The American Temple Training Union From the desk of Reynardo Nikko Gutierrez, Soke Executive Vice President, ATTU

August 1, 2012 To all Staff, friends and Affiliates of ATTU, Last issue brought forth an amazing concept in our comeback issue of Martial arts news, reports worldwide, great “tell it like it is interview with Kaiso John Kovacs including an outstanding article by our very own Hanshi Stephen Kaufman, in The American MA Masters Magazine. Not excluding the commendable hard work our Editor and Founding Director of ATTU, Sha Poe Ryu Anthony G. Elam in putting this first comeback issue together. Job well done SIR! Thank you all for the support and contributions to our publication. The American Temple Training Union, ATTU, has met many challenges in the past few months especially in March when a devastating Tornado took its toll on the community in Kentucky and pretty much brought operations at headquarters to a screeching halt. So much so that relocation was an extreme necessity. Therefore Sha Poe Ryu Elam uprooted everything, family all and relocated from West Liberty to Morehead, an area where opportunities have afforded themselves for the benefit of the organization. Awesome! We have restructured our Staff line and I wish to personally welcome aboard all the new members in the organization and staff, Hanshi Stephen Kaufman our newest Associate Columnist, our new Vice President Professor Robert A. Zellner, who will be directly working with me in the organization. Sifu Steve Karselsky and GM John Wooten are also onboard. There are too many to mention by name but overall my sincere welcome and am looking forward in working closely with all of you.

Our Nutritionist Kerri Elizabeth Cawyer is no longer with us due to the demands of the launch of her website, new gym and personal fitness organization, Inside Out Fitness and Nutrition. We truly thank her for her service to our organization and we wish her the very best on her future endeavors and hope that she can return to us in the near future. She has become a great friend, contributor and will always remain a family member in our organization and still remains as my nutritionist. It was decided that in the passing of several of our fellow warriors, GM Wally Jay, GM Clark, Sijo Glover and others that a special issue will be published honoring these awesome contributors of the martial arts and brothers in the very near future. We are asking and welcome any contributions and assistance in getting this special project done. I will be reaching out to many of you for article s, photos, commentaries and the like very soon. We have selected our most recent loss, Grandmaster Roger Clark to be featured on the cover of this special issue. ATTU has also implemented a business plan to assist members who wish to make money with ATTU. Those of you who wish to know more please feel free to contact us. New programs are being spearheaded by staff to provide a large base service to all who are involved with ATTU. Anyone wishing to contribute articles, event flyers, announcement, Martial arts news etc are more than welcome to. Send them to me at my new email address SungJitsuRyu@yahoo.com or to our boss the Editor In Chief Sha Poe Ryu Elam at Shapoeryu@roadrunner.com . We are very interested in what is going on in our community and are willing to place your information in each of our publications. If you also care to provide a link or banner to your site please do so with a link back to ATTU, as a requirement. As always there will be challenges in every endeavor and we at ATTU are prepared to conquer all obstacles as we have done in the past. It is going to be a practice as well as my mission to address all of you, our family in each issue. We have your best interest in mind as in heart. It is my hope that this August issue provides you with enlightened information and a greater interest in our organization, The American Temple Training Union, ATTU On behalf of all members of the Executive staff we wish you all and your families’ safe travels for the remaining summer and hope that all continue in good health and many blessings. Sincerely, Reynardo “Nikko” Gutierrez, Soke Executive Vice President, ATTU SungJitsuRyu@yahoo.com 718.713.7149

Krystal Alexander ATTU ATTU IT IT Technician Technician Graphics Graphics Designer Designer // Artist Artist Personal Personal Assistant Assistant

08/01/2012

Hello everyone! My name is Krystal Alexander and I am a new addition to the ATTU staff. I’m originally from the flat lands of Cass City, Michigan but I moved to hilly Morehead, Kentucky to further my education in 2009. I graduated in 2009 from Cass City High School with honors and was in the top ten of my class. When I moved to Kentucky I attended Morehead State University for a year and a half majoring in Equine Science. However, I decided to redirect my education and switched to an art major. It was then that I went to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Online Division. I wanted to focus on my artistic talents and to push myself into that field. I studied photography and graphic design. When I was through there I started a job at Guardian Industries in Morehead, KY. There I started off as an operator on the floor and have worked my way up to a floor tech and fork lift driver. I was introduced to martial arts through a friend of mine in April of this year. There wasn’t really a purpose when I started but as I furthered myself I found I had more drive to learn. I was highly intrigued by all the different forms and how everything worked together. This wasn’t going to be as easy as I thought. I started training with him for a while then he introduced me to Sha Poe Ryu Elam. During our meeting he welcomed me to be a student and offered me a position at ATTU. We started working together both in the office and on Sha Soo Doo Jitsu Ryu. I’ve caught on quickly and am working my way aggressively through Sha Tay Ryu. There has been a lot of sweat and frustration worked out of me but I’ve loved every minute of it. I’ve taken up my spot on the ATTU team as IT Technician, Graphic Designer/Artist, and Personal Assistant. It’s been a busy start but a great add on to my schedule. I’ve already found myself growing in my talents as I work on photo edits, fliers, movies and lots more. I hope to further myself in leaps and bounds and to help the company excel. I already feel like family and I expect to keep that bond strong as we grow together.

And the Winner is! Words spoken at the event now being called the “Academy Awards of Martial Arts.” Action Martial Arts Magazines Hall of Fame, the world’s largest event of its kind with over 1400 dressed in their best. One must wonder what Master Goldberg, Publisher and Promoter of the event is thinking looking out in this vast sea of martial artists. How did it all start? Over forty nine years ago Alan Goldberg would set forth a path in Martial Arts that some of us could only dream of. Master Goldberg’s early training was in the art of Shotokan Karate. Having the honor of studying with such Famous Masters as Manard Miner and George Cofield. He would later on learn the traditional and non traditional arts of Five Animal Kung Fu As the 1970’s entered, Master Goldberg would meet a young Master that would take him on the path to where he is at today. That young Masters was Jason Lau. Sifu Lau is the disciple of famed Shaw Bros. stable Master Jiu Wan. Sifu Lau and Master Goldberg would form a student and Master bond that has lasted over 38 years. A friendship so close that they even spent five years living in a Shaolin Wing Chun temple with three other disciples (which he now holds the title of #1 Disciple of the Family.) Master Goldberg jokes of those days as saying, “Sifu Lau would wake up at 2:00 in the morning, telling his disciples it was time to train.” For Master Goldberg, it was like a dream. or sometimes woke up the next morning wonderi ng was it or wasn’t it. “I would have lived there longer with Sifu Lau, but I was due to get married soon and my wife did not agree with my continued plan of living in a temple.” Don’t know why not? When Sifu Lau left New York City in the early 80’ s, Master Goldberg was left with no one to train with. Sifu Lau suggested he train with the late Sifu Moy Yat of the Yip Man family. This would give Master Goldberg the opportunity to study Wing Chun under two different Sifus. Allowing him the chance to have a wellrounded education in the art. Master Goldberg Holds the #1 Tablet in the Moy Yat Family. Known for his longevity in the Art, Master Goldberg is a Pioneer of Wing Chun in the United States.

