Operating these vehicles is completely different from regular cars and two wheelers. So proper instruction and practice needs to be understood before hopping onto one. Helmets A young ATV rider should know how to strike a balance between the risks involved in extreme sports and amount of pleasure derivable from them. Safety measures like helmets are one such balancing factor that protect the drivers from possible head injuries as well as let them enjoy the ride at top speed. The helmet should bear a Standardised label preferably from ANSI(American National Standards Institute). Knowing the Terrain Thoroughly Amateurs normally love to venture out into unknown topographies for undisturbed fun and sports. Such form of unguided independence can be extremely dangerous. Hence it is advisable for a rider to gather as much information as possible about the trails from internet, maps, on foot survey and also by taking prior opinion of experienced off road vehicle riders. Information is always useful and there is no harm in learning as much as possible about the terrain. Preparedness in Advance Every ATV rider should be well prepared and must have strong nerves for this sport. Youngsters and first timers must take care that they are well trained and aware about all the fundamental ATV driving tips and tricks before boarding one. Pillion riders should be equally cautious and must put on all safety harnesses, helmets and other protective gears. Several training institutes offer hands on training by professional instructors. Hence, if possible, it is advisable to attend such a course. Furthermore, a driver must be physically competent to be able to handle a model. According to recent worldwide surveys on inexperienced drivers, it has been noted that these riders have a high average risk of injury than experienced riders. Double riding is not advisable for first timers. Readying the ATV Before the ride, a driver must ensure that the ATV is in a well-maintained condition by especially paying attention to the tyres, brakes and throttle. Uniform tyre inflation is mandatory to avoid control problems while riding and the brakes should stop the vehicle smoothly in a straight line. A rider must ensure that all the above points are followed properly before venturing out with a new ATV. Moreover, adventure sports off roaders are small making them tough to be visualised by larger vehicles. So bright headlights, reflectors, rear view mirrors and large brightly coloured flags must be placed on the ATV. When proper safety measures are in place, the ATV ride can become exhilarating.
