Electrolux Design Lab, established in 2003, is an annual global design competition open to undergraduate and graduate industrial design students who are invited to present innovative, daring ideas and solutions for home appliances. This year, Design Lab has invited everyone to design home appliances for the internet generation. The deadline will be May 30. For more information, please check their website. Naoto Fukasawa seems to have covered every single product category, and now he was invited to art directed a jewelry project "Koo-Fu." Koo-fu is a brand disseminated by Yamanashi Prefecture, the "Jewelry city." His work Sendai Mediatheque completed in 2001 is considered the representative of architecture of the new century. Also, the newly completed Tama Art University Library in Tokyo is definitely a master piece. The exhibition "Tokyo Ito: Generative Order" is launched at Taipei, Taiwan right now. geisai art fairs. Geisai is an art event held by Kaikai Kiki. The artistled art enterprise Kaikai Kiki was founded by Takashi Murakami in 2001, and evolved from its predecessor, the Hiropon Factory. Its goals as an enterprise include the production and promotion of artwork, the management and support of select artists, general management of events and projects, and the production and promotion of merchandise. There will be 2 Geisai fairs in 2008 at this point, Geisai Museum 2 in May, and Geisai 11 in September. They will be held at Tokyo Big Sight. colombo is back. Recently, retro and vintage design is getting hot! We've seen lots of retro furniture, 60's style interior, and even black vinyl record becomes popular again. And here are two stylish home phone designed by Chauhan Studio - the Colombo One and Colombo Two. The designs, as the name suggest, are inspired by the work of one of Italy's most influential product designer, Joe Colombo. From the Universale, the first chair to be moulded from one material, to the all-in-one Boby Trolley, everything Colombo created was intended for "the environment of the future". Where do you live? Any place in the city you recommend to visit? I live in the south part – Södermalm – So does Mårten. Ola lives in the centre of the city. There are many, many places worth a visit. And this space is to small for it. But there are quite a few good restaurants in this city, as Swedish cooks regularely have very good results in the world cooking championships. So if you visit our city, enjoy our food. / Do you cook? What is your comfort food? Of course I cook. And I like it a lot. I prefer a very fresh food. I love fish/seafood. And anything that grows. / Recently, Scandinavia style is very popular in the world. What is Scandinavia style to you? Do you consider yourself as Scandinavia style? Not myself, but everyone else seems to thinks so. I believe it is more difficult than ever to pinpoint it. I leave it to others to define. /

My place is more or less completely white. Except for this chair. Which is quite funny. Very few people in this

FREITAG is a bags and accessories brand of Zurich, which was founded in 1993 by two brothers, Markus and Denial Freitag. The Freitags are originally graphic designers. They were looking for functional, waterproof, and robust bags for their designs one day, and came out genius ideas of using old truck tarpaulin, used cycle inner tubes and seat belts to sew strong and durable bags. This is how the ďŹ rst FREITAG bag was made. Unconsciously, Freitag brothers created a great brand image on functionality, design, durability, and quality. Now as then, FREITAG bags are produced directly adjacent to the same transit route where they are designed, cut to size and packaged.

Each FREITAG is an individual item. Because the used materials are utilized, these bags always appear in different print design and colors. Freitag brothers have designed more than 40 models and their factory produce 150000 units per year. Here is the interesting process of making FREITAG: 1. When truck tarpaulins arrive at factory, they are spread out on the ground and cut up into sections. 2. The cut tarpaulins are stored on the shelves according to colors. 3. Wash up! 4. The individual sections of the bag models are cut by hand. 5. Ship them to afďŹ liated companies to do stitching job. (FREITAG has been working in cooperation with a workshop staffed by disabled people since 1996.) 6. After bags are done from stitching companies, they go through strict quality- control-check and then are photographed one by one. 7. Products delivered from Zurich to 350 shops world wide.

Another interesting way to make your FREITAG bag is provided on their website. It is called F-cut tool. There are 12 kinds of tarpaulins you can choose for your bag. You can choose whichever you want and what angle you want it to be cut. It’s fun and easy to create your own FREITAG bag. However, they’ve noted, you are responsible for the result. WYCIWYG (What you cut is what you get.) That is why you are also able to choose a label with “F. your fault®” instead a normal “FREITAG” one.

The essence of FREITAG is eco-awareness and recycling. Not only they use truck tarpaulin but also in their ofďŹ ces, FREITAG makes use of things that have been abandoned. Their container-like ofďŹ ces are stacked up on a former cane track, and the furniture is from industrial furniture of former factory that used to produce cogwheel. Nowadays, FREITAG recycles 200 tones of truck tarpaulins, 75000 bicycle inner tubes, and 25000 car seat-belts per year. They are making products to teach people how design can make a better earth.

I love to cook and collect recipes, but I never exactly follow the steps. For me, cooking should be playful. Remember, always put your imagination to someone’s recipe and bring it to your vision. 1/2 recipe rules are easy and healthy. Modern people are always in a hurry, and I believe, with 1/2 effort, 1/2 steps, 1/2 fat, 1/2 time of cooking, will also bring you to a lovely cooking experience and healthier dish. That’s why I called this chapter “1/2 Recipe”. Cooking is art. Let’s play.

This is a Japanese home dish. My first time tried this was long time ago, however, I still remembered the smell and taste of tender beef and soft potato. The origin recipe is included onion, potato, carrot, and beef. For me, potato and beef are the key, the rest of ingredients you can wing it. p.s. Mirin is a common sauce, and widely be used in lots of Japanese dishes. Such as Teriyaki, Sukiyaki or stew, Mirin has alcohol to eliminate raw meat and fish smell.
what you need... Boneless sirloin 250g, sliced 1 potato 1 small fresh tomato 1 fresh corn (cut into 4 chunks) 1 onion (cut into 1 1/2 inch square) 1T oil 3T white wine 3T Mirin (Japanese flavor wine) 5T soy sauce

how you do... 1. SautĂŠ onion with oil for 2 minutes. 2. Add sirloin and cook until medium well. 3. Add white wine, mirin, and soy sauce. 4. Add the rest of ingredients, and cook for 20 minutes.
