan graduated from Grand Canyon with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy.

AT SKYLINE First team all-city as a freshman and senior. Played for coach Bycott. PERSONAL Julio Becerra was born Oct. 24, 1993 in Oakland, Cal. He is the son of Julio and Maria Becerra and has not yet selected his major. He has a younger brother and two older sisters.

Took 13 shots for the T-Birds while playing mostly in the midfield. Arrived as a walk-on and had a solid year. Looking for he and Joshua Zavala to be the stalwarts in the midfield. AT mOUNTAIN pOINTE Honorable mention all-section playing for coaches Meyer, Hough and Sabato. PERSONAL Jose Arreguin was born Sept. 22, 1992 in Granada Hills, Cal. He is the son of Arturo and Estela Arreguin and has a brother, Alex, 26 and two sisters, Yvette, 22 and Sandra, 30. He volunteered at the St. Mary's Food Bank and was a camp counselor. His major is undecided.

2012 Mesa Community College Men's Soccer

Few, if any, NJCAA schools have had the overall success of the Mesa Community College athletic program. Through the end of the 2011-12 season, MCC teams had won 16 national championships in seven different sports, either won or shared 127 conference and region titles and have produced an amazing number of individual accomplishments. MCC athletes have won All-America recognition an incredible 242 times including athlets from every sport the school sponsors. As recently as 2007 Mesa won the Pepsi Cup, emblematic of the top overal athletic program in the NJCAA.
