LaRRy (Joe) stout Who they are, Where they’re going: Joe joined ASM Tech from Mason County Central High School. While attending West Shore Community College, he earned an Associate of Arts degree. Next fall he plans to attend the Kelly School of Business, located at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, where he will major in accounting. voted by his peers: Most likely to have the best excuse; best dressed What Will you miss most about asm tech, or What is your Favorite memory?

• What I will miss most about ASM is the instant comradery. Although there

were distinct groups, everyone bonded so quickly. I met some of my best friends in ASM tech and I would have never met them otherwise. I’ll miss the instant friendship provided. • I really liked that we HAD to form friendships because we were around each other SO much. • I will miss having a group to belong to • I will miss being able to see my beautiful best friend (Grace) every day and being able to go on our cute little coffee/sushi/thrifting dates after school • I’m really going to miss all the support and care that everyone gives in ASM Tech. • My favorite memory of ASM Tech was seeing everyone work together towards Student Summit. Although we didn’t hold it this year, we

were so dedicated to making it better than any that we had been to. • Having Paula’s guidance and baby steps. My favorite memory was going to college visits and eating some good college food! • I enjoyed the Michigan State College visit for the Friday core time. It was something new for me during ASM Tech’s core time and I had fun touring the college with everyone. • I will miss the support system the most. There was always a friend I could turn to in our little group of misfits. We all held different roles to one another and no one had any serious conflicts. I never had an environment where I felt so welcome and encouraged before, so it’s definable that feeling I’ll miss. • Seeing my friends that I

developed late in ASM. • My favorite memory was probably Friday CORE Time with Tony, we brought in our fancy chairs and were the kings of Pictionary. • I’ll miss the support that I get from everyone. Even if I didn’t know some people a lot, a smile in the hallway or a simple hello was something that boosted my spirits that day. • I will miss seeing my friends that I have made over the last three years. • Paul Bilinski :)) • West Shore in general and friends • I will miss not having to pay for my classes. • The benefits of free books/ tuition and all that jazz. • Panic Monster video • Some of the people, especially Paula • I think throughout the

past couple months I miss the every other day core times where we get to pick on each other and to get to know more people. • I’m going to miss hanging out with everyone during Core Time. There were lots of fun times and I don’t know what I’m going to do without everyone’s goofiness. • When Caleb had to do push-ups in front of the class when the emergency response lady came to a Friday core time. • I will miss being able to have the same classes as my friends from ASM Tech. • Free food • My favorite memory from ASM would probably be my first student summit, I enjoyed getting to meet new people knowing I would be with most of them for the next few years, and getting to learn

more about the program I had been accepted into. • I’m going to miss the love and support from Paula the most. • I will miss the free college and support of Paula. My favorite memory would be freeranging at the disc gulf course in Gus’s car at my first-ever summit. • I will miss my friends and all the laughs we had during core time. I also am going to miss skipping class with my friends. • I’ll always miss having Paula there to give me snacks and listen to me cry about all my life crises. No matter the situation, she was always there to help me find me way out of whatever trouble I found myself in. Plus she always had the best snacks. s

Gift ideas for high school grads High school graduation is a significant milestone in the lives of teenagers. The moment a teenager receives a high school diploma marks the culmination of years of hard work, and many parents and extended family members reward that hard work with gifts. The transition from high school student to college student or working professional is significant, and various items can help make that transition go as smoothly as possible. • Travel gear: Whether it’s utilized during road trips with roommates or on those handful of occasions when students come home on holiday breaks, travel gear can make for a useful gift for new high school graduates. A sturdy backpack/duffel bag combo can be ideal. It’s great for college students who might

not be ready for more expensive luggage, and it can be ideal for high school students taking gap years to do some overseas traveling before enrolling in college. • Coffee machine: A pot of fresh coffee can make late-night cram sessions or hours spent typing research papers into the wee hours of the morning more manageable. For students who will be living in crowded dorm rooms, opt for small coffee machines that don’t take up much space, such as those that are traditionally found inside hotel rooms. • Television: Parents want to imagine their collegebound teenagers spending hours holed up in the library. But college kids watch plenty of television, too, so a new television can make for a great gift that figures to get ample use. • Academic planner: Col-

lege course loads tend to be considerably more demanding than high school coursework. An academic planner can help new college students manage the rigors of their coursework by encouraging them to plan their days and weeks, ensuring no classes are missed and no assignments go unfinished. • Cash: Cash can make a great gift whether a grad is heading off to college or entering the workforce. Cash can help college students pay for their books and help those entering the workforce purchase a reliable car that will help them get around. Gifts for newly minted high school graduates can help them transition to the next phase of their lives, whether that will begin on a college campus or in the workforce.