expand it as a business. “I have had opportunities to expand, but I am really not interested in having a larg e school because it loses some of the tradition and close family ties that he has built with his students. The tradition continues as three of his oldest disciples teach in different areas across the U.S.A. Other students include actor Joe Piscopo of Sat urday Night Live, Heavy -weight world champion Dimitrius “Oak tree” Edwards, who is notoriously known as the man who broke Mike Tyson’s ribs in a sparring match, World renown Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Richard Pearl. People associated with his Kung Fu Family i nclude Phil Morris from the Seinfeld show and Joe Vener ie from the Oldies group the Tokens (The Lion sleeps tonight) Master Goldberg is the holder of Black Belt Magazines “Kung Fu Instructor of the Year 200 4 “ and Holder of over 75 other hall of fame awards. He holds positions in many boards in major Martial Arts federations. He is a founding member of Martial Arts Grand Master International Council (MAGIC), a founding member of WorldBlackBelt along with, Chuck Norris and And of 2012 Is a boar d member with Arnold Scwartzennager And Dr, Goldman in the World Sports Hall of Fame. Publisher of Action Martial Arts Magazine, the largest free magazine in the U.S. today, he created one of the nations hottest martial arts fads such as The Action M artial Arts Magazine Collector Cards. Master Goldberg created Law Enforcement Survival System (LESS), which was the only self -defense course taught to the NYC Emergency Service Unit of the Police Department. Starred in Great Karate Inspirations in wh ich he represented the only person performing Kung Fu. He has an instructional video on Wing Chun produced by Yamazato Productions. , appearing in Rising Suns Production Martial Arts Masters ( 100 Most Famous in The USA ) , He was also one of the promoters and Vice President of 21 s t Century Warriors, which showcased some of the legendary martial artists of our time. This event saw the return of Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Royler Gracie, Orlando “The Warrior” Rivera, Dan “The Beast” Severn and others b attling it out on Pay -Per View. SHIDOSHI ROGER CLARK 1964 – 2012 R.I.P.

Article contributed by; Saiko Shihan Kirk "Farouk" Gibbs M.A.Ph.D. Director / YudanSila Bela Diri Close Quarters Defense Academy

SHIDOSHI ROGER CLARK As a Grandmaster in the field of Martial Arts, Roger Clark Sr.’s career spans over forty years of training. Growing up in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, NY, the stomping grounds for notorious gangs such as Pure Hell, Jolly Stompers, Tomahawks, etc…, it was quite inevitable for a young child to have great interest in knowing how to fight. Soon, Roger’s attention would be captured by the television series Mannix – starring Mike Connors. The series depicted a karate chopping, Judo throwing, private eye. He mirrored himself after a young Afro-American actor who was also featured in the television show for they were of equal age. Watching the young actor actively partake in karate lessons became cathartic for Roger. It sparked an unbelievable interest within. With the help of his older brother, he began to imitate and practice these moves. With much emulation after his now favorite young actor, Roger moved to the Flatbush area of Brooklyn where he began training formally under the tutelage of Pierre T Rene, Sensei, Founder of The Chinese Sho-To-Kan System whom he credits greatly. Due to his many capabilities on and off the mat – no Dojo Hopping – and his rigorous training, he began fighting in tournaments in the PEE WEE division by the age of fifteen and as a super junior champion, he became bored fighting guys his age and began testing the currents in adult Black belt light weight division. An indelible moment for Roger would be when on that Sunday he’d traveled with his instructor and Dojo to Baltimore, Maryland. There, he competed and captured his first Grand championship, all at the age of fifteen. At this time he had been the holder of the 3rd Ying Yee Urban UNDERBELT GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP. Nevertheless, this title he abandoned to begin competing as an adult. There, at sixteen, amongst the many, were his opponents, such as Freddy Lopez, Speedy Wilson, Kevin (LIL Ka) Thompson, Sam Roberts, Michael (lookup) Sledge, Jessie Harris, and Warrior Prince Katan. With an extreme passion for the Martial Arts, Roger Clark, Sensei, opened his first Dojo in 1982. With the faith of an optimist, he taught in hallways, backyards, basements, parks and even on rooftops. It never mattered where he taught. What mattered most was that he was doing it. Of the Privileged, Grandmaster Roger Clark, Sr. has been inducted into the United States professional Karate HDQTs Hall of Fame with the likes of Kushinda Lamar Thornton, Ron-master Breaker – JETER Prof. Byron SUPER B Miller, and Tommy Chen. Furthermore, The Central Florida Hall of Fame, as well as the Action Martial Arts magazine honored and awarded Roger with notables such as Abdul Aziz, Steve Beal, and Joseph (the Pit Bull) Collins. He appeared on cable television’s first karate program known as the Martial Arts Forum – Ch. J which was produced by John Burke. He was also seen on cable’s ON THE MATT, Ch. 68 with producer Ron Howard. Among the many accomplishments of Roger Clark, the finding of The Martial Arts Fight Drug & Alcohol program in 2007 was a major pivotal point in his life. By the year 2009, he’d join forces with his friend and partner – Shihan Jackie Drayton, to form what is now known as the GREATER ALLIANCE OF MARTIAL ARTS UNION. Together, they promote martial arts in numerous ways: NEW YORK CITY ANNUAL KUMITE CLASSIC TOURNAMENT – MARTIAL ARTS FIGHT AGAINST DRUG & ALCOHOL ABUSE PROGRAM – Seminars & Lectures are among the more well known. GRM Roger Clark Sr. serves as a professor of martial arts at the City University of New York Medgar Evers College; he travels between Brooklyn and Queens sharing his martial arts expertise with over five hundred students. In 2010 he was recognized by Borough President Marty Markowitz and honored with a citation for his outstanding community work. The Art of War: Using the Power of Heaven by Stephen F. Kaufman

