Larry Wolf, former broker and co-owner of Shorewood Realtors, has long lived in and given back to the South Bay. True members of the community, he and his wife, Lynn, were recently recognized by the Richstone Family Center for exemplifying Richstone’s mission of “service beyond self ” in their commitment to furthering child welfare. We applaud their service, and sat down with Larry to discuss real estate, his predictions for the market, and his inspiration for giving back.

You started out as an aeronautical engineer before switching to real estate. What was the impetus for the change? Living in the South Bay, it was impossible not to be interested in real estate. Even though I was working full time in engineering, I decided to take a night course to learn more about the real estate business and ended up taking the state exam and getting my license. From there, I became a part-time agent and after three months I loved it so much, I quit my engineering job and the rest is history. That was in 1971 and I never looked back. It’s been a great career and I feel blessed that things turned out so well.

And now you have an impressive 44 years of experience in South Bay real estate. How has the local landscape changed in that time? hear people complain about overbuilding and traffic, but in my mind, the South Bay is still a great place to live and work, so I guess for me it doesn’t feel like it’s changed that much. Compared to other communities in Southern California, I wouldn’t consider anywhere else.

You and your wife, Lynn, were recently honored at the Richstone Family Center’s twentieth annual “An Affair of the Heart Gala.” (Congratulations on that, by the way.) You’re also on the Richstone Board of Directors. How and why did you decide to become involved with Richstone? We’ve always been involved in various charities but Richstone has become our main focus. I was asked to join the Board 10 years ago and the more active I became with the center, the more impressed I was with the work they do and how many lives they touch in a positive way. It’s a great organi ation and, like all non-profits, needs support from the community it serves. Lynn and I are honored to be recognized at this year’s fundraiser.

Looking ahead, what do you see for the South Bay real estate market in the next 5 or 10 years? The South Bay will always be an active and dynamic market. We have a great school system, safe streets, clean air and amazing beaches. The 105 Freeway allows people to work downtown or on the Westside with a reasonable commute. We are no longer a “well kept secret.”
