BIOGRAPHY & DESCRIPTION My name is Antonio Laranjeira. I am a 38 year old professional systems administrator living in Portugal. I am an enthusiastic photographer best known for my landscape photography works, however, about eighteen months ago I discovered the Historical Villages of Portugal network. Created in 1994 with EU support and f u n d i n g i t i s c o m p r i s e d o f 1 2 villages encompassing centuries of history in the central region of Portugal. Carefully renovated over the last twenty years to conserve their history and traditions they are one of our national secrets and biggest tourism assets. Real people living in real homes conserving the unique arts, traditions and heritage of their village, definitely not Disneyland. I have fallen in love with these villages and start shooting there often. These project take me out of my comfort

zone, no landscapes, beaches, water and rocks but everyday life and the heritage in these villages. So far I have visited half of them. I think it will take many years to complete this task...I intend to photograph all of them, recording the images for posterity. I don’t have unlimited time, sponsors or money but am determined to finish this task which hopefully one day will result in a book or an exhibition. It’s an honour having the first part of this project published by SHOT! Magazine, sharing this photos and places with thousands of photography lovers around the world. This work is also a tribute to the generations of ordinary people who helped to built and preserve these unique villages for later generations to enjoy. Thank you. BIOGRAPHY Claudio Lobo is Brazilian and living in S達o Paulo. He is electronic engineer, business consultant and photographer for expression since 1981 in the last six years only in digital photography.

G E O M E T RY Geometry is present in everything. Knowledge and creativity blend lines, surfaces and volumes. Beauty is in the harmony of the geometric composition. Mathematical abstraction aside, the images that I have produced for this essay, at the same time that they depict, they invite you to realize the geometric shape in what you see. The photos get more interesting when they contextualizes the moment of the subject depicted. A curve or the color of a building, for

instance, can have a different aesthetic value on different dates. A good example to investigate urban geometry and its temporality is S達o Paulo. From an unimportant village 400 years ago, S達o Paulo has become, in last 100 years, a major and the most populous city of Brazil. Urban Geometry is the reporting of images of the shapes, lights, shadows, textures, reflections and colors that symbolize the geometry of constructions, the geometry of the interiors and the geometry of life.

BIOGRAPHY I was born in 1971 in Italy and became interested in photography in my early 20s, when I was still a student, with some borrowed equipment: a fully mechanical slr camera and an old B&W enlarger. I share and follow the school of thought of the great Italian photographer Gianni Berengo Gardin, who considers his work as a means of documenting society. This led me to observe with an increased interest what happens around me, listening carefully to the life stories of the people I come across.

VAL DI NON (NON VALLEY) It is farmers’ custom to keep an old stove in a utility room in the basement, in order to be able to cook, when needed, things such as tomato puree without stinking out or splattering their home. In mid September, a few weeks back, I was spending a few days in our old family home in the countryside (in a valley called “Val di Non”), located in the Trentino-Alto Adige region in Northern Italy, and famous for its apple plantations), when I heard a rattling noise coming from the basement, where my uncle keeps, as it happens, an old gas cooker. I went down the stairs, opened the door and found my uncle’s two Romanian apple pickers absorbed in the preparation of “Piftele”, one of their traditional dishes (spicy meatballs with garlic and potatoes).

And there you are, right in front of my eyes a scene that, with the help of a dim light coming from a bare bulb hanging from the middle of the ceiling, took me back to the past in the blink of an eye: a black-and-white-movie footage, at a time in which families, just gotten out of the austerities of wartime, used to live in simple, often improvised, dwellings.

BIOGRAPHY My name is Alex and I was born in Verona 31 years ago, I grew up thinking and seeing the world in my own way and often mocked for this. I carry out a normal life with my girlfriend and my dog, of course accompanied by a photograph! I get close to it about 5 years ago convinced by street photographer, but as time went on I realized that they were the faces, expressions, moods transmitted from the body to give me true emotions, to involve me. I figured this portrait specifically dedicated to the environmental portrait, erotic and sensual which, I do not want the male gender but can not be better expressed if not by the female body.

I do not think “Arrived” I do not think a photographic genius, indeed...I always turn the attention to the great cinematographer and have new guru of it. I do not like to do great deeds of post production and for this reason I chose (a little style, a little to diversificarmi) not to use the famous “Photoshop” but rather his younger brother and less powerful if we want to “lightroom” with which we are thousands and thousands less chance but I think there are the basics that lead us to say two things... shooting the photographer sees it before taking the picture and a picture is “wrong” to (for those who snaps) has only two real phases of post-production “move to trash” “empty trash”

MISERABLE Miserable is born with a set noir tone from the outset, the beautiful Refen Doe knows how to give colored emotions even if taken in black and white.

The bar...often associated with the crude, the infamous here gives a hint of sadness that adds to the excitement of sensuality that the model can give.

BIOGRAPHY Moroccan photographer and filmmaker Achraf Baznani carries on the traditions of Surrealism with his wild, imaginative, and wholly impractical imagery. Among his inventive scenarios, small human figures -often the artist himself- appear trapped within glass jars or the size of a camera lens; in other works, Baznani more or less dissects his body, as for example, in one, he cleanly removes his brain from his cranium, or in another, twists off his hand, much as if it were a light bulb. Imparted throughout such works are strong senses of humor and wonder, and as such, Baznani’s art offers a Surrealistic take on life experience in the digital age. A self-taught artist, Baznani has no formal photography education. He lives and works in Morocco.

Statement regarding my works: Conceptual photography is, first and foremost, about the concept of the photo. A conceptual photographer is trying to bring some message about to the viewer, be it a political advert or a social commentary or an emotional outcry. There is some level of abstraction, thus, in my works: the image is not an explicit example of the concept, but a general expression of the idea. Conceptual photography makes healthy use of graphical symbols to represent ideas, movements, moods, anything and everything that the photographer might want to include in the message of their photograph. For my works, there are a variety of ways a concept falls into place, most often it starts with a spark of inspiration and grows from there, whether it is a person, design, story that needs to be told, regardless, it all starts with a single point. From there it becomes simple problem solving. I don’t spend very much time looking at what other people are doing. I like to stay aware and connected to what others are doing by following sites such as Flickr...but beyond that, I spend the rest of my time meeting people, creating, and really just living life. I think the best way to being inspired is not to just try to emulate others, but to find what inspires you in life and trying to capture and share it. I use Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 4. I use Lightroom to correct and change the colorimetry pictures. Then I go on to the most important Photoshop retouching. To learn how to master these tools, I spent hours in front of my computer to study the tutorials available on the Internet.

BIOGRAPHY I am a Chinese-born Canadian. Currently I am living in Vancouver BC. For a long time, I have explored many aspects of traditional visual media - specifically oil painting, sculpture, installation art and digital media such as 2D and 3D design - and this has brought me great satisfaction. Gradually, I became intrigued with photography. I would like my work to look something in-between realist and surrealist. I want everything that happens in my photos to be based on real life but there are still some small amounts of odd or strange elements going on there... For me, making photos is a way to catch the mood of the moment through the lens, and show this mood to the world. I use my lens to catch the mood and I also like to enhance the mood in the final work. My goal is when people see my photos, they can read the emotion that I try to describe in my work. I won’t say that have to have a story behind each scene, but having an atmosphere permeating through my photos is what I always try to achieve.