Excerpt from Sun Tzu's The Art of War It is important for the warlord to manage all of his resources by maintaining personal control over them. He may delegate authority in certain respects but is still primarily responsible for his own welfare. It does not matter if there are many affairs to control or if there are few. He manages and controls his own destiny. All is controlled with ease or difficulty depending on his desire, and this will be determined by his understanding of the organization of Heaven. When all is in harmony, the army can withstand natural attacks and those that appear to be supernatural. This ability is maintained through correct administration and the proper management of men. When functioning in proper order, an army can make an enemy think that attacks are not what they appear to be. This is reinforced even further if the organization has had proper training and practice. All things that exist have a multitude of variations, some subtle and some not so subtle. With only limited tones in a musical scale and red, blue, and green on the palette, combinations of melodies and colors become infinite. The principles are the same when the warlord administers his court or applies methods to defeating an enemy. The possibilities are endless under Heaven. That is why each move must be carefully measured and considered. In battle, as everywhere else, combinations of natural and supernatural forces are infinite and cannot be comprehended with ease. The methods to be used are as unfathomable as the ideas that govern existence, and when applied with full force and authority they cannot be stopped. When the warlord is skilled in the ways of war, his attacks are thorough and he is relentless until the goal is achieved. Heaven sees the meaning in his desires and will Itself insist that he attain his goals. For more info on the author and to order books, visit: http://www.hanshi.com

1 –Intuitive Knowingness (excerpt from Self -Revealization Acceptance ©) Intuition is that “thing,” or feeling that sends messages to you, presumably from your inner self, which you should pay attention to, but usually do not because of a fundamental lac k of trust in your self —or worse, a hidden desire to fail. The value of intuition is overlooked for the very fact that it is not trusted . It should not be hard; therefore, to understand that when we want to do something and find that we might have to make sacrifices we sometimes think it would be better left alone and forgotten about. And so we go on our merry way ignoring the clear -cut signals that would make our desire easy to accomplish. This is the greatest mistake we can ever make—not to trust ourse lves—for whatever reason. Why we don’t trust ourselves is something we have to consider. Intuitive knowingness, or intuition, is the inner urge to do something, true, but you don’t know if it makes sense because you may not really understand what you are trying to attain or experience. Intuition gives you a definitive “yes” or “no” answer. When intuition makes itself evident it is the voice of the Infinite, the Spirit of the Thing Itself of your hidden desire expressing Its own desire for expression thr ough you. It is the acceptance of this expression of being that is related to the idea about the Faith OF something—the very something that you want to do because that is exactly who and what you are. If you feel it is right to do something, and the voice in your heart and mind agrees then it is a distinct indication to heed your own counsel. When you sense the need for action you must proceed and accept it as an indication for you to experience your right to live in joy and freedom . If you feel it is no t the right time to take action, which is intuitive as well, or the right circumstance, or possibly the wrong idea, you should forego the action. This is real possibility and entirely understandable. Intuition never lets you down because it is the voice of the Spirit of the Thing Itself expressing Its desire through you, as you, and for you. This is why no one can ever say they have no purpose in life. Regardless of the obstacles you may think you have, tangible results are always directly in front of you. You only have to accept something as an expression of your life by the knowingness of I AM, I HAVE, or I WILL TO HAVE . Many people feel they have no purpose in life. Even when purpose becomes evident through the intuitive faculty they still do not accep t glory, preferring instead to wonder about what might have been and why nothing good happens for them. The truth is that they are lazy —wanting something to happen without their acceptance of it as already done —and therefore they won’t do the required work . It does not matter what these people say they want —they have no heart to see it through, or for that matter, seeing anything through. What does matter is that you accept yourself for what you are and proceed to live your life with the Divine Right of joy and freedom permitting your purpose to express through you. By enabling the Spirit of the Thing Itself to reveal Itself you will always know your purpose in life regardless of how long it takes you to come to terms with it. Intuition tell s you exactly w hat your purpose is; it never stops, even if you tell yourself that your intuition is incorrect. Another idea will come, and another, and another, until you wake up and realize that something is demanding acceptance. Most people, though, prefer to remain m iserable and keep ignoring it. Webster defines intuition as “the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition of something without evident rational thought or inference .” “Without evident rational thought or inference” is the key and sug gests a higher state of consciousness. Although having is a natural state of being, your intuition must still be developed and trained in order for you to be comfortable with it at all times. The Spirit of the Thing Itself demands this if you are to receiv e the benefits of Its grace and it is much better to do this on a conscious level. Ignoring these signals causes your sense of self to shut down and to only appear during dire times. But, because you have not developed trust in your “self,” these signals w ill more than likely be disregarded as well. If you decide at a later time that you should have listened to your inner voice it i s usually too late and you may have already made the wrong decision. But as with all things, it can be rectified with the proper and correct Self-Revealization Acceptance. Reflect on the things that you intuitively felt you should have, or not have, done. Are the reasons you did not do these things realistic in terms of your not having done them? What was the result of not liste ning to your intuition? Who or what did you blame afterwards? Did you try to accomplish the thing desired after you rejected it? What was the result? These are important questions to ask yourself. Introspective examination of your motives will reveal anyth ing holding you back from expressing your life’s desires from an intuitive and tangible perspective.

Whatever it was that you did, or did not do, may have cost you more than necessary by your not listening to your intuition. Perhaps you felt the action you were taking was not in complete harmony with everyone involved. You may have feared the results such as really getting what you wanted. Perhaps you were worried about relationships with the people you were involved with. It is possible that you feared the result of your decision turning your life upside-down, bringing along with it, imaginary negative conditions. Would you do the same thing again? Why? Why not? You already have all the intuition you need, and all the intuition there is, but you have to accept it into your life with conviction and belief. Self-Revealization Acceptance helps you attain this reality. No matter how much you may want to do something, by ignoring intuition, you are bound to make the wrong decision. Think of the times that you have gotten angry with yourself for not paying attention to your intuitive knowingness. An instant Self-Revealization Acceptance for intuition could be, “I heed my intuition!” and “I am my intuition!” and “ I will intuit.” Acceptances of this type cer tainly work but it does not automatically mean you will be able to accept the result when it becomes apparent. You must train yourself to respond because of all the times in the past when you disregarded it. Discipline is needed to incorporate it into your life as a permanent factor of self -trust by building up a belief in your own sovereignty, your own Divine Perfection. Intuition must be understood along with acceptance of it and it is more than simply negating difficulties in the hope that you can change circumstances. Relentless investigation of motivations for failure should not be done. Not only is it difficult to do, but it can be frightening when you find out some of the answers, which you probably won’t like. Remember though, you were successful, nonetheless. However, it is far wiser to alleviate the reasons through negation of their causes and begin to refuse certain conditions in your life regardless of the apparent and therefore false painthat accompanies your decisions. Whatever your reasons, they must be understood as no longer being important and having no place in your life from this moment forward. Self-condemnation does nothing to enhance your new attitudes of lavishness, lotsness and limitlessness . Why do we tend to create situations for ourselves that can only result in pain, regardless of the manner in which we cover up the damage done to ourselves? Besides the unknowingness of our folly, there have to be identifiable causes that restrict us from healthy and happy living. They are ca lled arrogance, conceit and false pride. Webster defines “arrogance” as a feeling or an impression of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims. “Conceit” is an excessive appreciation of one’s own worth or virtue. “False pride,” also called “hubris”, is exaggerated pride or self-confidence. How many times have you expressed either or all three? There is no need to feel guilty for past mistakes, but if you do, those factors need to be worked out to bring more harmony into your life. Arrogant and conceited people are usually considered by others to be losers and fools, to use gentle words. The false pride attendant to their arrogance and conceit usually manifests in them falling, or getting knocked down in one form or anoth er. There is really no other way to put it, but have you ever noticed that people with “attitudes” are usually the one’s that should not have them—they really aren’t doing anything other than acting through impure selfishness. Purely selfish people, on the other hand, have no time for “attitudes” because they are too busy working to enhance their lives and the lives of others. Arrogance, conceit and false pride are a trait of weak -minded people, who always have something to say even though they have noth ing to say. Arrogance, conceit and false pride are three of the most harmful characteristics that can ever prevail in anyone’s life —male, female; young, old; each and every ethnic structure. The idiocy of falling into the trap of these three deadly attitud es is what causes all the strife and heartbreak that ever existed, or ever will exist, and no one is immune. These forms of lack, loss and limitation can be shut down with Self-Revealization Acceptance and they should be because the Spirit of the Thing Its elf will reveal ever more of anything through Its desire to express more of itself into an accepting vessel.

