YOU Helped Three Pasadena Families Transition From Renters to Homeowners The owner is selling your home. Imagine that is the message you just received. What would you do? In the current housing market this is happening to too many families in the San Gabriel Valley. Raul and Norma have a family with 2 large dogs. Zoila and Rildo are about to welcome their first grandchild. Chong and Grace, now that their children are grown, are ready for the next phase of their lives. Then they discover their homes, that they have been renting for many years, are headed for the housing market. In Pasadena. They know they can never afford to buy them. This is the part of the story where you come in to help. Remember when we asked you to advocate for CalHome funds because they are used to help first-time homebuyers receive assistance in keeping homes affordable. Last month we asked you for support matching funds from Grifols. You came through! This support, and much more, is how Zoila, Rildo, Chong, Grace, Hannah, Jeremiah, Raul and Norma become homeowners. Thanks to you!

Chong, Grace, Hannah and Jeremiah Chong, Grace, their daughter Hannah and her husband Jeremiah now co-owners of the home Hannah moved into when she was only 2-years-old. "The coolest part about this is now Hannah owns her childhood home," said Chong. Thank you for giving this family the opportunity to pass down generational wealth and stability. Norma and Raul "My parents never dreamed they could own their own home, now they've done it- they have the American Dream right here," said Isabel, their second child. Thanks to you! This home means her sister, Julianna, can finish high school with her friends. Zoila and Rildo Being able to purchase their home and have their first grandchild grow up in the neighborhood they know and love has been a true blessing. "San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity is an organization that my family and I would like to continue volunteering with even after our program has ended," said Rildo. Thank you for giving Rildo and Zoila the foundation to experience their dream of homeownership as they welcome home the next generation of their family.

You Can Help More families Through an IRA Charitable Rollover and Save on Your Taxes! You can give any amount (up to a maximum of $100,000) per year from your IRA directly to San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity “SGV Habitat” without having to pay income taxes on the money. Gifts of any value $100,000 or less are eligible for this benefit and you can feel good knowing that you are making a difference at SGV Habitat. This popular gift option is commonly called the IRA Charitable Rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD for short.

I used to take my Required Minimum Distribution and then make monthly donations to SGV Habitat, but I learned that I can donate directly to SGV Habitat through an IRA Charitable Rollover, which is exempt from income taxes, so more of my money goes to help families! -Pat (pictured left volunteering) Why Consider Making an IRA Charitable Rollover to SGV Habitat? 1.Your donation will be put to use today, allowing you to see the impact you are making in the lives of families in need of safe and affordable housing. 2.Since the donation does not count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax. 3.Beginning in the year you turn 72, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution “RMD”. 4.You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions. Next Steps: Seek the advice of your financial or legal advisor. Ask your IRA administrator about making a direct transfer to San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity or have the administrator send a check from your account to us. To be tax free, the donation must go directly from your account to SVG Habitat without passing through your hands. It is critical to let us know of your gift because many popular retirement plan administrators assume no obligation to notify a charity of your designation. The administrator also will not monitor whether your gift designations are followed. Another way to maximize your IRA to help families in need of safe and affordable housing is to designate SGV Habitat as the beneficiary of all or a percentage of your IRA and it will pass to us tax-free after your lifetime. It is simple and free, just requiring that you contact your IRA administrator for a change-of-beneficiary form or download a form from your provider’s website.

To initiate your IRA Charitable Rollover contact Paul Van Ast, Donor Care Manager at 626-340-2280 or PaulV@SGVHabitat.org
