INTRODUCTION 26 potential letters were attending a competition to show their talent. There were 5 rounds in the competition and only 5 of them could survive in the end. During the competition, they had to keep developing and did lots of experiments to generate a wide range of ideas.

Exquisite Corpse was an important step for my Hybrid project. How I came up with the idea "Zip" on the tote bag was all because I did several times of Exquisite Corpse with a group of lovely classmates.

Initial Research This project was originally from the word symmetry. So the whole ideas of this work was based on the initial research and process of symmetry.
sacred geometry, saturation, semiotics, sentence, sepia, service design, showthrough, sign, silhouette, stock photography, structure, subverting, super-graphics, support, sustainability, symbols,
symmetry, synectics, system

Round 2
Initial Ideas of Symmetry My first idea of symmetry was to create a symbol-like typography. But after several times of tutorials and feed back, it seemed that there was still lots of space to improve and made it more clear and readable.

Round 3
Experiments In order to make it more clear to read, I started to think about the possible formats and tried different ways to present this typography.
FDA DESIGN FOR GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION A-Z PROJECT Katy suggested me to write a sentence down to see if it was readable. Apparently it took some time to read these symbol-like letters.
I tried this way to make it more clear - cut and fold the opposite side of the letter . It's could be a pop-up poster or interaction book.

Round 4
Symmetry Decode After the cut and fold experiment on paper, I thought about what if the opposite side of the letter could disappear automatically, then this symbol-like typography may become magic codes carrying some messages .

Round 4
Research and Development I wasn't quite satisfied with the first prototypes as they didn't show much concept of negative space, they were only labels with some holes on them. So I was back to the research step and tried to gave them more content and narrative.
Inspirations:
Nice design of wine labels The label on the behind bottble can be seen through the front bottle
Development:
Inspired by the classic negative space graphic, I recreated a new wine-glass one. It's like two people having good time chating with each other between a glass of wine.

Round 4
Development Paul encouraged me did not give up developing this ideas as they were nice photo shot. He suggested me to make bigger scale like wallpaper or poster. So I decided to apply these photos as a wallpaper and started to build a 3D model by cardboard. I call it a "Paper Zoo"

Round 1
Initial Idea At the beginning of this project, my chosen word was "window" instead of "Interaction" . Below was the initial idea of window.
The idea is to make an interactive illustration book with many windows on each pages. The windows will be different countries' windows. When you open each window, you will see different scene and culture of each country.

Round 2
Experiment So I started to make a simple prototype of my idea of window.
When I showed this prototype during the tutorial, I found that people were having fun playing with it. So I thought it could also be another idea for "Interaction"

Round 3
Development I started to think about what could I apply this format for. So I grabbed some magazines and started to cut the pages randomly, and then, ideas came! My idea is to re-edit an fashion magazine or catalogue to become an interactive ones, so readers can match the clothes by flipping directly on the them.

Round 4
Research To decide which brand should I work on, I did some research on the websites of these brand I was interested in: American Apparel, H&M, A&F. The reason why I chose these brands was because they were popular around the world, and I could easily get their catalogues to re-edit. Besides, there are several colours on each of their items, so that would be more suitable for me to apply my idea on.