To be in your right mind go out of it —but don’t lose your house keys

Meditations on the Tao Te Ching to Empower Your Life By Stephen F. Kaufman

Excerpt from The Living Tao Poem 7 Death does not exist and only reveals nextness Wisdom does not permit the end of itself A man can only learn to move forward in any direction Not being concerned with what went He should not care for the rewards of the day Seeking only that which can enhance his own reality He does not consider the rewards of his work By not considering the results of his work They are perfect and cannot be made better When you strive to develop an aspect of yourself to the ultimate degree, you are still limited by your perception of what that level of beingness actually can be. It is not possible to understand the workings of the Universe because the Universe has Its own idea about Its own being. It does not concern Itself with Its own being. If it did, It would not be unending. In order to attain the highest level of All consciousness, a man must be concerned only with doing the best that can be done limited only by his mind and the acceptance of a higher truth of himself. This is called death of the past. Nextness is what happens after a man leaves his body, or, that which was behind him, not caring to carry it along to his next destination on earth or anywhere else. When nextness is reached, Allness is released according to the conventions a man uses in his own thinking through personal contemplation of the Spirit of the Thing Itself. All is accomplished because the Spirit of the Thing Itself is expressed to the level of the man’s ability to understand and accept Its profound gifts. These gifts are made manifest in the world as a result of a man’s work and desire to attain perfection. If a man is enlightened, he will see these things as something beyond what he could ever imagine. This must not be confused with objects of physical possession that can be touched and held. These are only things that in time will cease to be in the form they now possess. Imperfection exists only because man cannot identify the Spirit of the Thing Itself as the means of Heaven’s and man’s natural existence. Heaven and man must coincide with each other.

Currently I am finishing my degree in Criminal Justice, and teaching in Atlanta,Georgia, China's Internal Systems of Baguazhang, Five Fist of Hsing Yi, Chi Kung,Tai Chi exercises for health, Six Daoist Sounds, Chi healing, and more. I also teach the art of Wing Chun Kung Fu.

When I started practicing Baguazhang around ten years ago, I knew it would be a challenge after practicing Wing Chun for 20+ years at this time. I knew it was considered the hardest system to learn, and one of China's main three internal systems. The other systems are Tai Chi and Hsing Yi. The reason it is hard is that the kua's or forms are performed on both sides, right and left. My Sifu had me walking the circle when I first started practicing the Lung Hsin system or Dragon Heart System. I would walk for hours to integrate chi breathing with proper form. This went on for weeks and I could see improvement by starting out in the system like this. My Sifu told me this is the best way to learn Bagua, and it evolves you into a state of proper rooting and breathing as you walk the circle. There is more to walking the circle than meets the eye,as there are many different transitions occurring as you practice. Some are you must have your legs slightly bent to create rooting into the Earth as you walk. Also you must turn your waist inwards towards the circle as you walk and your spine should be straight. Proper chi breathing must be done as you walk the circle also. Hand positions are very important and the fingers should be spread , but not straining. The body should be relaxed ,and not tense. There are different stepping methods in Bagua, also. I prefer heel to toe walking as it develops deep rooting practice. Other methods are mud stepping or chicken stepping. When you first learn walking the circle,it is just the beginning of a very intricate system called Baguazhang. They say in China it takes ten years to learn this system, and I truly believe they are right.

In today's society it is becoming more and more evident that our personal and home safety is under a growing and escalating attack. Pepper spray and keys are widely used by many individuals for their personal safety. However, unless you know how to use these for self defense, they can serve as a false sense of security. They become like a gun locked away from children, just because you have one means nothing if you can't get to it when you need it. By; Alvaro Vasquez Letelier MARTIAL ARTS AND DISABILITY Prior to publicize the issue, it is important to acknowledge that is a mental disability: Well, according to the vision that has been given throughout the twentieth century was related to a condition or function is considered impaired with respect to the general standard of an individual or group. By contrast, vision-based human rights or social model introduces the study of the interaction between a person with disabilities and their environment, mainly the role of a society to define, causing or maintaining disability within that society, including activities or accessibility standards that favor the majority. It is also said that a person has a disability if you have a physically or mentally limited basic intellectual function from the mean or canceled altogether. Martial Arts main aim Integration and Socialization of each individual in this society, but even if you have some degree of disability either physical or mental, thus promoting equal opportunities for people with disabilities in the area of practice and promotion of the Martial Arts. Regular practice has tried to improve the situation of persons with disabilities and make their lives easier. The interest in the welfare and rights of people with disabilities is rooted in its founding principles, which are based on human rights, fundamental freedoms and equality of all human beings. Looking for this integration we have within our Taekwondo Academy a great person, a great practitioner of this art, dedicated and passionate, not to mention the other brand new black belt 1st Dan, he even devoted entirely to teaching within their means to the bottom straps with the same care as their peers.

