has undergone testing by an independent laboratory such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Intertek (ETL) or Canadian Standards Association (CSA). • Inspect your tools’ cords and plugs for damage. Any damaged products should not be used and instead should be taken to an authorized repair center or thrown away. As you work, re_member to always hold power tools by the insulated gripping surface to avoid electrical shock. Lastly, if your work requires a generator, make sure your generator is properly grounded and well ventilated. Also, make sure you remind kids of these important safety tips: • If they see a downed power line, they should stay away from it and report it to an adult. • Do not play with toys, especially kites and remote control airplanes, or climb trees near power lines. • Go inside right away if they hear thunder or see lightning-do not seek shelter under trees. • Do not play around neighborhood electrical substations or boxes. Do not use an electrical tool that is wet or close to water. • To further reduce your risk, install ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) in your outdoor outlets and in the garage to help prevent electrocutions and electrical shock injuries. Lawn Mower Tune-ups Are A Wise Investment (NAPSA)-Investing 30 minutes on a spring tune-up for your lawn mower can pay dividends for years to come. Those who don’t perform this important basic maintenance before the weather turns warmer often end up putting their equipment at risk. The good news is that the engine experts at Briggs & Stratton are making it easier than ever before to get your lawn mower ready for spring-from tune-up kits to oil evacuation kits to a free oil recycling solution, you can keep your lawn mower running smoothly. An engine tune-up for your push mower takes only 30 minutes or less. Riding mower engines may require an oil filter or
fuel filter, which could add five to 10 minutes to the job. A Spring Tune-up Is Key “Homeowners simply want their lawn mower to start when they need it for that first cut of spring and a simple tune-up can make the difference between a hassle-free start and frustrating trips for service,” said Synoilva Shaw with the Briggs & Stratton Engine Marketing department. “While the source of most starting problems is old gasoline-which goes stale in about 30 days-a tune-up can help extend the life of the mower engine and keep it running at peak performance.” Prepping A Push Mower A tune-up for a push
mower engine can reduce engine emissions by as much as 30 percent and involves just four easy steps: 1. Changing the mower oil 2. Replacing the air filter 3. Replacing the spark plug 4. Adding fuel preservative to the gasoline. Step-by-step video instructions are available online at www. briggsandstratton.com. Tune-up Kits A basic push mower engine tune-up kit costs under $12.99 and includes an air filter, spark plug, bottle of oil and a pouch of fuel treatment and stabilizer. A tractor tune-up kit costs under $32.99 and includes the same as a push mower kit with the addition of
a fuel and/or oil filter. The kits are available online at the company’s website or at authorized dealers and home improvement stores. Oil Evacuation Kits Two options are available for oil evacuation kits-one that removes oil only and another that removes both oil and fuel. These kits help eliminate the need for consumers to tip the mower to drain the oil during a tune-up, making it easier to change the oil and reducing the possibility of an oil spill in the garage or driveway. Oil evacuation kits cost between $23 and $31 and are available online at www. briggsandstratton.com or at authorized dealers and home improvement
stores. Disposing Of Used Oil Participating Briggs & Stratton dealers nationwide make recycling oil easy and have recycled more than 200,000 gallons of used engine oil to date. Simply drop off your used oil in a closed container and let your dealer take care of the rest. Look Before You Pump Certain gasoline blends should never be used in lawn mower engines and other small gas engines. Fuel blends containing more than 10 percent ethanol, like E15 or E85 gasoline, or gasoline containing other alcohol blends can damage small gas engines. Repairs required be-
cause of the use of these unapproved gasoline blends are not covered under the manufacturer’s engine warranty. Look for the “Look Before You Pump” warning logo on new models or find more information from the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute at www.opei.org.
Giving your lawn mower a tune-up each spring can help extend the life of its engine and keep it running at peak performance longer.

work done. There’s a new computer application, or app, designed to enable employees to ask for help, get answers to questions, and share information through real-time online messaging, social posts and more. The app’s designer believes this will help to reduce what it calls the “friction” between workers by changing the way IT interacts with users. It also believes that using a social media approach to identifying and describing problems and requesting assistance can lead to greater productivity and satisfaction on the part of employees. According to a recent survey sponsored by the maker of the app, BMC Software, 85 percent of those surveyed have a negative opinion about the time it takes to get a response from their IT de_partment, 82 percent have a negative opinion about the time it takes to get their problem re_solved, and 87 percent of employees believe all this has a negative impact on productivity. The app that it believes can change these attitudes is called MyIT 2.0. It is designed to give employees the power to quickly solve routine technical prob-
lems, eliminate frustrating forms, crowdsource answers and information, and visually navigate resources in any organization. It’s hoped that all this can help workers arrive at a resolution sooner, promote a more satisfying experience, and cut down on “friction” between employees and IT_workers. There are two other new products from the same manufacturer that are also intended to enhance productivity. Like the first, the other two are created to improve employees’ access to problem solving. One, called Remedyforce, was created to help a business deliver a range of services, from a simple help desk function to transformational digital business services using a fresh, Googlelike, mobile-user expe-
rience. It’s intended to provide what are considered “best practices” from a help desk perspective while minimizing costs. Because Remedyforce runs in the cloud, there’s no need to buy servers or manage complicated software. Instead, IT organizations are able to concentrate on bettering their processes and bringing value to the business they serve. A third product is designed to give employees a choice of apps through a familiar app store experience tailored to a particular business. Employees can individualize their work environments from the curated catalog of apps that their employer publishes in a privately labeled enterprise app store. The manufacturer believes that by mak-
ing an array of employer-approved apps available from the cloud, individual flexibility and productivity are enhanced. At the same time, since the IT unit still maintains supervision of business apps, it maintains control of the process and service standards when it comes to problem solving. Said Kia Behnia,
chief technology officer at BMC Software, “Our new products enable IT leaders to fundamentally transform the self-service experience by offering end users a powerful yet intuitive solution rooted in expectations created by Facebook and Twitter.” To learn more, visit www.bmc.com.

