EDITORIAL

THE MYTHICAL TÉNÉRÉ IS BACK

We are betting on the future

Yamaha Japan Engineering Department has entrusted us with the technical development and manufacturing of the cases for this emblematic model.

With a stabilized market and some indicators of improvement, our aim this year is to prepare projects and products that enable us to meet the next two or three years strongly. For this reason, at NADSL we are striving more than ever to create new products which, from this moment, will come onto the market with the purpose of maintaining our sustained growth of the last years. The new range of soft bags, an innovative collection in style and shapes; the restyling of the SH 37 and SH 46; all the comfort SHAD seats which will gradually be coming onto the market over the next two years until we have a complete range which will allow us to equip the most important models of motorbikes; and the new website, much more dynamic, interactive and up-to-date, will be the stimulus to give both our customers and ourselves the strength to overcome these times.

They came out successfully after being subjecting to the most extreme conditions, thus confirming their durability and strength. They challenge the irregularity of the terrain, accompanying this great adventure motorbike which the YAMAHA XT 1200Z Super Ténéré is, designed for long distances, urban journeys or extreme roads. The aluminium case kit is part of the adventure pack that the brand offers in the first limited edition with the motorbike. The new cases gain litres in capacity (29 litres left, 31.5 litres right) and width compared to their predecessors of the XT660 Ténéré, also manufactured by NADSL. In the development of the new and sophisticated case fitting system -now rotating- we started from scratch to adapt it to the configuration of the motorbike. A stainless metal guard protects them from the high exhaust temperatures.

Personally, I believe the motorbike and above all, the scooter have a bright future because of their mobility and low cost compared to its direct competitor, the automobile. Betting on the motorbike and the scooter has to lead us to great success in the short-term. Therefore, at SHAD we are making and will continue to make every necessary effort, whether human or financial, to maintain ourselves in this leading position we are in today.

It was during the month of April when our site had the most interactions. The number of fans is unstoppable, it has quadrupled from 70 in January to almost 280 in May. The majority profile of the person who logs on is a man or woman between 25 and 34 (56%). There are more male fans (63%) than women (32%). We are loved worldwide. Spain, Colombia and Italy take the first places, followed by the United States, Portugal, France and the UK. They also visit us in Argentina, Turkey or the United Arab Emirates. The cities with most fans are Barcelona, Madrid and Medellin (Colombia).

SUCCESS OF THE RIDE FOR LIFE The humanitarian route Ride for Life in North Africa was successfully completed last May. Yamaha was able to deliver five models of the Super Ténéré to the humanitarian organization Riders for Health with the purpose of contributing to the health personnel’s better mobility between isolated communities in the territory. The route, which left Paris on May 4, reached its destination, Marrakech, thirteen days later after passing through Toulouse, Lisbon and Madrid. Once again, this crossing proves that the cases provided by SHAD favourably overcome the trip’s inclemencies. Official picture of YAMAHA.

NEW WEB, NEW FEATURES

THE TOP CASES WHICH MADE HISTORY: SH 22 AND SH 39 What were our cases like fifteen years ago? The two models from our first collection which created sensation: the SH 22 and the SH 39. SH 22: triumph in Germany The first top case of the range which appeared. It was sold in Spain, France and, above all, triumphed in Germany. It marked the boom of the cases adaptable to many motorcycles on the market. It had capacity for one integral helmet. The colour of the cover, unlike the current one, was injected in the plastic. It was manufactured in four colours, black, red, gray and blue. With handgrip, the case had an inward curved front. A singularity of the case was these orange strokes of the adhesive sides with the caption top case and the capacity of the case.

Download our catalogue, find the nearest retail outlet or look for a fitting. You can already access it via internet. You will be surprised by our new web site www.shad.es: its new contents, graphics and advanced navigation, which simplifies the search process, and by its design, which is much more dynamic and up-to-date. The homepage is divided into several sections. “Products” offers the possibility to download our complete catalogue. A new section, “Scooter-Custom backrests” has been added. The search for fittings is greatly simplified by the inclusion of their respective photos. “Why SHAD” is a very innovative section. It gives six good reasons for choosing a SHAD case. In “Dealers” there is a very useful tool to find the nearest dealer selling our products. Enjoy it!

SH 22, the year 1997.

SH 39: sales leader Top case that was adapted to all types of motorcycles. Of great inner volume, incorporating a rack and safety lock. Very functional, it was a sales leader in the major European cities. The hard plastic finish made it very resistant to shocks. The adhesive on the sides were equal to 22 litres, but already incorporated in the capacity the name “SH”.

ON THE ROAD WITH KYMCO USA A group of KYMCO scooter riders traveled more than 1.500 miles through six states to attend Amerivespa, the popular rally of this motorcycle which took place in Texas in late May. A real voyage. They travelled a total of 1,500 miles through six states. From Spartanburg (Kymco headquarters in South Carolina) passing through Ohio (Columbus), Georgia, Alabama (Mobile), Louisiana (Baton Rouge) to Texas (Houston, Austin and San Antonio). Seven days

riding scooters, seven days talking about scooters, seven days of scooters according to the participants. You can see pictures of the route through the USA on our facebook page (www.facebook.com/shad)

“The SHAD was invaluable to me on our six day odyssey through the South. I was confident that my expensive camera gear would be kept safe inside the top case while we enjoyed some road side eats”, said the journalist Justin Dawes SHAD USA, the official supplier of cases for Kymco, equipped the Xciting 500 Ri and the new Dowton 2011 300i which travelled by road with the SH 45. A picture postcard route which shows you the real America. Red earth and green hills in South Carolina, peach tree groves and pine trees in Georgia, lush forests in southern Alabama, rural and coastal landscapes in Mississippi, mangrove swamps in Louisiana, and hills and ranchlands in Texas.