In Martial Arts seeks to promote values, personal development, integrity, trust, and many other qualities of opportunity in which you work with people with disabilities, the effort on their part is much higher, hence the dedication they should reflect must be consistent with their skills, it is noble to see how psicomotris area increases, cognitive and intellectual, their development with other students and most importantly, each day they seek to be equal, be like everyone else and that the requirements are the same, that way even more integrated into society, as teachers and practitioners of martial arts have the duty and the need to create the best environment, encourage them to project the basic principles of the martial. Pathway to Consciousness and Ultimate Truth Wisdom comes when Knowledge is combined with Overstanding over Time. We am growing in God s wisdom everyday. We can look to our CREATOR to understand universal knowledge and inspirational truths that have remained constant throughout history. By studying the wisdom of the ages, we come to know ourselves more fully as human beings. By knowing ourselves more fully, we acquire the insights that will be required for all tomorrows..Our thoughts, emotions and physical dispensation originate from a source far greater than complex methodology. Consider that its possible to move beyond our current state of mind into a realm where time exits only as a prelude to kinetic creation .Our rate of vibration is directly proportional to not matter but your conscious DNA which is in a state of constant flux. Remember that Energy in its purest form had no origins but exists beyond the Time and Space Continuum. What humanity needs is a humane and progressive culture on Earth, where spiritualism and scientific development go hand in hand. A culture based on the principles of love, tolerance, brotherhood and a desire to grow, to move forward. Do we have any precedence for such a culture, such a society? That’s where ancient history comes into picture. In trying to expand our awareness to this multi--dimensional space in which we actually live, most of us are able to return to early learning, remembering how one, two, and three dimensions successful PEOPLE are motivated by purpose, and all of their activities are geared toward achieving that goal. The purpose must be one in which you can put all our creativeness. Our interest must be allconsuming. Lacking a powerful, positive purpose, an individual's life has no direction. Lethargy and inertia are bound to settle in. Love thy enemy. Or at least, have compassion for them. This is a vital challenge for our times. Our teachers are our path to knowledge and understanding, and at some point we all become teachers to each other. The teacher and the student share as we take our journey into the realm of the Martial art that we have chosen. As we seek the perfection of the way , we must not forget the past and those who have helped us to achieve what we have gained. Consciousness is the key to demonstration. It opens your mind to limitless possibilities. You do not merely affirm what you have, you affirm that you have the consciousness of being successful. Infinite Mind knows no limitation and manifests according to the law of consciousness. You are limited by your belief, but you are not limited by Principle. Your potentials are inexhaustible, but your consciousness is the determining factor. You have a little or a lot. The Infinite does not care and does not restrict. WE are surrounded by many beautiful things, most of which you take for granted or accept in a cursory sort of way. WE accept them without giving them any deep meaning. WE are apt to have that same attitude toward great truths. WE give lip service but miss the deep meaning that would revolutionize your life. Mind is all. God is the only power. God is love. WE could go on and on. WE know the commandments, the axioms and aphorisms of truth. WE can recite them by heart. However to prove these truths and live them makes a greater demand upon US. Understand how energy works,be aware of the energy you are drawing into yourself, of what you are manifesting with that energy, and what type of energy or vibrations you are contributing back into the energy supply for others for others to draw upon. If you're not progressing you're losing ground. So to get to the top or stay there you need to do two things: 1. We gotta keep learning 2. The second piece to the puzzle is to apply what you learn. continually educate ourselves. BEST REGARDS

I would like to address the issue concerning the use of titles such as Soke, Shodai, Grandmaster and others, as well as some other issues. It seems that there are many traditionalists who are offended by Americans using these terms. They would rather see the use of the title Soke dropped, and Americans use the title of Founder. They don't understand why Americans insist on using an Asian term. They are also complaining about 40 year old Grandmasters. The last time I heard so much whining and crying was from children in a daycare center, and even they didn't cry as much as some of these people who call themselves martial artists. I will begin with some facts that many may or may not know. First, I will address the issue of Americans using Japanese terms. This has been going on since the Japanese arts were brought to America. After all of these years, Americans still butcher the name Kara-Te. We pronounce it Ka Rotty. We also see it used in conjunction with the word "American". Schools call it American Karate. Is Karate American? Absolutely not, but people call it this anyway and it has been accepted as the norm. What about the Koreans? The Korean Yudo Association has changed its name to the Korean Judo Association. How dare those Koreans use a Japanese term (Judo). Isn't saying Korean Judo the same as saying American Karate? How about American Kenpo? Many American martial artists use the term dojo or dojang, yet no one complains about that. Many of the modern schools still teach Asian terminology, respect and discipline. So, this is okay, but once the word Soke comes into play, it's taboo. It was acceptable for Americans to use the term Sensei. Why is it okay for a 3rd Dan to be called Sensei, or a higher ranking Grandmaster to go by the title of Shidoshi, but not okay for the founder of a system to have the title of Soke? This does not make sense. As far as the title of Soke, Shodai or any other Asian term, why do Americans use it? Well, I am sure there are several reasons. Probably one reason is just because it sounds better than Founder. It is related more to the martial arts. I, myself, prefer the title Founder, but regardless, what difference does it make as long as the person has trained hard and earned the title. I cannot speak for everyone who carries the title of Soke, but I can honestly say that those I have met do not require anyone to call them by this title. Of course there are those who use the title of Soke to impress people which is not a good practice. Anyone who founds their own system is a Soke or Shodai, however, that does not mean they should go around calling themselves Soke. Maybe some of the old Masters such as Ueshiba, Kano, Shimabuku, Oyama and others never used the title of Soke, but nonetheless, all of these men were. As for 40 year old Grandmasters, let me shed some light on this subject. Bruce Lee was only in his early 30s when he passed away, yet he was and is still highly respected, yet he never earned a black belt. His art of Jeet Kune Do is still practiced today by many and Bruce Lee is still admired throughout the world. At age 31, Hwang Kee combined Soo Bahk Do / Tae-Kyon, Karate Formed out of books, with the Chinese T'ang method and developed Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan.

At age 40, Mas Oyama established his Kyokushinkai headquarters. Grandmaster Kang Uk Lee of Tang Soo Do was a 6th Dan at the age of 29 and by the time he was 40 received his 9th Dan. Ji, Han Jae of Sin Moo Hapkido studied with Choi, Yong Sool from 1953 until 1956, only three years before opening his own school, An Moo Kwan. In 1957, Ji held the rank of 3rd Dan in Yu Kwon Sool. Only six years from his beginning with Choi, Ji Han Jae claims to have founded Hapkido in 1959. And how dare a 22 year old with only a few years of study in Jiu-Jitsu found his own art and call it Judo. Jigoro Kano was born in 1860, received instruction in Jiu-Jitsu for the first time in 1877, and by 1882, he founded Judo. By the time Kano was 40, Judo had come to enjoy great popularity. At the age of 41 Taekwondo Grandmaster Haeng Ung Lee was promoted to 8th Dan. In 1967, at the age of 39, Sifu Tze Dschero Khan Chen Tao Tze was promoted in Taiwan to the rank of 10th Duan in Kou-Shu. He is the founder of the Chinese Kempo Association (1964) and Chan Shaolin Si Kempo Karate. Regarding martial artists who found their own systems, they are not doing anything that the Grandmasters and Masters of the past didn't do. If you look into the history of what people consider traditional martial arts, every art was founded by someone who trained in different arts before developing their own. Look at the art of Hankido. This combines Korean Hapkido with Japanese Aikido. Mas Oyama trained in Chabi (a combination of Kempo and JuJitsu), Shotokan and Goju-Ryu before developing his Kyokushinkai. This is true tradition. I laugh when so-called traditionalists make comments about newly founded systems. They don't seem to realize that at one time the art they are studying was also considered a new martial art. In closing, there are followers and there are leaders, however, a good leader must have been a follower at one time. Some people are just not leaders, but they should not slander those who are. If it weren't for leaders, we would not have arts such as Aikido, Judo, Kyokushinkai, Isshinryu, Tang Soo Do, and many other martial arts. So, why is it that only Asians can found their own style or system after only a few years of training, yet Americans with 20 years or more in the martial arts who develop their own system are looked down upon? Are Americans too stupid and unworthy? I don't think so. I do however think there are a lot of people out there who are close-minded about change and new ideas, and others who are jealous that they are not leaders. It is time for those who call themselves traditionalists to open their eyes and do some research, and maybe they will see how the martial arts grew to where they are today and be thankful for those people who took the chance to be leaders. I have recently received a letter from a group stating that martial arts organizations with mixed styles are just made up of individuals who could not make it in the real martial arts. What they are basically saying is that Hwang Kee, Morihei Ueshiba, Yong Sool Choi, Mas Oyama, Jigoro Kano, Tatsuo Shimabuku, as well as more modern martial artists such as Wally Jay, Bruce Lee, and many others who founded their own styles and systems could not make it in the real martial arts, or possibly these dinosaurs as they call themselves are just a bunch of followers who could not make it as leaders and they are jealous of those who do lead. If you are a follower, then follow, if you are a leader then lead, but one should not look down on others for having a different outlook on things. The world would never evolve and progress without those who take a chance.