Throwing A ‘60s Dessert Party... Disney Style (NAPSA)-A party doesn’t have to deplete your monthly budget as long as you realize the purpose of entertaining is to have fun with friends. A dessert party is the perfect answer. Everyone loves des_ sert and, with only one course, the shopping is less expensive and you can often prepare the food beforehand. But what about the theme for the party? That leads us to an idea based on the Disney film “Saving Mr. Banks,” starring Tom Hanks and Emma
Thompson-a ‘60s Dessert Party! A little background. Walt Disney’s “Mary Poppins,” one of the world’s most beloved and enduring family films ever, was released in the mid-1960s, the setting for “Saving Mr. Banks,” which is now on Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD. The film tells the littleknown story of how Walt (Hanks) convinced author Pamela “P. L.” Travers (Thompson) to agree to a movie based on her best-selling book series. In many meetings, the
stubborn Travers insists Disney and his team stick to the exact details of her novels. Eventually, Walt makes her understand that despite taking some liberties, using imagination and creativity does achieve what Travers really wanted to say. Creativity, of course, went into duplicating the early to mid-’60s style and look of “Saving Mr. Banks,” a key component of which was food. To throw a classic ‘60s party, she recommends starting with “a pastel color scheme, Pyrex serving dishes, fun JellO molds, cheese and fruit platters, and cakes with lots of frosting. Popular desserts of the ‘60s are coconut or butter cakes, baked Alaska, soufflés, berry pies and pineapple upside-down cake.” One of Chris Oliver’s favorite dishes inspired by the ‘60s is cherry pie, but her special recipe is a timeless classic with ingredients that haven’t changed for more than a

Ms. Oliver’s primary focus was the writers’ room scenes where Walt had plentiful dessert fare wheeled in for breaks. Some of the most popular desserts from the ‘60s were featured. “The food was meant to reflect a time line for Mrs. Travers, who, at first, was entirely negative about everything Disney. When she first arrives in the room, we put out tons of premade desserts loaded with preservativesSno Balls, Twinkies, etc. (I was particularly proud of the red/green/orange Mickey Jell-O mold.) Time-saving Tips To Make Get-togethers More Fun (NAPSA)-Whether you’re throw_ing a game day party or hosting a family gathering, feeding a crowd can be simpler than you may realize. To help you save time and trouble, chef Jennifer Manning, Culinary Expert with the Kraft Kitchens, offers these easy tips and advice: “The key to saving time when hosting a get-together is organizing your menu and creating a timeline of your preparation steps,” says Manning. “Selecting recipes that can be prepared ahead of time is a huge time-saver for you and will allow you to relax and spend more time with your guests.” Entertaining Made Easy • Do the Math: Make
sure you have enough food to feed everyone. A good rule of thumb is three to four different kinds of appetizers for a party of 15. Plan to offer at least one to 11/2 servings of each appetizer to each guest. • Use a Slow Cooker: This dish can double as a serving and cooking device. Try Slow-Cooker Hearty Chili with ground beef, beans and cheese for a tasty and hearty winning dish. Best part? Use the leftovers as a topper for nachos to save time in the kitchen the next day. • Serve a Custom-Created Beverage: A pitcher of your favorite beverage creation will free you up from bartending duties. • Make-Ahead Spreads:
Hot spreads and creamy dips can be assembled, covered and refrigerated a day in advance. Bake them just before guests arrive so they’re hot out of the oven at party time. • Preprep: Buy precut veggies to lessen your chopping time. Celery, cauliflower, peppers and baby carrots can all be bought
the day before and simply laid out on a tray for easy dipping. • Save the Mess: Let sticky chicken wings fly off to Buffalo and instead enjoy a tangy, no-mess Buffalo Chicken Dip featuring PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese with a side of crackers or crudités. Much easier to make-and to clean up.