Among the participants, customers and the president of KYMCO USA, Eric Bondy, who described the trip as “an opportunity to combine business with pleasure and a good way to spend a weekend with the people you work with doing something you enjoy.” Also travelling along from the same company were Ming Shin Lee, vice president; Bruce Ramsey, vice president of operations; Joe Wofford, vice president of technical services; Steve Lazoff, sales director; Frank Yang, of the new

products development team; Rick Pawelka, marketing director; the photographer Robert Pandya, and the journalists Guido Ebert and Justin Dawes of Moto USA. “The Shad top cases we used on the Scoot 2 TX trip were very easy to mount, and surprisingly large and able to swallow an incredible amount of items. Another obvious benefit is the security it provides – lock your stuff up and walk away without worry. I’m now interested in mounting one on my motorcycle for every day use” said Guido Ebert. “The SHAD was invaluable to me on our six day odyssey through the South. I was confident that my expensive camera gear would be kept safe inside the top case while we enjoyed some road side eats. I would have had a hard time traveling without it, said Justin Dawes. “This trip was one of the best times I’ve ever had riding scooters, ” Bruce Ramsey said. “I had a blast. It was awesome. I don’t care about the rain. I don’t care about the hail. It was a fantastic experience. Nothing tragic happened to the riders, and mechanically everything was as good as I would expect from KYMCO.” Ramsey smiles “I have no doubt that we’ll do this again, we’re already talking about it.” SHAD is the supplier of top cases and fittings for the complete range of Kymco USA scooters since 2009.

SHAD STYLE, THE NEW RANGE OF COMFORT SEATS OF NADSL

TECHNICAL OFFICE

Designed to improve user comfort on medium and long trips.

NADSL Technical Office is responsible for the design and technical development of the top cases Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) BMW, Yamaha as well as the SHAD cases (including those manufactured in the Brazil and China headquarters).

With all the experience that supports us as the leading seats manufacturer for the major European brands of motorcycles and scooters, we are launching SHAD Style, our own range of seats. SHAD Style ensures user comfort on medium and long trips. Our company has turned its experience and advanced technology towards creating much more ergonomic seats than those in existence and adapted to the rider to provide maximum comfort.

This department is made up of a young and experienced team of six persons who are in charge of project development from conception (design, sketches) to the start of the manufacturing of the product. The technical development includes the viability study, 3D drawings, mechanical concepts, follow-up of the manufacture of molds and the industrialization of the product. All this is supervised by the Quality Department.

The new technology Bielastic Foam is crucial to overall comfort. The SHAD technical team has developed a double elasticity system in polyurethane foam with the users in mind (rider and passenger) to substantially improve their comfort. Thus, we have obtained a product of aggressive look and adapted to the motorcycle. Innovative design and selection of colours for the different models: Yamaha X-MAX, Yamaha X-MAX and Yamaha FAZER 600.

Shad News- Why did you start with sales online? Carlos Román- When Mundomoto.es started up in 2005, offers of internet sales were virtually zero. We wanted to make a web site as a sale portal created by and for internet, never a page designed as a display of a physical store. We offer a wide range of items for the biker and the motorbike to the whole country at a competitive price. SN- What are the advantages? C.R.- Reaching everywhere, every day of the year at any time of day. There are many clients who do not have a store nearby or do not have the flexibility of time to visit a shop. C.R.- After we had started up Mundomoto, we realized there was a part of the market who wanted a good product at a reasonable price without being of a particular brand. That is what we offer at Motofactory. SN- Are the staff assisted sales better than online sales? C.R.- Actually, the physical sale has the biggest

Carlos Roman, 36, a founding partner together with his brother Julio (40) and Francisco Nicasio (36) of Global de Productos Online, dedicated to the sale of motorbike accessories. This company in Seville (Spain) started out on the web as Mundomoto.es in 2005. A year later, Motofactory emerged, a network of stores of their own and franchises with eight staffed outlets in Spain. Currently serving over 15,000 customers and over 400,000 visits a year to its website.

advantage: the possibility of touching the product. In our sector, working with products with sizes, doing business physically is always preferred to doing business virtually. The best-selling product in traditional trade is the lowest selling one on the internet. SN- How do you see the present situation of the motorbike accessories market? C.R.- In spite of this not being a good moment, the figures reflect a changing trend from the sports motorbike to the touring motorbike and daily use. It is in this sector where your strength is greater with the top cases or soft bags. The opportunities lie in the user who needs the motorbike rather than as a luxury or a whim. SN- Any threats? C.R.- Prices. Believing that selling is only “breaking” prices. Customers demand service and professional advice. Those who lower the prices do not sell more, but they set a reference market price. SN- How do you see the SHAD product on the market?

of bags in general and particularly in fashion are all those related to GPS devices. SN- Are your franchises in expansion or are they suffering from the crisis? C.R.- Yes, we notice the crisis but our franchise model is the one that most minimizes risk and initial investment. We offer training and advice in real time and help with everything needed to start a business and get it to be profitable.

“We value foreign products more than our own. I think we should bet more on a Spanish brand like SHAD” SN- What are your goals in the three years ahead? C.R.- We currently have a website which is growing daily and a network of our own stores and franchised ones. It is not easy to forecast growth in these times, but within three years it would be good to have at least one Motofactory store in each Spanish autonomous community.

C.R.- I see it well positioned on the Spanish market. We notice that the manufacturer is interested in improving the daily life of its products and that this improvement is in the right direction. You may need a restyling of the side cases and an increase in the accessories such as inner bags, handle covers, etc. In Spain we have a handicap: we value foreign products more than our own. I think we should bet more on a Spanish brand like SHAD. SN- What kind of accessory is in fashion? C.R.- At present, a successful product is all kinds