KAPAP- Krav Panim el Panim - the art of Gaku Jutsu - Do Written by Avi Nardia KAPAP (Krav Panim el Panim -face to face combat) is martial art from Israel mostly considered as modern and reality based martial art. Those two meanings of KAPAP as a modern and reality based martial art has made certain confusion in the market lately. So let’s clarify it. The early days of KAPAP takes as back to old days in Israel (1930 and 1940) when it was a generic name for face to face / Hand to Hand combat. The name was used even before Israel was declared and established as an independent state in 1948. Until late ‘60s it was used as a generic name by different Israel security forces. The system was based on judo, Jiu jitsu which takes as back to the Japanese understanding of martial art with teachers such as Yehuda Markus, Gerson Kopler, Michel Horowitz and many others old time trainers and teachers. It is interesting that in Israel most of the old people would be more familiar with the term Kapap while the young generations would be more familiar with the name Krav Maga. Krav maga was one of many systems to born out of old days. On my return to Israel from far east where I was studying Asian martial arts for eight years I was asked by the army lieutenant colonel Harush Avi to create a form of Krav Maga for young recruiters as a part of preparation for military service. In the same time Israel top counter terrorism unit YAMAM have recruited me as a member of the unit and the trainer for the CQB and hand to hand program. My task was to rewrite and reprogram the old program and to incorporate new training methods. In this mission I teamed up with lieutenant Colonel Haim Peer who was well experienced in military and other security forces. The system was later recognized as reality based mostly for the idea that ” It is better to be student of reality than master of illusion “ . Most of the moves and training were connected and tested in reality based situations. In the same time the true idea and meaning of Kapap were missing. That was not Kapap we had in our minds. Kapap is system which consists of three aspects: traditional, sport and combative. A whole system could not operate without those three dimensions. It’s like a family tree. The tree with no roots falls easily down and brunches that fall off of the main tree dry and die quickly. For the last ten years Kapap is at the civilian market and we try monitoring the quality of it by denying 75% of students who apply for it. And even by having that filter we feel many times as getting completely wrong people.

In the old days student should have asked for admittance to the school. What we face nowadays in this modern life style is a massive advertisement and many attempts by students to get into the school and teachers who are ready to sell certificate even by e-mail without ever seeing the students just in order to build up a system. In Kapap we do it in the old days style. Our students need to ask for the admittance into the organization. They must regard us as teachers and we teach them as same as in the old days. Lately I start considering KAPAP more as a ZEN teaching. It could be since I spent many years practicing kendo in Japan which is very noble Zen swordsmanship. In this modern era the sword was changed by fire arms but the value of moral and ethic which should be passed to the students through the martial art is the same. The gun is modern archery. During the knife fight it is important to keep the right distance and to reach for the vital points of the opponent in order to win and in the same time keep him out of your safe zone. In order to solve the distance problem people have created the spears and bows and arrows. The gun could be seen as a small spear which is a bullet filled with black powder and explosion as a string power. And again… if the Zen was way of the archery there is no reason why the gun should also not be part of it. Once I started teaching surveillance I noticed that most of the people talk about gun disarming, but none of them has ever used a gun in life. It was a red alert light to me that so called master could not even take the magazine out of the gun or clear the malfunction of the gun. It was scary to see that those “masters” actually teach people. Only by merging the following three aspects you might get understanding and knowledge of the gun. Gun usage, gun detention and gun disarming are those three significant aspects that bring you to that level. By missing only one dimension of it you will fail in the reality. All those ideas took me more into the research of Asian way of fighting. In the old days a true master was not recognized as such by himself but by the others. Today people are self proclaimed grand masters. Therefore I want to emphasize the importance of ‘Gaku” , “ Jutsu ” and “ Do ” - the traditional way to teaching and learning martial arts.

Gaku means academic learning which occupy our mind. Jutsu is practice and studying of the actual technique in order to defeat the opponent. And the Do is the way, the spirit we all try to attain in our lives in order to gain the true knowledge of ourselves and the world. That’s the main idea of Kapap-always student sometimes teacher. That’s why the martial art teacher was also known as “Shinan – Jaku”. It means “pointing to the south” like a compass because in the Japanese tradition pointing to the north was considered bad luck. The teacher was considered to be a compass pointing to the right directions to his student. Those three aspects of learning martial art occupy mind body and spirit. Jutsu is something that’s the most basic and it is introduced first in the art for physical methods are the most basic, root methods of an art, but it’s not the most important goal. Training is followed by Gaku, which is a study of the historical and technical. There follows the philosophical and spiritual implications. A beginner will have no idea about the physical movements so he has to go through a lot of techniques first to integrate the movements into one’s own body. If the goal is purely for sport, winning contests, or for pure physical health or self-defense, it can stop here, and that’s fine for what it is. As the student improves his technique he has to realize that there’s some kind of technical underpinning. He needs to study and take his own initiative to read books and research into why the techniques are done a certain way. To some people this would seem like waste of time but knowing a bit about the history of kendo will enlighten a kendo competitor. Theoretical and historical knowledge adds to the physical capabilities of the student. Gaku and jutsu work hand in hand. Eventually every advanced student would come to the point of asking himself some deeper questions about meaning of the training and how does this activity fit into our lives and change us as human beings. Here we see the influence of the art on spirit. This is the Do! The most important part of the learning process. We see our lives being changed by the art into a positive direction and giving us larger perspectives. Without any concern for Do, budo training would be merely recognized as a system whose only purpose is beating up or killing someone else. It is not necessary to divide the three as you train. Jutsu is informed by Gaku, and both are enveloped by Do. While in the beginning gaining technical mastery is most important, as one progresses, Gaku and Jutsu also begin to take center stage, although Jutsu should never be neglected. In the end, a balance between the three is struck, where feedback loops move back and forth between the three categories, increasing the knowledge of all three.

