LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Rob Bechtloff R

OB BECHTLOFF spent 30 seasons as the head boys soccer coach at Central Regional High School, a position he stepped down from following the 2017 season. However Bechtloff did not go far as he assisted the Golden Eagles new head coach in order to make for a smooth transition and will do so again this coming season. During his tenure as head coach Central won more than 300 games and he is the winningest soccer coach in school history. That total includes three South Jersey Group III state titles and numerous divisional championships. His playing career was nothing short of spectacular. Rob was a standout on the powerhouse Brick teams of the late 1970’s and as a senior in 1978 he earned All-Shore, All-State and All-American honors. He is one of only three Green Dragon players to have his number retired (#8) and he was inducted into the Brick Wall of Fame in 2017. Bechtloff continued his education and soccer career at what was then Glassboro State College where he started for all four years and was a team captain as a senior. The accolades continued as he earned All-American honors, helped his team play in three Division III Final Fours and win the 1981 Division III National Championship. He was inducted into the Rowan University-Glassboro State College Hall of Fame in 2014. As a senior he was also vice president of the school’s Men’s Athletic Association. A Health and Physical Education major, he graduated from Glassboro in 1983 and later earned a master’s degree from New Jersey City University. He began teaching at Central in 1985 and is the Chairperson of the Physical Education and Health Department. Rob and his wife Patricia have identical twin daughters, Carly a sophomore at Clemson University and Taylor a sophomore at Villanova University.
