Dam! It’s only temporary ... DePue was hoping for a more permanent fix By Terri Simon tsimon@bcrnews.com

DEPUE — Here we go again ... That’s clearly what many in DePue must be thinking, as the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) budged only a bit to give DePue a helping hand. On April 6, DePue Mayor Eric Bryant along with other DePue officials, as well as Sen. Sue

Rezin (R-Peru) and Rep. Andy Skoog (D-Peru), marched into Springfield in an attempt to convince the IDNR to allow DePue to construct a semi-permanent dam where Lake DePue meets the Illinois River in order to regulate and control water levels in the lake. That meeting in April followed another meeting which was held 10 months earlier, where the IDNR denied DePue’s request for that dam. U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-16th

District) arranged the meeting in April at the IDNR headquarters in Springfield, and Bryant was hopeful the hour-long presentation to the IDNR would result in a different decision by the agency. Bryant’s hopes drowned last week, when he learned the IDNR again denied DePue’s request. The state agency said the dam would have a negative impact on surrounding wetlands.

The IDNR did give DePue the OK to construct a temporary dam ... again, and the agency will allow DePue to use a barge as that dam, even though the IDNR had previously denied the barge concept, Bryant said. The village was also given an additional 15 days by the state to keep the dam in place, noting it can be put in place as early as July

PRINCETON — Since April 1971, Princeton’s Mobile Meals program has helped feed those who can’t prepare or who need help with their meals. Volunteers have donated their time to pick up a hot meal for these folks from the kitchen at Perry Memorial Hospital, along with a sack-type dinner bag, and taken it to shut-ins around the area. While that valuable service won’t change, the organization that supports the

PRINCETON — In 2010, there were just under 15,000 murders in the United States, reaffirming the barometer of violence in the country and striking a chord in every peacekeeper. Just under 33,000 people died in car accidents that same year, so seat belt laws were strengthened; greater vehicular framework and airbags were developed; the very formation of the roads were calculated to rightfully promote safety.