Safety First – Safety Last

Introducing Instinctive Point Shooting Combat (IPSC), safety with firearms and handling firearms in the use of self defense and protection

Firearms Instruction by; Avi Nardia, NRA Certified Hand Gun Instructor, Shot Gun Instructor, Rifle Instructor and Safety Range Officer Introducing Instinctive Point Shooting Combat (IPSC), safety with firearms and handling firearms in the use of self defense and protection Point Shooting is the skill of quickly discharging a firearm (usually a hand-gun) with minimal or no use of the sights on the weapon. It is a method of shooting that relies on instinctive reactions and kinematics to engage close range targets. This shooting method is used in fast and dynamic situations when there is no time to use a gun-sight or in low light conditions. Point shooting does not rely on sights and instead places the gun below the line of sight, but still in the field of vision. Since the sights are not employed, the shooter focuses on the target. The point shooting method is often referred to as threat focused shooting. The purpose of Instinctive Point Shooting Combat Training (IPSC) is not to develop marksmanship or to develop competition skills. It is not for shooting holes in paper targets and it is not a skill for hunting small game. The purpose IPSC training is to enable you to quickly and effectively stop someone from making you a victim. IPSC trains people to survive life-threatening situations and trains you to react in a fraction of a second in order to defend your life and protect innocent people. It is a self-defense discipline. You cannot shoot another person on mere suspicion. The innocent citizen or police officer must wait until a predator or terrorist makes an overt act, putting the citizen in a situation where they must react to their actions. In a gunfight the aggressor has the advantage and the defender is a second or two behind them. Against this terrible disadvantage, the citizen must be able to overcome lost time with a combination of speed and accuracy.

IPSC shooting trains you to survive a gunfight, even when the aggressor has the advantage. We teach speed and accuracy in an armed encounter because you need to be the survivor. There are no rules in a gunfight, knife fight or street fight; there are only facts, which when understood, can give you a winning edge: Fact: Almost all gunfights, knife fights and assaults occur at distances of under three meters. Fact: Most gunfights and assaults are over in two to three seconds. Fact: A high percentage of gunfights and assaults occur in dim light or where sights are hardly visible. Fact: In a spontaneous life-threatening situation, the body undergoes changes that degrade our fine motor skills because our vision is focused exclusively on the threat. Conclusion: To win in a gunfight or to survive a life threatening assault requires great speed and accuracy; drawing and firing the gun at close range without the use of sights. This is Instinctive Point Shooting Combat.

Violence – recreational or otherwise – is a part of society, and in the new era of terrorism it knows no boundaries. Whether we like it or not, violence is going to be a feature of our lives for a long time to come. Rather than ignore it or hide from it, we must learn to handle it. The objective way to live with violence is to avoid it, deflect it or reduce its impact by being prepared for it. We do not get to choose the bad things that happen to us. A person’s natural instincts – which include spontaneous reaction to sudden attack – are formidable powers that usually ensure survival if they are harnessed correctly. In my experience there are two factors that interfere with our ability to defend ourselves: inappropriate equipment and inadequate training. These things have killed (and continue to kill) innocent people. After many years of involvement in personal security I have reached the conclusion that in order to harness the natural survival instincts of the human body, equipment and training must be kept as simple as possible. Attacks are sudden and without warning and a huge advantage during an attack is a concealed handgun capable of immediate action. Requiring no time-wasting, no two-handed loading operation or a frantic search for a cunningly hidden safety catch, it is available in a split second. It is a handgun that can be pulled, pointed and fired repeatedly with ease, as well as capable of being carried safely.

“A Calmer View on Today’s Martial Arts” “It is amazing what a small world our martial arts community can be at times. I would like to take this opportunity to formally introduce Master John Webster, our featured interviewee in this month’s issue. We have yet to meet but we have chatted a few times on the phone and in doing so I discovered that Master Webster and I traveled in many similar martial grounds and down some familiar roads. He also knows and trained with some of the practitioners I do and would not be surprised if we have crossed paths many years ago. This fine gentleman is one I am hoping to meet and train with in the very near future. I had the honor of making a pair of custom made tiger claw Karambits for him, which he truly enjoys incorporating into his training. I took the liberty to ask Master Webster the same questions as I did with Kaiso Kovacs just to see the different views on the same questions. Now let get to know a little more about Master John Webster”.

Interview conducted by Reynardo Nikko Gutierrez, Executive Vice President, ATTU

ATTU: 1) Once again it is an honor to finally interview you. What is your full name, rank, title, age and Martial art System, name of your Dojo and location? Master Webster: John Webster 5th Dan Master 57 TaeChiteRyu-Karatedo ATTU: 2) Tell us about your Martial Art style or system. Master Webster: “System was created by four of my fellow Martial Artist including myself. Stan Mc Ghee (Tae) John Webster (Chite) Al Castro (Ryu) William Mills (Karate do) Muta Ali Coney Island was the birth place Brooklyn, New York. The system included Taekwondo, Ketsugen, Shotokan and Kung Fu. Shihan Muta Ali was the Head Instructor”. ATTU: 3) Your views regarding Martial Arts today in comparison to Martial Arts of yesterye ar. Master Webster: “My view on today Martial Arts is the street fight is still the same as when I came up knives, guns and fists. But training has been watered down. There are more participants because of this. Black Belts were Elite back in the day. Today they are a reward of time in service or contractual agreements. There were no waivers when I trained or fought. You bled, you cried, you hurt. But you come back to class. This built strength in character. There is nothing like it. Boxing stayed t rue to the form. Black Belts were fast in my days. Stan McGhee, Derrick Williams, William Oliver, Miller Brothers, Abdul Mutakabbir, Sheldon Wilkens, Errol Bennett, Sugar Crosson, Felix Vasquez, Earl Woodbury, and my student Greg Duggins and Antoine Jones. But today’s fighters are Explosive, with the adding of protective gear. Black Belts are committing themselves to Kamikaze techniques that without equipment they would have to think again. I was one of the ones next to Lou Ferrer that wore a hockey mask. But a lot of people today have not experience pain. Experience a push to the face. A strike to the throat. So I would take old training in the street. There are too many Black Belts that are walked on, the schools are huge. Back in the days there would be a couple of students in a concrete basement. No contracts, no mats and no protective gear. We are here today”.

ATTU: 4) What is essentially important to you in the Martial arts? Master Webster: “What are essential in the martial arts are a student’s awareness, mental and spiritual knowledge and strengthening, students discovering who they are, their fears, their shortcomings and their weaknesses and how to overcome them”. ATTU: 5) Studying under various instructors in the martial arts is there one particular Sensei that stands out? Has that extra edge? Tell us about him or her. Master Webster: “I would not mention one but two. I cannot cheat myself. That’s like mentioning my mother without my father. I started in Isshinryu back in Freeport, L.I. in 1969 watching Green Hornet. I liked nunchakus. I also secretly followed my dear brother GM Ernest Hyman. (Nunchaku King). From there I ventured into Judo, very short stay. I felt like a mop, always getting thrown around and no respect. I did not understand the arts back then, what I wanted, I wanted now. I went into the military and my instructor in Korea, Park Chil Sung, Took me to a level I never knew I could reach. I trained 3 times a day, 7 days a week. I fought for the Army team and I have the greatest respect for this instructor. I fought over 20 tournaments in Korea and lost twice. Grandmaster Park was short but could kick a basketball rim with his foot. He was the head instructor over in Second Division. He got my legs and body into tip top shape. Build my confidence and taught me for FREE! My second Instructor took me higher in mental and spiritual awareness. Shihan Muta Ali. He introduced me to Karate tournaments. There I was rebuilt. I was losing in the beginning. I was a Ronin. I couldn't figure out why. Shihan Muta Ali would say “You fight the way you train, you are not using your hands, you’re sitting too deep in your stance, and you’re breathing too shallow. I stepped up and started winning. I have so much to thank these two that I can go on”.

ATTU: 6) Is there any one or series of essential elements that you were taught by this Sensei that you have incorporated into your style of teaching and your system?

Master Webster: “Before the separation of forms in tournaments, it was hard for me to place in Kata (Forms) Shotokan, Goju katas showed so much more power than Taekwondo Katas. So I mixed the strength, changed the flow, concentrated more on technique and kumite (fighting)”. ATTU: 7) Students come in all shapes and forms so to speak and there are some instructors who no longer accept walk-ins. Are you one of these instructors if so, what qualities do you look for in a prospective student? Master Webster: “Students come in all walks of life. I accept anyone and all. I took up martial arts for the art of nunchakus and to hurt someone. Through training I learned to use weapons and love that someone”. ATTU: 8) Your personal advice to someone seeking instruction in the Martial Arts. Master Webster: “In seeking a martial artist outside of my area, I have a list of good instructors for people. It’s hard for a person with no knowledge to judge an instructor. Word of mouth is good. But not always sound. They can visit the school, talk to the instructor. What you put into it, is what you will get out of it. Stay true to yourself not the instructor, he is only a tool. The work comes from you”.

ATTU: 9) Do you feel many instructors and dojos today are governed more by the dollar versus the essence of Budo and true martial arts instruction? Master Webster: “Absolutely! Contracts are a testament to this. Monthly fees are great. Tying a person in to a contract is not good, just my opinion. The student may have found an inadequate instructor and now is bond by contract. I rather teach a student through monthly fee and have the student bond to me thru love and proper training”. ATTU: 10) Some would say that Martial arts integrity is considered to be diminishing greatly due to what in your opinion? Master Webster: “Integrity comes from honestly. Getting punched and knocked on your butt. The dojo is a place to train for the things that can occur outside of your comfort zone. If you never experience the pains of fighting, you are being cheated. There is no love in War. There is no love in a fight. You fight the way you train. Respect comes from all”. ATTU: 11) Understanding Martial Arts as it is done today. What would you change if you were able to? Would you change anything? “I always take wisdom from the wise. Grandmaster Ronald Duncan said “There is no monopoly on the Sun; neither do anyone own the truth, so is the martial arts”. Martial arts is a way (budo) to keeping oneself aware of the now. This may come in different forms. A situation can be handled with different techniques. In movies, it’s the fanciest, in tournaments, it’s the one underneath the rules, and in the streets (realistic) it’s what works the fastest and most effective. “OLD SCHOOL Hit First, Hit Fast, Hit Hard”. I would not change anything of others and maintain what I do. “When you have a clean glass of water and a dirty glass of water, most will take of the clean glass. Then there are still those that want of the dirty glass”. People want fast a nd quick. The Martial Arts that I know and others reading this are of a LIFETIME! There are no quick fixes”.

ATTU: 12) Your definition of Integrity, Character, and Honor in a Martial Artist and Sensei. Master Webster: “They are refined thru hard work. A true warrior knows what it is to be rocked and survived. He then has great respect for himself and others. His character is built through his work, which carries outside the dojo. We like to think martial arts as two hours in the dojo, Saturdays and Sundays, tournaments etc…. But Integrity, Character and Honor carries everywhere in everything a martial artist does. Your words must be truth; your character must be upright and honest. You must place honor in all things you do. This makes you soft on the outside and hard on the inside, which displays strength. This is what I work hard on”. ATTU: 13) How would one like you be remembered when you are finally called by the Almighty and finally lay down your GI and Obi? Master Webster: “Lay down my Gi and Obi? I don't think of that day. I concentrate on being happy and positive. I concentrate on being good and helping others. I keep in prayer. But I pity the fool that upset my path. I have great love for all martial artists. I follow a great many of them”. Osu! 14) Master John Webster's final thoughts or commentary. “My final thought...martial arts is changing like all things. Some change for the good and some for the bad. In all things there is good and bad. This is displayed globally. Some call it Yin Yang, some good or bad, some hard and soft, but it creates harmony. It performs a balance. If the world was all good, you would not have to train for martial arts. There’ll be no need for weapons. I seek knowledge from everyone. The world today does not know martial arts. It seeks everything from the media, movies, DVD and books on the arts that are abundant. When I went thru the ranks, Kata was only learned from able and knowledgeable instructors. They were guarded, but to make a long story short, all masters and grandmasters have one thing in common. They physically perfected thru the essence of aging (TIME). Mental and Spiritual overrides the physical because now your techniques are more real. A young man can play... An older man must execute. The Martial Arts is an Art. There are many techniques for an attack. All I ask from all my fellow Martial Artists is to stay true to yourself and you will stay true to the Art.

M a s te r W e b s te r: Master Webster I would like to personally thank you taking the time out for this interview with us and also to thank you sir for your service to country and the service and contributions you provide to our martial arts community. On behalf of the American Temple Training Union’s Staff, family and Affiliates, we thank you. It is indeed an honor to know you sir”. OSU! Karate means empty hand joining kara and te it is used for a self defense but now it is played all over the world as a official game as a semi contact and a full contact so it is a popular sport by developing rules and regulations too so it also works as a bridge as it develops friendship between country and a people by a tournament or a game too yours faithfully Sunil Rakarmi NEPAL NATIONAL REFEREE KARATE
